“You know what I mean…” She trailed off, thinking that Disney would never allow things to go further than PG, and she obviously didn’t think it would be appropriate for kids. Although what he said about people kissing…. It was true. People kissed and sometimes it didn’t mean anything. She would rather, however that it did. However, even Poppy had to admit kissing some frogs to get to the prince charming. The only problem was that she was getting just the frogs. “I don’t want to brag, but──” She finished the sentence with a shrug. “I love them── I love kids.” She just didn’t have any of her own yet. She always thought she would have the big house, the grand family and marry the perfect boy, but her plan seemed to have failed. “What’s your thing again? ──what do you teach.”

“Yeah, I do,” he acknowledged. He didn’t mean to ramble on, it was a force of habit, especially when he met new people. Aiden let out a laugh when he heard that Poppy loved children. It didn’t surprise him, she seemed like the type of person who were the muse for Disney princesses. “Kids are cute, but I think they’re cute from a distance,” he admitted. He never grew up around nieces of nephews. Bouncing between foster homes forced the boy to have distant relationships with the other children in the house. “I teach English at the high school. Nothing too crazy over here. Speaking of, I need to actually head to the printers to get some stuff ready for the next month. I’ll catch you around town Popcorn,” he smiled, unsure of the nickname he just gave the blonde.

Knuckles rapped upon the door before she poked her head through with a large smile pressed to her lips. “We’re going out for lunch.” She spoke expectantly, as if the decision had already been made, when in fact, her presence was a surprise — no call or forewarning. Frankly, she was in the area and had just walked in like she owned the place, which was perhaps why no one had attempted to stop her. “I’ve decided you’ve worked hard enough and I’m starving. But if you need anymore convincing, I’m willing to pay for your meal.” Of course, next time she’d be certain that they got hers because as much as she worked — money wasn’t any reason to be a social worker. “Come on, grab your jacket. It’s nippy out there.”

The first week back at the school and Aiden was dreading it. Of course, he was met with a bunch of students not wanting to listen or begging him to allow them to turn in their assignments late. Although Aiden wanted to be a pushover, he couldn’t, and he told his students that they would still be docked points for any late assignments with no valid excuse. Aiden didn’t want to be there as much as those students, but it was his job and he had already spent his winter break doing a bunch of nothing anyway. He was surprised to see Claire at his job, not even sure she figured out where he worked or his classroom, but nothing was surprising to him anymore. His own half-brother came knocking on his door two weeks ago. Anything seemed possible at this point.

“You really don’t have to pay for my meal, Claire. I am fully capable of paying for my own. I appreciate you dragging me off campus for once though. The teachers’ break room is starting to become boring the longer I work here,” he admitted, feeling like those four walls were going to close in on him. Aiden grabbed his jacket and followed the brunette out the door. “So, what are you thinking for lunch?”

Status: open to all @wilmingtonstarters Location: Mystique Boutique (Birdie’s store)

image

A week into 2020, and Birdie had never felt more exhausted. Now the only owner of the boutique, it’d been almost 2 weeks since they’d gotten the day off… and as much as they loved their shop, the smell of sage was getting old. They leaned against the front counter casually, flipping through an application that had been dropped off earlier absently, when the door chime caught Birdie’s attention. “Hey, good afternoon. Just stopping in, or looking for anything specific?”

Aiden had decided that 2020 would be the year that he became more open minded. The whole new year, new me philosophy was working it’s way when Aiden was strolling along a couple businesses and saw one that he had seen before, but never thought to go inside. As he plopped in, he was greeted by an unfamiliar face. His eyes quickly observed what there was to offer and everything seemed so unfamiliar to him. “I’m just stopping in,” he responded quickly. “What’s this store all about? I haven’t been in here before,” hoping that the store associate could help Aiden.

Claire couldn’t help but smile at the male when he almost immediately told her that he could pay for his own meal. She wouldn’t argue with him to pay for his food, that was for certain. “Well, I’m fine with getting it and then you can get it next time if that makes you feel better. But, if you want to split the bill down the middle, then I’m certainly okay with that too.” She clarified once more before peering over at him. At the mention of any thanks that came from him, the woman was quick to wave him off. “Don’t worry about it, babe. This is for me as much as it is for you.”

“I’m thinking that we can go get something spicy. I’m in the mood for some curry, but if you want something specific than let me know and we can go get that.” She smiled at him with a wiggle of her brow, hoping he still picked her choice because she took her meals quite seriously.

“Whatever works best for you,” Claire, he really didn’t mind whether she paid this time or if they split the bill. “I guess we’ll see if you ever want to get lunch with me again and then we can decide on what to do about the bill,” he teased. Based off a few impressions, Claire seemed like a lovely person and he was honestly glad to just get away from high school students and staff who were far older than him. Aiden didn’t know to respond when other girls called him babe, but he took it as a term of endearment and carried on. “Well, I guess we’re both doing each other a favor then.”

“Oh, curry, I haven’t had that in awhile. Are you thinking more like Thai or more like Indian? I’m okay either way, lady’s choice,” he acknowledged. “As long as I don’t got to sit on a toilet for hours, I’m down for whatever you want.”
