Poppy had her nose buried in her book of fabric samples as she walked through the streets of Wilmington. She knew the streets like the back of her hand, even if she had been away for a couple of years. She flipped the page of her book before a white laced sample flew over her head. “Oh,” she exclaimed, closing the book to follow the flying sample. “Sorry, sorry── have you seen a a piece of white fabric flowing around? I swear that I was just looking at it and now── poof, it disappeared.” She asked the first passerby.

Aiden was consumed with figuring out what the next chapter of his book would be. With his earphones in and music playing, Aiden was lost in thought before he caught something fly in the air. He didn’t think much of it and kept walking until he heard someone speak to him. “Oh, you’re okay. I think I just saw it fly past me,” he walked towards where he saw the fabric go. “Let me go get it for you,” he picked up his pace and found the fabric. “Sorry, I think it got a little dirty,” he pointed out.

Everything was ruined ─ she thought, but she didn’t say anything. Poppy couldn’t show a dirty sample to the bride. What would her client think of her? Besides, it was much under her quality standards. Yet, she couldn’t help but feel glad that someone was willing to help. “It’s okay,” she said, rubbing the fabric against her jeans before she carefully put inside an empty page in the book so it wouldn’t touch the others. “I will figure something out, but that was super kind of you.” She thanked with a shy smile. “I guess not all heroes wear capes, huh?” She joked a little bit.

Aiden nodded and laughed at her comment. “I do wear a cape, but you can’t see it because it’s invisible,” he joked. “What are all these little things for?” he questions, not even sure how to describe the piece he picked up. “Are they like soft paint chips or something?” Aiden was obliviously to so many things. He stuck his hands back in his pocket, mainly because he was still socially awkward.

“It looks like you’ve lost your memo then──” she giggled, scrunching up her nose, “no capes.” Poppy mimicked her best Edna Mode tone. She brought the book up to her chest after closing and she frowned her eyebrows together, still showing amusement in her expression. “They are fabric samples. For brides. When they have to pick what their dress shout be made off… I design wedding dresses.” She rambled several sentences before she explained how she should have from the very first time. “But soft paint chips? I guess that’s a first for that one. I wouldn’t even say what is that.”

Aiden laughed at the reference, recalling watching that movie during his childhood. “That reminds me that I should definitely watch The Incredibles on Disney Plus. It’s honestly one of the best things that Disney has ever brought out besides High School Musical,” he joked. “Oh, fabric samples. That makes way more sense than soft paint chips. Excuse my ignorance,” he laughed. “Oh, that’s such a cool job though. Do you do the whole process? From drawing to sewing too?”

“Oh─woah─ I am honestly so offended that you didn’t say one of the princess. Let’s not forget that Vanellope Von Schweetz is the cutest princess ever.” For anyone who knew Poppy, it was probably not surprising that she loved Disney. She hadn’t gotten around to have her life together with as many stream as there was lately, but she would probably subscribe to Disney Plus. Poppy always though her work was indeed cool. She got to be part of one of the most important days in someone’s life and made them look good. It was not just a superficial thing, but once they felt good in their own skin, they could enjoy their party much more. Not to mention that she didn’t have a boring desk job. However, nobody ever told her that. She would always be encountered by questions like how she made enough money. “The process is don’t freak out, meet the bride, then freak out a little.” She laughed. “But seriously, I wouldn’t know how to explain. It is a weird flow and inspiration comes from everywhere. What about you?”

“Honestly, I haven’t seen Wreck It Ralph since it came out. I’ve been meaning to watch the sequel, but I haven’t had the time to do it quite yet.” What Aiden wouldn’t admit was that he was going to watch Frozen 2 without being forced to. He knew that his mom would have loved to come with him to the movie. He laughed at her comment. “If I get married, will you make me a nice bridal gown too?” he joked around, not even knowing the blonde’s name. “I’m and English teacher. I guess I have a different type of inspiration. I love teaching. I think it’s my purpose in life. I’m Aiden, by the way,” introducing himself quickly.

There weren’t many adults that would proudly say they watched Disney movies. People didn’t seem to understand that there were more important things then to look grown up ─ like just treating each other with kindness. Poppy always preferred to look like a child and be a nice person than the opposite. “Now’s your chance, with Disney plus and all…” She pointed out. “Make fun all you want, but I can make a kick-ass suit.” She literally sewed several for Sean for the past years. She had so many requests for them that she had to stop announcing the power couple was wearing her own name brand. “Poppy── like the flower.” Her name wasn’t hard, but usually entailed people asking her again to make sure. It was a cute story, really, if she thought about the poppies who grew in both her parents yards. “How old are your students?”

“I’m not even going to be ashamed to say this, but I’m excited Lizzie McGuire is making a return. I’m still rooting for my man, Gordo. Plus, I’ve always had a crush on Hilary, so that’s always a bonus,” he chuckled. “I promise you I’m not making fun. Oh shit, you make suits too? Well, I won’t be engaged anytime soon, but I might just hit you up when the time comes.” He nodded. “That’s a nice name. I haven’t met too many Poppies in my lifetime,” he acknowledged. “They range from fourteen to eighteen. I teach high school students. I sometimes wonder what it would be like to be a middle school teacher, but that’s when all the hormones are raging and puberty and that doesn’t sound like a fun time either.”

“But didn’t they hook up in the movie already? I rested my case there.” She gave a one-sided shrug and a nonchalant grin, thinking if she should hold such a long conversation about Disney shows. One would tell her to grow up, and that one would probably be her sister. “Normally I don’t, but call me a jack of all trades──” especially now that she had quite some free time in her hand that she didn’t know what to do with it. Poppy would hold onto anything that would keep her mind occupied. “Not to brag, but Poppies are one of the few flowers that grown on barren grounds.” She mentioned, picking from mind the stories her Pops told about the flower that grew after the war destruction. It wasn’t the reason why she was named after that flower, but it definitely felt cool when she heard about it ─ although, not a lot of people knew. “Mmmm, and preschoolers are like… full on sugar, so I guess you have to settle for what you get.”

“I mean he kissed her. I don’t think Disney would allow for them to be hooking up, but that is true. However, we don’t know if they’re still together. I mean people kiss and sometimes it might not mean anything for the other party,” he rebutted. “But you definitely are a jack of all trades. Who knows what other talents you might have up your sleeve. You’re probably a baby whisperer too or something. A baby cries, then it sees you, and it automatically cheers up,” he joked. “Oh wow, that’s actually a pretty cool fact. To be honest, I’m not very familiar with anything floral related, or even wedding dress related, as you could see,” he laughed. “Yeah, preschoolers are just cute, but extremely scary. They’re so fragile and small. I’m scared that I’ll just accidentally knock them all over or something.”

thepoppykingston:
“You know what I mean…” She trailed off, thinking that Disney would never allow things to go further than PG, and she obviously didn’t think it would be appropriate for kids. Although what he said about people kissing…. It was true. People kissed and sometimes it didn’t mean anything. She would rather, however that it did. However, even Poppy had to admit kissing some frogs to get to the prince charming. The only problem was that she was getting just the frogs. “I don’t want to brag, but──” She finished the sentence with a shrug. “I love them── I love kids.” She just didn’t have any of her own yet. She always thought she would have the big house, the grand family and marry the perfect boy, but her plan seemed to have failed. “What’s your thing again? ──what do you teach.”

“Yeah, I do,” he acknowledged. He didn’t mean to ramble on, it was a force of habit, especially when he met new people. Aiden let out a laugh when he heard that Poppy loved children. It didn’t surprise him, she seemed like the type of person who were the muse for Disney princesses. “Kids are cute, but I think they’re cute from a distance,” he admitted. He never grew up around nieces of nephews. Bouncing between foster homes forced the boy to have distant relationships with the other children in the house. “I teach English at the high school. Nothing too crazy over here. Speaking of, I need to actually head to the printers to get some stuff ready for the next month. I’ll catch you around town Popcorn,” he smiled, unsure of the nickname he just gave the blonde.
