YOU.
GET 'EM, BOYS
Okay, my turn to do some planeposting.
In the anime Kiniro Mosaic, the opening scenes show a plane landing at an airport.
This is a Boeing 747-400, and it's also very clearly a British Airways 747 (pic below by me).
Already we can date this to before 2020, because BA retired all their 747s in 2020 amidst COVID-19.
The very next shot is an arrivals board, and this is VERY VERY important, as it tells us a few things:
First, the airport is Heathrow, and the flight parked at Terminal 5 (real picture below for reference).
Next, we know that the flight had to be British Airways flight 6 from Tokyo Narita, and even better: the opening shot takes place before April 2011, as British Airways replaced their services to Tokyo with 777s in this month. (photo below is Jetphotos.com)
Now, back to the board. Let's take a look at the flights, and see what's real and what's not. The first thing I noticed is that the very top flight, BA54 from Johannesburg, IS the actual flight number, because I'm South African and I know the flight number of basically every international flight out of here. Here's the board again, showing only the flights.
I used Flightradar24 to analyse each flight number, and found that only five flight numbers and zero times were actually correct. Here's what the board is SUPPOSED to look like:
BA054 Johannesburg 07:25, wrong time
BA396 Brussels 17:05, not Chicago. Departure, not arrival
AB is Air Berlin, which suspended operations in 2018. Might have been a BA codeshare flight
BA315 Paris 14:35, not Madrid
BA439 Amsterdam 16:00, not Milan
BA641 Athens 17:25, not Amsterdam
BA082 Abuja 14:35, wrong time
BA319 Paris 16:35, wrong time
BA547 Rome 18:55, wrong time
BA583 Milan 09:35, not Johannesburg
AY5929 Stockholm 17:45, wrong time. Codeshare flight, actually BA779
BA941 Dusseldorf 16:55, not Copenhagen
BA846 Warsaw 07:35, not Berlin. Departure, not arrival
JL7844 -> IB 8917 Almeria to Madrid. Doesn't even fly to/from Heathrow. Might have been a BA codeshare flight in the past
BA893 Sofia 22:25, not Johannesburg. Again
BA475 Barcelona 16:30, STOP PUTTING JOHANNESBURG FFS
BA393 Brussels 11:05, not Frankfurt
BA879 Warsaw 10:10, not Zurich
CX7184 Berlin 22:45, not Paris. Codeshare flight, actually BA985
Finnair (AY), Japan Airlines (JL), Iberia (IB), Cathay Pacific (CX), and British Airways, as well as formerly Air Berlin (AB), are codeshare partners under the oneworld alliance.
I find it funny that they put Johannesburg in four times. Like, trust me, it's really not that great of a city to visit at all. Even IRL, there are only three daily flights between London and Johannesburg (two BA, one Virgin Atlantic), but back then, a fourth daily flight with South African Airways would have been operated.
Anyway, here's another shot of Heathrow.
Flight board inconsistencies aside, Kinmoza is a fantastic show, and I'm enjoying it a lot. I finished Season 1 and I'm starting S2 tomorrow, so I can't wait to see more!
Girls Band Cry had this shinkansen departure board for a total of 1 second and I couldn't resist checking it so
Nozomi 59: Mostly accurate. Nozomi 57 departs at 1812, Nozomi 59 usually departs much later around 1851.
Nozomi 83: Mostly accurate. The 1833 timeslot is usually used for a Hikari service.
Kodoma 753: 100% accurate.
Hikari 519: Partially accurate. Hikari 519 terminates at Okayama not Shin-Osaka and departs much earlier. The 1754 slot does terminate at Shin-Osaka.
Nozomi 85: Departs much later. A Kodoma service occupies the 1827 slot.
Nozomi 87: Departs exactly 1 hour later. the 1839 slot is used for a Shin-Osaka bound Nozomi service.
Note 1: Nozomi 85 and Nozomi 87 do not appear on the November 2022 timetable and only appear on the May 2023 timetable onwards. This may suggest that this photo would have been taken in December 2022 at the earliest. Note 2: Data from archived timetables 2111, 2211, 2304, 2311 and 2403.
