I have friends with whom I happily share the fanfics I wrote, and friends from whom I hide the fanfics I wrote. this doesn’t mean I don’t love or trust the friends who fell into the latter category, of course I still love them, it’s just that they’re normal and would be petrified if they ever read the shit I wrote. my hiding my ao3 from them is me protecting them

A creator making a ship canon doesn't mean jack shit.

Shipping and fandom have always thrived regardless of canon. If the canon ship does not interest me, I will prefer one that may be completely "nonsensical" but that I enjoy. I don't care about a character's canon relationship status or sexuality, if I don't like a canon ship, I won't ship it, plain and simple.

Shipping isn't always a depiction of a perfect relationship or someone's beliefs, sometimes it's just “it would be very fucked up/funny/interesting/hot if they hooked up” and there's nothing wrong with that.
