the writers seriously had viserys choose a girl younger than his daughter as his bride. they had him and his brother humiliate her. they had her conceive all her children through him martially raping her. they had him berate alicent right after his bastard grandson permanently disabled his son, who he interrogated instead of comfort. they had him neglect all his children. they had alicent, who was once a young girl he raped and humiliated, told aegon (who viserys also neglected) that she’d hope he’d be “half the king his father was”. they had her tell rhaenyra she loved viserys.

meanwhile book!alicent literally let her husband’s corpse rot and swell.

if you can’t see that the writers are making their female characters passive and removing any ambitions and aspirations they had in the books (except for rhaenyra, who is the only woman in house of the dragon who is allowed to flaunt her privilege or have ambitions), then idk dude.

The way I've seen people say shit like "well he's entitled to his Headcanon I guess." As they're talking about GrrM as he talks about HIS STORY! Like it's not a Headcanon my guy, it's the author telling you the facts. You don't need to like it, but that doesn't change the facts.

Always of the belief Alicent deserved the last word in the driftmark scene. Why on earth, given the context of that scene, should Rhaenyra have gotten to say "Now they see you as you are" unchallenged. As if Alicent is in the wrong. Because what is Alicent in that moment? A desperate mother, seeking retribution for the injustice of her son being permanently disabled without so much as an apology from his attackers? Alicent going 'oh woe is me, what have i become' in response plays into Rhaenyras hands. She should have matched her energy. It should have been the true beginning of a feud. Alicent should have been given the opportunity to remind Rhaenyra "I am what you made me"

When you think about it Euron Greyjoy is actually the villain of all time, GRRM's magnum opus. He opens his eyes to the world and decides sibling abuse is gonna be his thing for a while. He fucks his brother's wife, gets exiled for it, fucks off to god knows where. Then allegedly finds a dragon egg, tries to get a wizard to hatch it, gets mad, randomly throws it into the sea. Commits war crimes, captures warlocks, makes them cannibalize each other for shits and giggles. Steals a dragon horn. DEMOCRATICALLY GETS ELECTED KING. Raids a man's castle, ties up the man, sees his daughter who goes "hey my step mom and step siblings suck strip them naked and make them serve dinner to ur men like that" and he goes "ok." and then is like "hey that was fun im gonna like kinda marry you and make you my salt wife". But she will be his SALT wife (she actually wont he will literally CUT her tongue bcs he evil) bcs he literally thinks oh yes i will marry daenerys and then tame a dragon using my dragonhorn and conquer westeros on dragonback aegon-style. He gets fucked up on shade of the evening daily, sees hallucinations and visions and plans on summoning eldritch horrors. He is an edgy pirate with a ship called "silence" bcs he fucking tore out the tongues of his entire crew and the ship is painted red so it conceals the BLOOD. Martin went "i have enough morally grey antagonists" and then created euron fucking greyjoy.

I can't believe I wasted my nerves on Hotd. I can't express how disappointed I am in with the season enough. I do feel bad for the actors who were promised a role what they got was a bastardized version. The show doesn't deserve those actors.

Defenders of HOTD... who insist everything is happening logically and consistent with character and in-universe expectations... please imagine any of these events happening in early seasons GOT. Imagine Cat dressing up as a nun to meet Cersei in the sept to convince her to end the war because Robb and Joffrey were men who wanted violence but they were women who knew better and wanted peace... and then Cersei just letting Cat leave the city afterward to continue the war with her family. Imagine Robb gets crowned king but instead of going to war or making any real decisions he hesitates and thinks and only reacts to what people around him do or say, and when Lord Karstark betrays him somebody else decides to execute him, causing the Karstarks to abandon the Starks through no fault of Robb. Imagine Melisandre performs dark arts to kill an innocent in blood sacrifice but then a few episodes later she's advising Stannis about how war is bad because it kills innocents and he should meet with his brother to make peace. Like just imagine for a second that any of these happened. How could you continue to watch the show knowing just how illogical, inconsistent, and inconsequential the writing choices were?

Remember when we believed that there was no way Ryan Condall could mess up House of the Dragon because unlike D&D who didn’t have the entirety of the ASOIF book to direct, Fire and Blood was a complete book? Yet somehow, they managed to change so much to a point I would rather have D&D because at least they could copy and paste as long as they are given a full source

Later on after roasting every fucking one for no reason she trashes the entire party by stealing a horse and just riding into the forest (unrealistic that no one but Crizzie actually ran after her, isn't she the princess and HEIR?) and then gets stopped right on time before she rides STRAIGHT into the water.

Then they stay in the forest for the WHOLE night NO ONE LOOKS FOR THEM (again, unrealistic af) and in the meantime she KILLS A BOAR in a rageful frenzy. Rhae, girlie, 17yo to 17yo, HOW THE FUCK did you do that, teach me. The next day they return to the camp, the heavily pregnant Queen not only is seen standing while two men who are perfectly capable of walking refuse to give her a chair, she's also carrying the toddler who just turned 2, who does THE PRINCESS glare at first? So many options: dad who refused to send anyone after her for a whole 24 hours, Otto for being Otto. Answer: the toddler. She's having beef with a toddler.

Kinda mind blowing how she's carrying a boar's corpse when we know she went "boars scream like children" literally the day before. Did he indeed vomit his breakfast on her before? Is this Rhae's way of saying "this is what happens the next time you vomit on me you little shit" just... Fucked up sibling behavior? Cause... This is the only way I'm accepting how these specific parts of the episode were written.
