i have often found myself believing that coin and plutarch were oblivious to the feelings katniss had for peeta. that they were so busy orchestrating a rebellion that they must have missed the five o’clock special recapping the forcefield and beach scene.

but that just simply isn’t true.

they knew very well that their propaganda star cared so much for the boy that she needed to be sedated after having breakdown(s!) about his torture.

they knew that the mockingjay was so concerned about the boy that she would sacrifice her autonomy to preserve his life.

they knew.

they had seen the games. they saw the forcefield scene. the beach scene.

they knew just how much katniss everdeen was in love with peeta mellark.

they just simply didn’t care.

I feel like it shouldn't need to be said, but a relatively faithful adaptation of the source material is actually a very normal and reasonable thing for both an author and that author's fanbase to want. People can sneer about book purists all they want but it's the rare adaptation that surpasses the original, and HotD does not even come close.
