FFXIV Write | Day 24 | Bar

Spoilers: Dawntrail Level 93

Annie allowed themself to consume the events of the past few days with the liquor. The Rite of Succession was not how they intended to spend their time after The Final Days, and gallivanting around Tuliyollal completing futile jobs was not how they expected to spend The Rite of Succession. Tomorrow, they made for Worlar’s Echo, the home of the giants. Tonight, however, they recouped their strength before the coming feat. Annie was so enthralled they failed to notice the white-haired hyur that had taken his seat next to them.

“Well, fancy seeing you here, soldier,” he said, a cheeky smile spreading across his face.

“Hi,” their attention snapped back. “What’re you doing here so late?”

“I could ask you the very same.” He took another sip of his drink. Except, he didn’t need to ask them. He’s spent enough time with them to know why they were here. The two sat in an appreciated silence for a few moments, before Thancred began again. “Do you truly believe Wuk Lamat to be best suited for The Dawn Throne?”

Annie took a moment to respond, as they’d been pondering this question themself. They loved Wuk Lamat, but it would be a lie to say they hadn’t questioned it. “Aye, I do. And, you, with Koana?”

“Aye. He’s good, soldier.”

“I know he is. I think he’d make an excellent leader. He reminds me a great deal of you, Thancred.”

“Now, you couldn’t possibly mean that,“ he flushed.

“I do. He’s exceptionally intelligent. Haughty, at times. Fiercely loyal to those he loves.” They said that last point with specific emphasis.

Thancred’s flush reddened. He scooped Annie’s cheek into a soft, delicate kiss. They savored the moment. “Then why?” he pressed. “Why not Koana?”

“Wuk Lamat is also good, dear. She really cares about her people.”

“Well,” he began, another cheeky smile beginning to creep onto his face, “may the best claimant win.” Annie ‘cheers’d to that. “And by that, I mean Koana.” They rolled their eyes in response, pulling the hyur in once again for a sloppy, drunken kiss.

I've been wanting to write Dawntrail Wolcred banter ever since Dawntrail came out and I'm very happy with how this piece came out! It's not as banter-heavy as I was hoping, but it's SO my WoL and Thancred.

Rai stifled her breathing as she slipped into The Drowning Wench. She felt every loose baby hair hanging from the back of her neck, the rest of it contained in a loose bun atop her head. Each footstep was soon drowned out by the sheer atmosphere of the bar. It was always packed on the weekends; drunkards and sailors alike kept the establishment thriving. Though, the mere sixteen-year-old Rairakku found herself frequenting this place moreso than most of the regular patrons.

Rai kept her presence inconspicuous: natural movements within the shadows of the corners. She took up post against a wall in the back, scouting the room for anything of intrigue. In addition to reaping the benefits of her work, Rai thoroughly enjoyed people-watching. Her parents had made seclusion a part of their routine ever since docking in the city. To be fair, Eorzeans typically weren’t keen on walking the streets with Au Ra, but nonetheless, Rai had been all but sentenced to a life of isolation. Thus, she kept herself entertained with the daily goings-on of the Lominsan peoples.

The Roegadyn sailors had voices that carried across the room, the walls echoing in laughter and drunken slurs. There were many a lady working their wiles on unsuspecting patrons; Rai was one of those girls, a lot of the time. A white-haired Miqo’te caught Rai’s attention; she was similarly perched against a wall, but she quickly turned away once Rai had begun to settle her gaze in that direction.

Her attention was snapped away by piercing yells and spilling drinks. A bar fight, perfect. Rai shifted her weight forward, preparing to make her move. She watched as the crowd shifted across the bar in response to the scuffle. She made her way through the crowd almost unnoticeable through the ruckus, approaching a table with an assortment of belongings in the center; they had been gambling. A gold bracelet found its way into her hand and subsequently her pocket. Slinking through the shadows once again, Rai made her way home across the moonlit stones of The Aftcastle.
