TKEM, ep 16: Final thoughts

I was hoping for a full on happy ending (whatever that means) but deep down I knew I wasn’t going to get it. Still, in the end, TaeEul was the Queen in Lee Gon’s heart and I have to admit that the two of them being time travelers on the weekends for the rest of their lives is actually pretty damn amazing. Imagine all the adventures!
They might have to spent the rest of their lives thinking there’ll be no next time, but because of that, they will cheerish each moment they have with one another, living it to the fullest, loving to the fullest and tbh that’s very romantic (and more of what lots of married couples actually do). And just like that, they’ll end up spending the rest of their lives together. *wipes tear* It’s beautiful.

A few questions remain without answers but I, personally, prefer it this way. It’s okay for me not to know eveything, because I actually think we got to know the most important things. I don’t know how to explain it but I love it and I’m at peace with it. The balance was restored. Lee Gon succeded even though there was a price to pay for it but he chose to save the worlds/reality because that was the only way everyone could survive. We saw it. His priority, in the end, wasn’t to save himself as a kid, but to kill Lee Rim, preventing him from cutting the flute into half and from running away with it as a whole. He was selfless. What a hero. What a King. *fans self*

I guess the uncle was going to die anyway :(

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! How did this even happen?
Kang SinJae/Kam HyunMin were saved and got to live their lives. They both fulfilled their brilliant destiny one was richer than the other but still. Koo SeoKyeong Luna got a family and a proper name and she became a cop! (btw I loved that in all the parallel worlds she was always meant to be a brave protector, except for that one where she was an actress, I don’t know what happened there but I did LOVED that whole scene hahaha). Koo SeoRyung got the jail time she deserved and thank goodness was never near the Prime Minister jon or near the King. EunSeop got his girl and a became part of the NIS (wow!) while Yeong got the siblings he deserved and his parents weren’t divorced.

Lee Gon has been completely alone in the world of frozen time for months - months without someone to talk to, to touch or someone who would tell him what to do or to comfort him - and this is one of the few times he allows himself to leave and go to see Tae Eul or plant those new memories because otherwise the flute would fall apart completely and he would be lost forever in time, all alone, never seeing her again.
There is something so deeply intimate about Lee Gon lovingly admiting he loves to watch Tae Eul tying her hair which she does usually only when she means business and turns all no-nonsense. It’s like he is pretty much admiting that he loves when she is mean to him and that he has an obsession with her hair which has always been obvious because he never never stop from caressing them.
He’s been carrying that hair tie the whole time since she left it behind in his palace. That little piece of fabric is together with his memories of her probably the only thing that is keeping him sane in the in-between and he still gives it to her. To have the one excuse to touch her because even that one fleeting touch means everything to him.

Okay, this slipped my mind but are y’all curious about Luna’s REAL name??? It was never mentioned.

Tae Eul doesn’t even flinch when someone is aiming a gun or a knife at her and she can take down a small army on her own; HOWEVER, THE MERE THOUGHT OF LOSING LEE GON, HIS LOVE AND ALL HER MEMORIES OF HIM MAKES HER FALL APART - IT’S THE ONLY THING IN THE WORLD THAT SHE FEARS. She can’t bear the possibility that their love would turn into nothingness and just seeing the first trace of Gon disappearing from her life breaks something inside her and she makes her decision.
She finally has the answer to the question Gon has been asking her the whole time - can she leave it all behind and be with him? Yes, without hesitation. Previously, TE prioritized her work, only stealing moments with him on parking lots or when they were both investigating and fighting LR, but the possibility of Gon vanishing from her life forever puts it all into perspective and makes the choice, which she’s been postponing for so long, crystal clear to her.

And the symbolism of the moment is so beautiful - she puts on the necklace he gave her, the one bearing the sigil of his house, commits a criminal offense with Luna, gets himself a magical flute AND SHE DOES ALL THAT BECAUSE, AS TE HERSELF TEARFULLY ADMITS, A LIFE WITHOUT GON EQUALS TO DYING AND SHE WILL NEVER LEAVE HIM ALONE EVER AGAIN (since that is what she has always been worried about - him being all alone when the time stops and in the land of the frozen time). AND SHE CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT HIM EITHER. Suddenly, her Earth is finally round and her character comes full circle.
