this is super tricky on many levels. i don't have a single protagonist and I've created this world as a flawed version of my ideal realistic world, so I'm going to have to poke holes in my baby. still, I'll give this my best shot and go one by one.

cuckoo wants things to go back the way they were. she can survive without magic, but it was her sole comfort for so long she doesn't want to let it go. she wants her goddess back and she wants to live with her circus family again, she's sorry for what she did, promise

maggie wants an incredibly interconnected archive system. it's one thing to order books from nearby villages and salvage them from passing markets, but another to have catalogued and more easily accessible bank of knowledge (if anyone is starting a library it's her

alex wants better communication over long distances. trains are nice, and magic messages do in a pinch, but they miss their mum. she's lived far away for so long

ben wishes they could have been a bard. it's not a world changing thing, and maybe a career in tale telling might have burned him out, but right now it brings them joy. more joy than healing does, since anyone can be taught that. maybe he should get an apprentice

i think its sooooo important to have your ocs suck in little mundane ways. and i DONT mean that they shouldnt be cool awesome mary sues with a bajillion powers! i mean you gotta give them cringefail interests. embarrassing memories. bad taste in music. there is something fantastic and immaculate about a pink-haired magical catgirl who is the savior of the world AND who got scurvy in college because she cant feed herself and she drives a pt cruiser covered in sanrio decals.

In terms of the world, many of the churches dedicated to the banished goddesses have been sweeping a lot of hurt under the rug to drum up more support to bring the goddesses back. not good :( there's a reason they were banished which is what the party of heroes is trying to keep them gone. my kiddos don't deal with that, though.

cuckoo by far keeps the most secrets. they lie for fun, and for protection. it's all gone a bit too far in some directions, but it's just habit at this point. however, all this practice means they are the least likely to spill a secret.

Save your documents. Strive to be safe, not sorry.

Placeholder names can quickly turn into forever names. Picking name(s) on a whim can lead to great things, or it can become your worst nightmare (😁).

Your writing has value. Yes, even the most inadequate of writing. You don't have to boast or even like everything you've ever written, but even the most questionable of writing will have contributed to your growth as a storyteller. Cherish it for what it is.

You can take a break. It is absolutely okay.

First drafts are scary. But you know what's more scary? Not having a draft at all.

Using clichés or ''overdone'' tropes will not kill your story. Firstly, tropes are building blocks. Secondly, humans actively search to consume stories revolving around these tropes.

Write your heart out. Boast about your writing. Boast about your friends' and fellow writers' writing. Everyone deserves recognition, even you, from within your own heart. (Sorry. That's really cheesy. But it's true).

Not My Magical Destiny

Welcome one and all to my most recent self-created brainrot!! I have had this idea cooking for months and my creative writing class has given me the perfect avenue/inspiration for it. So, enjoy!

Kodi is a humble college student working at a bakery. Well, when their deferral is up they’ll be a student again. Their best friend Gabriel has been missing for a few weeks and Kodi has heard next to nothing from him, save one-word texts answering their messages. Finally, he shows up at the bakery, spouting tales of a magical world under their feet and above their head. He’s a key part of it in ways Kodi can barely stomach to think about; it would make them sick to their stomach if Gabe got hurt. 

How will Kodi deal with this revelation and the consequences of their best friend’s actions?
