What is your favourite genre to read? Is it the same as your favourite genre to write?
What subgenres within that genre are you favourite to read? Are they the same ones you like to write?
Hi! Thank you so much for the ask. My favorite genre to read has always been fantasy, but sci-fi is a very close second! Pretty much all my current story ideas are some form of fantasy, so I guess that tracks lol.
I've always loved high fantasy epics that give me a lot of ground to cover. I also loves anything that also includes elements of horror and tragedy, because I love to see characters suffering. I'd like to think that's what my stories will turn out to be, but I've still got some fleshing out to do to get there!
In honour of Storyteller Saturday, here's snippet from my WIP, Night Of The Blue Moon!
Solana took out her kindle, wanting nothing more than to finish the romance novel she was currently reading, but when she was halfway down the page she was on, she was distracted by the sound of footsteps behind her. Whoever it was sounded like they’d just jumped onto the roof.
“I finally caught up to you,” the mysterious stranger said, “Phoebe and Hades sent me here to find you.”
Solana jumped, putting her kindle away. The stranger was a woman she could only describe as radiant, with flowing blonde hair held back with a gold tiara, and a two piece dress glittering with jewels. “Are you…Are you talking to me?”
“Your name is Solana, isn’t it? Phoebe was in quite the hurry when she told me who I was looking for,” the woman responded, “I’m Theia, the titaness of gold, jewels, and radiance, and I’m here to offer you a contract.”
Solana froze. “A…What?”
In honour of Storytelling Saturday, here’s a snippet from the first draft of Night Of The Blue Moon, my very gay fantasy novel about adult magical girls, the titans, and an evil billionaire!
“Well, that’s one thing that you humans got right about Zeus,” Hades added, shrugging, “He’s the world’s biggest stuck-up asshole, and he’s a terrible husband to boot.”
“That’s big talk coming from a man who kidnapped himself a wife,” Phoebe quipped, glaring at him like he’d pissed in her drink.
“Oh please, all I did was take Persephone in and show her the sights of the underworld. It’s not my fault that Demeter got pissy because she didn’t wanna leave,” he quipped back, shrugging, “Even if I could have held her hostage, I wouldn’t have done so. I’m not above kidnapping, but holding somebody hostage is where I draw the line.”
Happy STS! Do any of your characters garden, and what do they garden? If not, then what flowers do you associate with your characters?
Thanks for the ask! None of my characters garden, but I do associate Nathaniel (Love interest of my debut novel, The Tengu And The Angel) with white roses, because white roses are one of Nathaniel’s motifs. White roses represent innocence and pure love, and they’re also England’s national flower. Nathaniel is an exceptionally pure and innocent soul who’s way too nice for his own good, and has a hard time saying ‘no’, especially if he’s being asked a favour by someone he cares about. He also dresses like a Victorian gentleman, and he does his best to act like one too.

“You ok, Ariel? You seem a little distracted today,” Solana said as Ariel came into the food bank to drop off her weekly donation.
Ariel turned away, hiding her face in her hoodie. “It’s nothing, I, uh…I was just wondering if what I brought in today was good enough…” It was a terrible excuse, but it was all that she could come up with.
Solana opened the pastel blue tote bag Ariel always brought her donations in with. This week, Ariel had brought cat food, dog food, tampons, pads, and some bottles of shampoo and shower gel. “This is perfect! This is exactly what we needed,” she responded happily, “Thank you so much!”
Ariel let out a nervous laugh as she took her empty bag back. “W-well…Last week, you said that you needed hygiene products, and pet food, so that’s what I thought I should bring…”
Solana smiled her million watt smile back at her, and Ariel almost melted right on the spot. Solana’s smile didn’t just light up the room–It could probably light up the whole city. “You’re so thoughtful, you know that? Other people bring in tins of gross-looking food, and instant noodles, but you bring in stuff that we actually need. You read the signs, and ask what we need, and then you buy it for us to give to people.”
“Yeah, well, that’s what I should be doing, isn’t it? I donate to you guys because I wanna help you help people, and the only way I can really help is by giving you the things you need,” Ariel responded like it was the most obvious thing in the world, “I wouldn’t be helping if I was giving you stuff that no one needs or wants.”
Happy STS! If you were to design a deck of playing cards based on characters in your WIP, who would you assign to be the King? The Queen? The Jack? The Ace? And the Joker?
Happy STS !! This is a really good question (that's also a little difficult). I definitely think Basira would be The Ace. They have very similar vibes (in a way). Nadia would be the king not only in the sense that she's pretty powerful but also in the sense that she's my oldest character and has a lot of history. Vanessa would be the queen (I have no proper reasoning it just feels right). Edith would be the Jack (again, no real reason, it just makes sense). And Andre would be the Joker because he's cool and the Joker card is cool.

Why? I ask WHYYYYYYYY???? You left Jo one time, without a word, without so much as a text, WHYYYYYYY would you do it again??????? She told you how deeply hurt she was, how she lost a lot, not just you because it was so difficult for her to get herself together when she thought not only you left but you dared dying! And then when she finally puts all her faith in you again, you go and do this one more time!!!! WHYYYY??? I know you think you're doing the right thing but love you idiot you meant well in the first round and it only made sense to you!!!!
Now, moving on... Go to therapy for goodness sake!!!! GO TO THERAPY!!!! Make us all a favour and get help!!!!!! You're making it difficult for people not want to smack you (and that's annoying as hell because you'd even agree you deserve to be smacked and like Jo says, you'd like it too much), just get help!!!! Go to therapy so you can see the beautiful man we all see and spare me this suffering of having to write about your self punishments and how you mess your life up because you think you don't deserve anything good.

I mean maybe her friends have more "personality" than her because they're more vibrant and open, you know? Like Roopa's clearly been through a lot with her father, so it makes sense that she's closed off. Maybe her voice is more authentic, because she seems like more of an introvert than an extrovert? From what I can see, she clearly loves her brother, is an antiromantic, and struggles to speak up for herself, but has the ambition to move forward and move on. Plus, she seems bad with emotions (which, what a mood- every character of mine ever!!) haha
I'm sure everything will work out, though!

🌾 So my Melody OC, Kate, needs to learn that it's okay for the world to revolve around her sometimes. She's too engrossed in making it perfect for her twin Elena, her brother Jeremy and her aunt Jenna that she most of the times sometimes forgets to think about herself.
She has anxiety and weirdly, instead of feeling anxious about herself or things relating to her safety, she thinks about her friends and family.
Take a breather Katey, it's going to be alright. Think about yourself too, it's no sin.
🌼 My unpublished fic OC: Roopa Subramaniam. It's hard to write her because I don't know what defines her life except her daddy issues or keeping her brother safe. She's a doctor and she has friends, but those friends tend to have more personality than her. In the sense I have 5 booklets worth of what makes them them but a page on Roopa.
Roopa essentially has one flaw, or defense mechanism: keeping love at bay unconsciously because she doesn't believe men can be any different than her own dad in a relationship. She's rude without reason sometimes and due to her defense mechanism, she ignores her best friend- Madhav, crushing on her since forever.
But she slowly changes when another guy (the male protagonist, a restaurant-chain owner and Madhav's childhood friend) shows up and is sweet to her.
Like gorl, I can't have one guy like me back AND YOU HAVE TWO
I'm more jealous of her situation now that I think of it

I actually can't remember all my OCs because there are so many abandoned and unfinished drafts (oops), but for completed WIPs, I actually had Sohee Kim the longest... I think about 2 years now?
Until then, I've been writing about characters that aren't POC, even when I'm Korean, and I haven't thought anything about it. Sohee's actually has a special place in my heart because she's the first POC main character that I wrote, and I'm so proud :) from: storyteller saturday (even though it's monday pfft)

“Good. Oh, but before you go.” Before he can realize I uncap the water bottle and throw it at him, and he fumbles to catch it. The end result is beautiful. The water makes an arch and hits him directly in the face and his dyed, blue hair, him sputtering in conclusion. It smacks his nose, too, with a satisfying crack, and I can't help but snicker.
“To top it off,” I add, taking a pinch of salt from the jar, holding my wrists just right, and aiming it at him. Though he’ll think otherwise, I think I found my calling. Getting rid of demonic beings.

for my current fantasy wip which i hate to plot in the month of june: a sarcastic teen who should've died 18 years ago and a nine-tailed fox that devoured 99 spirits but one find out that they need to pass the 10 hell gates in order to be reincarnated
for destination seoul / my contemporary wip which i desperately need to finish: to avoid third-wheeling at her aunt's wedding and to prove to herself that korea shouldn't be as daunting as it seems, hyeri employs kim taeyoung as her fake date

sohee - 9/10 bc she has that badass cat-eye look and because i'm biased and her sarcastic personality is the best
taeyoung - 8/10 because sometimes he loves dressing like a homeless person and honestly that's such a vibe lmaoo but he's more of a soft character c:
hyeri - 7/10 because beauty isn't everything & part of it is because she struggles with the traditional korean beauty standards but her heart is beautiful and i love her.
gumiho (to be named) - 10/10 bc mythical creatures pffttt
🌿 definitely 1 pov. i like going in depth with characters, and I think unless I learn to extensively plot, multiple povs will be the bane of my existence haha.
OKAY but have you ever like written in past tense and then realized you suddenly switched to present?? because I never had this issue but THEN i started writing destination seoul in present tense and NOW I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.
1st person, usually for contemporary and 3rd for fantasy. idk why, but it works for me that way haha.

thanks so much for the ask xx i'm genuinely sorry this took forever ):
hyeri and jiah, for sure. I think it's because hyeri's genuinely a headstrong character, and though she likes to think that she's ruled by logic and not emotions, as shown by her reckless actions, she's obviously the more emotional type. and she has a bunch of emotions usually coming to her all at once, so it's more of a: how do i figure this out.
jiah, on the other hand, is usually patient and tries to understand people as much as possible, so she knows how to deal with hyeri's "outbursts." the fact that they also both love spicy things and having deep talks (trying to get out of their comfort zone/be open in their own ways) makes them a bit closer, and that might be why they get along :)

In terms of the world, many of the churches dedicated to the banished goddesses have been sweeping a lot of hurt under the rug to drum up more support to bring the goddesses back. not good :( there's a reason they were banished which is what the party of heroes is trying to keep them gone. my kiddos don't deal with that, though.
cuckoo by far keeps the most secrets. they lie for fun, and for protection. it's all gone a bit too far in some directions, but it's just habit at this point. however, all this practice means they are the least likely to spill a secret.
alex can't deal with guilt well and is most likely to spill a secret
