How can we stop the SU fandom from being the absolute worst?

Stop pretending that a fandom is a homogeneous entity or a hive mind? Realize that the expectation of harmony from a collection of many to adhere to standards of few is in fact impossible? Understand that your enjoyment of something is not dependent on the actions and thoughts of others?
