Radio!Holmes
Radio!Holmes
I’ve been listening to a lot of BBC Radio!Holmes recently (my lovely nearly-mum-in-law bought them for me, and each episode is almost the perfect length for my walk to/from work). It’s great stuff, but this exchange from the beginning of the Musgrave Ritual had me guffawing out loud on the streets of South London the other morning... (apologies in advance for any mistakes, I’m transcribing...)
(Watson has been whinging about how Holmes never tidies up, so he goes off to his room and gets his box of old papers. There follows a bit of faffing about, during which Watson helps to move the box, and in doing so they fall over. A bit of giggling ensues, then:)
HOLMES: wouldn’t do for Mrs Hudson to come in just now, eh? Lying on the floor like two naughty schoolboys...
WATSON: wouldn’t do at all.
ME: (shipping squees)
HOLMES: although I do suspect that there may well be something of the naughty schoolgirl in Mrs Hudson...
ME: wait, WHAT?!
WATSON: steady on, Holmes
HOLMES: wellllll...
WATSON: do you think so?
HOLMES: anything’s possible.
WATSON: hmmm ... yes, I suppose it is. (They get up.) I must say, this carpet is really rather comfortable.
HOLMES: and kind to the knees!
ME: *dies laughing*
(Please tell me that this isn’t all some kind of elaborate prank and that someone else has heard this too?)
Added to all this the fact that a lot of the scenes where they’re back in Baker Street discussing a case are so cosy that they sound like they’re snuggled up in bed and this becomes honestly one of the best series of anything ever.

More Posts from Aristofranes

Happy easter! The Chap and I spent yesterday making our own Creme Eggs, but we forgot about the bowl of leftover chocolate and ... well, this is what happened. (Don't worry, the leftover chocolate will not be leftover for long ... if only so that we can free our utensils from their chocolatey prison.)
Politics! (Sort of)
Today is polling day for the U.K. General Election … it also marks five years since the Chap and I met. We got drunk watching the election coverage at a mutual pal’s house and made Robot Wars jokes, obviously.
I remember thinking that he didn’t like me very much because I’d been very loud and very drunk, which was a shame because he had a nice beard and pretty eyes. Turns out he did (he was just very very shy).
So the morals of the story are (probably): democracy is sexy; so are people with beards; Robot Wars is always relevant; be nice to shy people; make sure you vote if you’re eligible to do so because you might meet lovely people at election night parties.

“Ta-da!”
In which Mr. Holmes does a spot of decorating.
(Yes, there really are 20 more of these, and here’s the proof.)

“I thought you were retiring, Holmes?”
“What? Never mind that now, Watson - there’s a murder!”
More soon! Meanwhile, the obligatory periodic reminder that Mrs Hudson and pals are now on Facebook, if you like that sort of thing...

Ask Mrs Hudson Anything!
Right … I had so much fun replying to gardnerhill’s reply last week that I am opening up my inbox to questions/prompts for Mrs H. I have a day off on Friday and I’m intending to spend it doing as much doodling as I possibly can…
So, fire away! What would you like to ask Mrs H (or the rest of the gang)? Keep it clean, she won’t stand for any funny business…
