Perfection.

Asexuals who are not trans or don't experience any same-gender attraction are not part of the LGBT community as they do not suffer transphobia or homophobia. They receive the same privileges in society as any other cishet person. The "A" tacked onto the acronym has historically been for "ally" which has always been understood to be closeted individuals who used the term ally to show their support while also keeping themselves safe. Please don't insert yourself somewhere you aren't welcome.

I literally wasn’t inserting myself anywhere. But I will say this, to you specifically, and to anyone else who comes to my blog who also feels this way. Asexuals, myself included, do not suffer transphobia or homophobia. That is true. And we do not suffer systemic discrimination. But we do suffer discrimination from members of society. It’s why I don’t talk about the fact that I am ace with anyone except the people here. I can block people here if they take things too far. I can’t do that in real life.

I don’t care what the A tacked on to the acronym actually means. I don’t actually label myself as LGBT, or LGBT+, or any variation thereof, because of people like you, and because of LGBT+ people who, despite being shamed, and discriminated against their entire lives, still feel that it is okay to treat me badly just because I might want a place where I fit in, the same way that they do. Might. I’m not even trying to fit into that same place with them, and they still, rather than offering me what support they feel is appropriate, are too busy making sure that I know that I don’t belong with them, either.

I am not trying to insert myself into the LGBT community, and I don’t label myself as LGBT, but what you did here was a form of discrimination, whether you realize it or not. By implying that I don’t feel othered because of who I am in exactly the same way that some other people do, and that that makes my feelings less important, you discriminated against me. And for that, you can go fuck yourself.

Steven Is Destablizing

Steven Is Destablizing

So, I was a bit bothered by this scene in Mindful Education. We learned in the episode that when the members of a fusion are mentally unbalanced it can cause some pretty gnarly side-effects

Garnet: For fusion to work there needs to be balance. An imbalance can cause your fusion to lose touch with reality, see things that aren’t there, and eventually fall apart

But the thing was, Steven wasn’t fused in this scene… Or at least, he wasn’t any more fused than he normally is.

It’s never really stated outright, but since at least We Need To Talk it’s been pretty clear that Steven had more in common with a fusion than we initially anticipated. Fusions are new individuals born of the love and union of two others, at once a mix of both and yet greater than the sum of their parents parts. More than just a parallel, Steven’s birth concluded with Rose becoming a part of him the same way Ruby and Sapphire are a part of Garnet. Steven himself is a fusion, and the fact that his “fusion realm” is leaking into the real world is a very bad sign. Even worse, it’s not the first time this has happened

Steven Is Destablizing

Remember when this happened to Steven in Gem Drill? When Steven saw Peridot drilling into the cluster he freaked out and started hallucinating, causing his “fusion realm” to merge with that of The Cluster in the same way Stevonnie’s merged with Garnet’s. You can say all you want that it was dream walking, but Steven was awake when it hit him. He’s not narcoleptic, but he was in a very serious state of disharmony.

Steven Is Destablizing

It’s no wonder he’s been unbalanced lately. Jasper, Bismuth, Eyeball. All of them were major threats to Steven who refused his help. He didn’t have any option but to defend himself. He did what he needed to do. Rose wouldn’t have lost sleep over this, she might not have even realized that what she was doing would feel wrong to someone else, because though it was unavoidable and  the best thing anyone could have done in the situation.

Lately, Steven is being forced to cope with the fact that the part of him that’s really him doesn’t agree with Rose’s beliefs or actions. Conflicts are getting harsher and he’s being forced to make worse and worse choices as tests of character: choices that are driving a wedge between his quartz and human selves.

I don’t think Rose is coming back. Believe me I don’t. However, I do think that this is all going somewhere, and soon, sooner than you might think, Steven is going to face a very real threat from the inside, and his life may very well hang in the balance

Steven Universe Theory: How Long Did Greg & Rose Spend Together?

One detail in Steven Universe that has always been rather vague is the length of time shared by Greg and Rose prior to Steven’s birth. However, after a little bit of research, I may have discovered the answer.

image

In Steven’s Birthday, we learn that Greg first met the Crystal Gems at the age of twenty-two. This gives us a starting point for a calculation. All we need to know is Greg’s age at the time of Steven’s birth, which will require a little bit more work.

image

The recording in Lion 3: Straight to Video shows Rose, pregnant with Steven, enjoying what may be the final months (perhaps even days) that she shares with Greg.

image

In the outline of the episode, posted by Ben Levin, Greg is said to be “30-something” years old at the time.

image

This places Greg between 30 and 39, which is a little bit vague. Thankfully, we have further evidence to work with: that Greg is currently in his early-to-mid-fourties.

image

“Early-to-mid-fourties” suggests somewhere between fourty and fourty-seven. As Steven is thirteen/fourteen during the series (and Greg was at least thirty in Rose’s video), that would place Greg between thirty and thirty-four years old at the time of Steven’s birth.

Given that Greg met the Crystal Gems at age twenty-two, this means that the time he and Rose shared was:

At minimum, seven years (if Greg’s twenty-third birthday was the day after he met Rose).

At most, thirteen years (if Greg’s thirty-fifth birthday was the day after Steven’s birth).

In either case, a very long time indeed.

image

Of course, this theory is based on a fair amount of vague estimates, so it is unlikely to deliver pinpoint accuracy. Nevertheless, it should provide a reasonable approximation for those who are interested.
