There's something about the tmagp characters' motivations, and who they're willing to sacrifice, and how the people or things they prioritise act towards them, and how it goes for them.

Because

Celia is willing to sacrifice Sam, who loves her and who she genuinely does care about, to stay with Jack. And then there's a moment where she isn't sure she can go through with it, and she loses him anyway without having to act, and she'll probably never know exactly what choice she would have made in the end, even though she's consciously planned this for weeks.

Alice straight up abandons Teddy and Colin, who are both Not Doing Well, when they are explicitly asking her for help, to go and protect Sam, who has told her not to come after him. It's barely a decision for her - she quite clearly stops thinking about anything or anyone else.

Sam finds out that Celia betrayed him and STILL puts himself in danger to protect her. And ends up falling through the gap to another world, which is exactly what she was planning to do to him.

Gwen throws Lena under the bus the moment the opportunity comes up, purely for the sake of her own ambition, which is part of a broader pattern of decisions. And it's immediately obvious when she gets what she wanted that it's only going to go badly for her.

Idk idk it's the love and the need and the want of it all, and the ruthlessness that can come out of it, and the way they make or don't make their choices, and the consequences of it aaaaaa

I think the distinction between Jon being the archivist and error being an archivist is so so so important. I don’t know if error/the tmagp archivist is in any way Jon, but even if it is, there’s a certain anonymity, unextraordinarity, to it.

This is not the archivist, the one who shall be part of the fear’s design, forever watching, saving and dooming the universes he see fit. This is an archivist, just one of its kind, long forgotten, name wiped out, left to collect dust in a locked abandoned archive, fighting for survival. It’s but a shadow of its former glory.

What is the worst thing you have ever seen?

Odd take perhaps, but I find the fact Martin and Jon never met in the TMAGP universe… more sweet, in a sense?

The Jon and Martin we knew, who loved each other, who bickered, and hurt each other, and helped heal each other all the same, they weren’t drawn together by some string of fate, not destined to be together in every universe. No. They just happened to fall in love. It didn’t change anything, and it certainly didn’t save the world, but it was there.

Maybe TMAGP Jon and Martin never met, maybe they died long before they ever could, but it’s oddly beautiful in a sense for the two we are familiar with. It makes their story, how they came to truly care for one another, feel more real. I actually think it would be more tragic if it was some destined thing, because it takes away from them what’s most important in TMA — choice. The choice to stick together through it all and to love one another dearly, even if it’s hard sometimes.

“Do you think we love each other in every universe?”, but the answer is no, and maybe, just maybe, that’s sweeter than any yes could ever be.

You who watch and know and understand none.
