<- prev mushrooms are not plants they are actually an entirely different kingdom of life that behaves and functions differently from anything else on the planet. I enter an impotent nerd rage when I see people refer to mushroom qingqiu as a plant. scum villain fans don't seem to know how mushrooms work but neither does MXTX I have seen mushroom qingqiu depicted with roots and leaves before fungi do not have either of these features. instead they have mycelium which is an underground network of the fungus's cells and also the real body of the fungus. the mushrooms we see above ground and sticking out of rotten logs are actually fruiting bodies. removing them does not harm the fungus in most cases it just inhibits their ability to spread. contrary to what MXTX says about the sun moon dew mushroom sunlight is actually harmful to fungi more often than not. mushroom qingiu is tye fruiting body of the sun moon dew mushrooms mycelium and I know that isn't how it works in the book but in theory if it was a real fungus since they didn't destroy the mycelium it could possibly spit up more shizuns whenever anyway no you are not stupid for not knowing about this fungi do not really receive any focus or recognition in our society and we still don't really understand how they work. some fungi do shit that we are simply unable to explain with our current knowledge. please read entangled life by merlin sheldrake it is so so good and enlightening about the world of fungi ok rant and shilling over have a nice day

Olympic Chocolate Muffins! (since the recipe is paywalled on WaPo)

Cool the muffins and ganache completely before assembly, about 30-40 minutes

Makes 12 muffins

Muffin Ingredients:

¾ cup (180 ml) whole or reduced fat milk

¼ cup (60 ml) water

2 teaspoons instant coffee powder

½ cup (50 grams) unsweetened cocoa powder

4 tablespoons (56 grams) unsalted butter, cut into pieces

½ cup + 1/3 cup (145 total grams) bittersweet or semisweet chocolate chunks

2 cups (250 grams) AP flour

1 tablespoon baking powser

¼ teaspoon fine salt

½ cup (110 grams) packed dark brown sugar

½ cup (100 grams) granulated sugar

¼ cup (60 ml) neutral oil

2 large eggs, room temp

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup (60 grams) chopped milk chocolate, plus more for topping

Ganache Ingredients:

2/3 cup (115 grams) bittersweet or semisweet chocolate chunks

½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream

1/8 teaspoon fine salt

Directions

Position rack in the middle of the oven, preheat 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a regular sized muffin pan with liners.

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine milk, water, and instant coffee. Bring to a simmer, whisking occasionally.

Add cocoa powder and whisk.

Decrease heat to low, add ½ cup (85 grams) of the chocolate chunks and butter, whisk until melted and smooth.

Transfer to a large bowl and cool slightly

In a medium bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt.

To chocolate mixture, whisk in brown sugar, granulated sugar, oil, eggs, and vanilla.

Add about 1/3 of the flour mixture, whisk until incorporated

Add remaining flour, folding with a spatula until no streaks remain.

Fold in remaining 1/3 cup (60 grams) chocolate chunks and chopped milk chocolate, until just combined. Do not overmix.

Using a ¼ cup scoop or measuring cup, divide batter among 12 muffin cups, filling to the top of the pan.

Sprinkle additional chocolate chunks on top.

Transfer pan to oven, and immediately reduce oven temperature to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Bake for 22-24 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Start on ganache now

Let muffins cool in pan for 10 minutes, then use a knife or piping tip to cut an approximately ¾ inch wide hole in the center of each muffin. (use the centers as ice cream topping or eat now!)

Let muffins cool completely.

GANACHE: in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine chocolate chunks, heavy cream, and salt. Cook, stirring frequently, until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let cool completely.

Once muffins and ganache are completely cool, spoon or pipe ganache into the center of the muffin, until slightly overflowed. Serve immediately.

oval-shaped wangxian fanart in shades of brown. lwj, at the center, is looking at wwx’s grave tablet while wwx, as a ghost, leans on his shoulder with a gentle smile on his lips. on the background there are some tree branches.

do not stand by my grave and weep. i am not there, i do not sleep

A SUGGESTED READING ORDER FOR TAMSYN MUIR'S SHORT FICTION FOR LOCKED TOMB FANS

1. The House that Made the Sixteen Loops of Time. 5k. It's short, it's the very first thing she published, it's sweet, you can think CamPal thoughts while you read it.

2. The Magician's Apprentice. 4.8k. Let's get into it. Simply one of the best things she's written, has all sorts of echoes for the Locked Tomb and altogether a barn burner. (tw: grooming)

3. Chew. 3.7k. Zombie fiction set in WWII. (tw: sexual assault)

4. Union. 5.5k. I love Union and think it doesn't get enough hype. Deeply, deeply Kiwi and also quite unsettling. A great follow-up to Nona.

5. Princess Floralinda and The Forty Flight Tower. 216 pages. A novella, get it from your library or as an ebook, alternatively, Moira Quirk does a great job with the audiobook. This is a fairy tale satire, as pointed and black-hearted as you can imagine. A main course & a must-read.

6. The Woman in the Hill. 3.9k. I'll be honest, I think this one is skippable, but then you can say you've read them all. Lovecraftian horror, told in an epistolary format between settlers in the New Zealand bush.

7. Undercover. 59 pages. Plop your money down (or find a pirated version), it's worth every penny. A undercover cop risks her life to investigate rumors of a ghoul in a gangster's speakeasy. Blood, devotion, deceit--everything you could want in a TMuir story.

8. The Deepwater Bride (links) Dessert. Available through hoopla, your local library or several ebook anthologies. Teen Hester Blake, from a family of seers, determines that blonde, Converse-clad Rainbow Kipley is destined to be the bride of an uncanny god. 22 pages and it'll change your life.

BONUS: self-published webcomic APOTHECIA, illustrated by Shelby Cragg. Space monsters, teenage girls & corruption, oh my.
