Rick May, Soldier’s VA, has passed away due to COVID-19

With an extensive acting profile ranging from our familiar American patriot Soldier from Team Fortress 2, to Peppy and Andross from Star Fox, Rick May was a seasoned veteran of voice acting who has left this world today. 

A post from Larry Albert on Facebook was crossposted by the Sniper’s voice actor from TF2, John Patrick Lowrie. Albert, a close friend of May, shares some personal words about May in his memorium post:

Rick May was a force of nature, a pain in the ass sometimes but never to the point where I would not use him again and again. We were working friends, colleagues and buddies. Hopefully there will be those who will speak of his years in the theater, as a teacher, a director and voice talent, of his one-man show as Teddy Roosevelt. I knew the man who asked me if I could get him a copy of an old Republic Studios serial cliffhanger “The Phantom Rider” if he got me an autograph from his friend Ty Hardin from the old “Bronco” TV series.

I knew the man who along with Frank Buxton and David Selvig stood and applauded my daughter Andee when I introduced her to the audience at the Kirkland Performance Center for what would be her first appearance as a professional actor. I knew the man who was always encouraging when I had my bout with cancer. I knew the man whose passing leaves a huge hole in my heart and I believe so many others. I wish you strength Diana. 

Rick I wish for you to know eternal peace. Goodbye buddy, I’m gonna miss the hell out of you.

Chapter 2 of "Just Like Cupid and Psyche" is here! Finally, I can't believe I took so long to write this. Anyways, please enjoy!

I am also working on 2 side projects, so chapter 3 will come even later. Just a warning, otherwise everyone will wonder why chapter 3 is not out yet.

Just Like Cupid and Psyche

Chapter 2:

The once pristine white room was now covered in red. Some of the colored spots were darker than the others, indicating that they had been splattered a while ago. The room was like an empty abandoned surgery room, but with an addition of two people.

One of the two people was standing, looming over the other that was laying on the operation table. Their eyes were wild, pupils looking frantically in every direction in search of a way out, any kind of escape, but there was nothing they could do. The straps holding the "patient" down was tight, creating purple bracelets around their wrists. It bruised them and their hands were cold to the touch, as if all of the blood was drained.

The looming figure was stitching up an incision he had made somewhere around the other person's neck, humming a tune to himself as if his actions were ordinary. The heart monitor was beeping almost at a rapid pace due to the panic the "patient" felt.

It took about 2 and a half hours for the person to calm down. Their breathing slowed, and so did their heart rate. The frantic eyes went still, staring at the empty ceiling. Their heart stopped beating, and the other person sighed. Of course, not all "patients" would survive a surgery like this, especially when they didn't ask for it.

The man removes the restraints and drops the lifeless body onto the floor. The sound of wings flapping lands next to the body. A dove coos and cocks its head curiously, looking at the corpse on the dirty floor. It pecks the cheek of the body, unmoving and cold, but it doesn't react. Losing interest almost immediately, the bird flies to find a higher spot to perch. It lands on the shoulder of the standing man, rubbing its head against the man's face.

The mysterious man moves to turn on the lights in the room, needing more than just the operation table's light to see and clean up his mess. The lights came on, and the room didn't look so sinister anymore. Of course, the sight would still disgust and terrify someone if they weren't a friend of the man.

The dove kept cooing, closing its eyes and fluffing up its feathers as the man began to scratch its little head. It was an affectionate action. He started as he suddenly became aware of the flock of doves perched on the ceiling beams, huddled up together and cooing.

He stares at them, then a warm smile comes as he stretches his arms to both sides. The birds come flying down, each perching neatly on his arms and making space for others. Some land themselves onto his head, messing up his hair so it becomes their ideal nest.

"You are all so spoiled." The man cooed back to the birds, rubbing his cheeks against the two birds on his shoulders. He lowered one arm to open the door, then resumed holding it up as the birds that fled came back. He walked out of the room, leaving the body and the messy operation room for later.

The birds finally let him have his arms back, and he begins cleaning and sanitizing the room. He drags the body to a cold storage and leaves it there alongside all the other rotting corpses. He really needs to get rid of those soon; observing the decomposition of the human body can be delayed till next time when he has the correct equipment. And a good amount of funding.

Dell sat in his workshop, tinkering with some machines he happened to pick up from the side of the road. It's always nice to see a broken machine, then taking it home to see what's wrong with it. At least, that logic applies to the hardworking engineer.

Jeremy was sitting close by on a stool, sipping his BONK! from a straw. He had been sitting there for quite a while now, just watching Dell tinker with whatever it is that he found and occasionally cringe at the small exclamations that Dell blurts out every now and then.

It was just another slow, lazy Saturday. No rushing, no nothing. Jeremy lifts his feet off the ground and sway them as he sat on the stool, staring lazily and sleepily at the engineer at work. "When are we gonna do something fun?" Jeremy spoke, his voice laced with tiredness and annoyance. The engineer didn't reply. He huffs a laugh through his nostrils and continue working on the load of metal.

Feeling like he was being ignored, Jeremy gets up and walks out of the workshop, and into Dell's house. Basically, the workshop is the garage. Jeremy wanders through Dell's living room, looking through various car magazines and books on his shelf. Then, he comes into the kitchen, grabs a slice of cheese wrapped in plastic, and starts munching slowly on it.

There was nothing out of the ordinary in his home, nothing interesting to know about; it was just a standard American house. On the walls were pictures of him and his father, Fred Conagher. There were also pictures of him and the rest of the family. There weren't many pictures of them in the present, only when he was younger. Jeremy knew well that Dell wouldn't mind him wandering the house and peeking into places he wasn't supposed to be, and that's exactly what he was doing. He sat on the floor near the stairs, flipping through a photo album.

Some pages contain old pictures of a man Jeremy has never seen - obviously because he's dead - and pictures containing moments of Dell with his parents and brothers. He seemed happy in those pictures, happier than he is now. Maybe if he had someone living with him, he wouldn't be so alone. But alas, he has nobody. He has no spouse, no mother, no children; his father went missing when he was in his 20s, and his older brothers, who are twins (they're triplets), Zed and Maynard, were still back in Texas.

Jeremy never knew much about his two other brothers, but what he does know is that they are all engineers. He has heard stories about those two; Dell loves to talk about his family and work. Apparently, they are running a company called the "Conagher Express", and it was said to be quite reliable.

"Snooping around as usual, aren't we boy?" Dell said from behind Jeremy, making him jump onto his feet. He laughs, a fatherly sort of laugh; he could be a really good father if he had children. Jeremy starts fuming, closing the book and setting it down in a drawer a little too harshly. Dell's expression softens further, and he grows more concerned by the next second.

"Yo, hey, I'm not mad. I was just being cheeky," Jeremy panicked and raised his hands up like he was surrendering to the cops. Dell's expression changed as soon as he said so, and he let out a long sigh. Dell was always the sentimental guy, caring for people's feelings a little too much, while disregarding his own. Dell chuckled awkwardly after they both stood there and stared at each other, then led Jeremy to the kitchen for lunch.

Jeremy calls his mother while Dell prepares their meal. He usually stays with Dell on weekends after they became friends, and even though his mother knows this, he still calls her to make sure she knows when he's coming home. Dell cooks while he whistles some tune. Jeremy couldn't be sure which song that is, but he really likes "Sex Bomb" by Tom Jones; Dell never wants to listen to it with him.

"So, which other friends of yours am I gonna be meeting? You did say that he was coming over," Jeremy asked while they ate. It was mostly silence, after all, they didn't have much in common to talk about, other than the fact that they met at the diner where Jeremy worked.

Dell nods, placing his fork down on the table and leans back in his chair. Jeremy stares in confusion; what was this man even doing? It always catches him off guard when Dell does something like this. In the midst of confusion, Dell raises his hand and starts counting down from five to one. This raises even greater confusion.

When Dell hand is held tightly in a fist, a sort of aggressive knock was heard at the front door. Dell chuckled again. He stands up from his seat and approaches the front door, and Jeremy followed. On the other side of the door was a man, taller than him and the engineer; he looks about the average height though. Over his head was an ill fitting helmet that covers his eyes. Exactly how does he see under that? And how was he permitted to drive a car with it?

Dell embraced the man and welcomed him into the house. Jeremy would have thought that they were dating if it wasn't for Dell asking about the man's wife. The man's laughter was loud, like a roar, echoing through Dell's home. Jeremy could see them getting along somehow.

"Jeremy, Jane. Jane, Jeremy." Dell said as he sat the man down on the couch. This guy's name is Jane? A girl's name? Jeremy scoffs and laughs to himself. This has to be a joke, it just has to. No way are any parents going to name their son a girl's name, that's just ridiculous!

Unfortunately, Jeremy was proven that this was indeed the case. Jane's full name was Jane Doe; why is his entire name a joke? "Unidentified female corpse"? Seriously? Jeremy kept his composure as they talked, trying his hardest not to laugh at the man's whole identity. The young boy found out that Jane was a former soldier, but not many people have high regards for him. After he fulfilled his duties, he studied to become a lawyer. He was, apparently, a public defender. Another surprising thing is that he was a priest in another state. This left Jeremy speechless. How can a man like him be in those occupations?

Dell was genuinely surprised as well when he first met Jane a while back, but it has become apparent that this was a very normal thing for him. Dell comes out of the kitchen after a while, letting Jeremy sit and converse with Jane. He places down in front of the both of them a can of plutonium berry flavoured BONK! and a BH sandwich. Next to the can of soda was a silly straw, which Jeremy happily accepts. Jane picks up his BH sandwich and carefully take a bite, making sure no honey was oozing out the other side and falling onto Dell's coffee table.

Dell sits down next to Jane and reads a book while he finishes his snack. Jeremy sips sort of nervously on his drink, occasionally darting his eyes around the room to find something to talk about. "So, Jane, you go on business trips a lot? I mean, considering you're a lawyer and stuff." Jeremy popped the question, trying to sound as casual as possible. He was sitting next to two successful people, and he is stuck with a dead-end job and living with his mom; he can't blow this for himself.

"Yes, I travel a lot to help the fine citizens of America! They have done nothing wrong and should not be sentenced to prison!" Jane bellowed proudly. He sure does love America, doesn't he? Half the time Jeremy spent with him was him talking about America.

"Thanks for protecting us, fine citizens," Jane said. "We appreciate it," Dell added, emphasizing "fine citizens" as a joke. The ex-soldier didn't catch that joke and only nodded enthusiastically. Jeremy didn't notice that Jane had finished his sandwich.

"Listen, Jane, I know it's sudden and all, but you never introduced me to your wife before. What's she like?" Dell asked, patting his shoulder.

Jeremy thought for a while, and jumped to the conclusion that his wife must be as loud as him to be able to bear listening to the American anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance every morning. Seriously, Jeremy hated doing that every Monday morning back in high school. Not that he doesn't love his country; it just gets really boring.

Jane shakes his head at the request, his smile disappearing almost immediately. "No can do, Engie, she has asked me to make sure she remains a secret! Don't ask why." Jane replied.

Jeremy and Dell stop questioning the ex-soldier about his life and move on to something else. They end up spending the entire afternoon together, after which Jane and Jeremy set off for home early in the evening. They wave goodbye to each other and part ways. Jeremy had an odd sense of foreboding. For some random reason, he expected that his interaction with Jane's friends would get weird, even weirder than it was supposed to be.

Wow, only a mention of Medic? Yes, I like it that way. Anyways, thank you for reading and to all those who like this. I appreciate you all so much 💝.
