I Know Its Wrong To Say This, But I Still Feel Like That Rescue From Hell Was Far Too Easy.
I know it’s wrong to say this, but I still feel like that rescue from Hell was far too easy.
Yes, it was difficult. It was scary. It was traumatic. They could have failed. They could have been destroyed. But… pretty much the only thing that tried to stop them leaving was the doll-spider monster, and they managed to outrun it and escape fairly easily. And it didn’t take Charles long to find Edwin at all.
I just keep thinking about all the trials Percy Jackson faced before he even made it to the Underworld to rescue his mom, and everything they faced once they were there. I keep thinking about the challenges Annabeth had to pass before she even made it to confront Arachne while she was following the Mark of Athena. I think about how Percy and Annabeth were in Tartarus for literally seconds before something tried to kill them, and how much danger they faced together before they finally made it out.
I know the comparison isn’t fair. Payneland isn’t Percabeth and it shouldn’t have to compete. “It’s not a contest”, as Charles would say. I guess I’m just used to something a little more epic. I have unreasonable standards for love stories.
On the other hand, there’s the internal journey to consider, the personal demons to face. We might see Edwin and Charles fighting fewer physical monsters, but there’s a lot they both need to confront before they can return to the surface world. Edwin finds Simon. Edwin addresses Despair. Edwin wrestles with the parts of himself he’s been hiding from all season and finally brings them into the light—or rather, confesses his love to the person who has always been his guiding light. Charles has been struggling all season with whether he’s a good person and wanting to protect Edwin. He hasn’t been able to talk about his feelings or open up to other people. Now, finally, he has the chance to do both. He rescues Edwin both from literal Hell and from Edwin’s personal doubt, telling him that he is loved, even if the exact shape of the love is something Charles still needs to figure out.
Really, how can I not call that an epic love story? It’s not just the monsters fought and challenges faced; it’s about trust and opening up to each other and being there for each other in the little ways as well as the dramatic ones. Love isn’t just a firebomb thrown at a spider-demon; it’s a gentle voice on the stairs, a smile on the rooftop.
Every love story is different, and there’s room in my fangirl heart for more than one.

Dead boys at the graveyard... what will they detect??

This discourse telling bi women to leave their boyfriends at home during pride is absolutely ridiculous for so many reasons, main one being is that allies are allowed to go to pride, you know that right? People have to also let go of this idea that they can 'tell' who is queer. No you can't! Plenty of trans men pass as cis men, and plenty of bi women date bi men.

By existing as a citizen in and paying taxes to the imperial core, we automatically hold complicity in imperialist oppression because we are literally footing the bill for it. That is just the basic nature of being born to privilege in systems of oppression in general. We can be disadvantaged and marginalized in every single other consideration and we still have to understand and cope with this, and ensure we leverage it as effectively as possible.
Voting abstinence/sabotage does not absolve us of our responsibility to do everything in our power to lessen harm, but it DOES show that when our personal morals aren't satisfied, we retreat into (imperialist, this time) privilege to 'wash our hands' of the situation and declare it's not our fault and it's not our problem.

One thing that makes me love Merlin more is that he’s such an all around guy— like he’s just some silly little servant, he’s the worlds most powerful sorcerer, he’s done nothing wrong, he has done everything wrong, he’s so kind and sweet, he’s absolutely batshit insane, he wouldn’t hurt a fly, he will not hesitate to put you 6 feet under!
