IMAGINE THIS: Donna is pouting/tired and you squish her face to make her feel better (Like a sad, wet bunny).

Neglected Memories

Now playing: “Family Line” by Conan Gray

Bela Dimitrescu has always been hardworking, intelligent, diligent, and so much more. She always appears as if nothing fazes her mentally and that she’s perfectly okay. Though unbeknownst to everyone else, deep down she’s hurting and struggling with the heavy burdens of her past each and every day.

It was a normal day for Bela; doing student council duties, studying for any upcoming exams in her classes, and, of course, talking to you. Though the day went by in seconds, Bela still had a lot of paperwork to do for the student council, and so she decided to bring it to her room and do it there. Of course it’s not like she minded at all since this was a normal occurrence, she is the resident workaholic for a reason.

But tonight, while she was working at her desk, her mind cruelly decided to play with her. To torment her. To make her remember and relive those memories.

....

“Mother mother! Look at what I drew for you!” A young Bela says with great enthusiasm, so excited to show her mother her creation.

Alcina, holding a very small Cassandra in her arms, gives Bela’s drawing a small glance. “That’s nice Bela.” She says, her voice just above a whisper before turning her attention back towards the almost fully asleep Cassandra.

“That’s it? You didn’t even look at it fully.” Bela whines, hoping for more praise from her mother.

“Maybe later, I’m trying to put Cassandra to sleep right now. Speaking of that, you should be getting ready for bed now.”

“Mother pleaseee look at it, I worked really hard on it. I’ll go to bed right after I promise.” Bela begs and pouts. Alcina sighs and wonders where she got the stubbornness from before taking a longer glance at the drawing.

She squinted slightly as she looked at the artwork, looking away before saying, “Hm it could be better, but good try though.” Alcina vaguely critiqued in a calm and blunt manner.

Bela’s eyes widened at the words spoken as she felt her heart ache and twist with pure sadness and disappointment. The impact of her mother’s words weighed heavy on her mind as troubling thoughts raced through her head. She wants to make her mother proud, she craves to make the person she looks up to the most proud.

Was she not good enough?

....

Bela’s shaky hand drops the pen onto the desk as she gets out of the memory. She’s in shock for a moment before she gets herself together and huffs in annoyance at the burden as she gets back to work. This is not the first time that this has happened, but she still hasn’t gotten used to it.

....

“Okay Bela, we will be back in a few hours. Watch Daniela, don’t let her out of your sight.” Alcina tells the eldest, already halfway out the door as Cassandra is practically shaking behind her with excitement to see her second play.

“Understood mother. I’ll take good care of her.” Bela says with certainty.

“Very well.” Alcina smiled in approval and nodded, turning around with her hand on the door handle to shut it.

As soon as the door closed, Bela turns around to go to her sister’s room, hoping that the sound of the door opening wouldn’t disturb her sleep and wake up the little energy-filled gremlin. When she entered the room and closed the wooden door, she sat on a small chair near the bed and kept a close eye on the young Daniela. A half hour passed and she heard the quiet sound of thunder rumbling for a few seconds. She hopes that it won’t get any louder and wake her younger sister.

Though unfortunately it started pouring down rain, resulting in loud thunder to shake the house. Bela notices Daniela starting to stir and slowly open her eyes, looking confused at the sight of her older sister in her room.

“Bela?” Daniela quietly asked, even though she already knew the answer. The auburn-haired girl sat up and rubbed the sleepiness out of her multicolored eyes.

“Yes it’s me, I’m here to keep an eye on you because mother is taking Cass out to a play.” Bela explains, voice evident with exhaustion from the amount of work that’s been put on her for the past few days.

“Aww really, again? Why does she only brings Cass and not us?” Daniela whines, hitting the blankets with her fists. She’s upset and a bit frustrated and Bela can’t blame her at all. To be entirely honest she also feels the same way, though the blonde hides those damping emotions and puts on a facade in front of her younger sister and makes it her primary goal to pay attention to Dani when her mother won’t.

….

*BANG* Bela’s hands hit the desk, leaving a small red mark behind, “Dammit, again? Another fucking flashback.” She whispers under her breath, her voice shaky. Suddenly in the midst of her frustration she remembers you, the peaceful sound of your voice, those eyes that hold so much love and passion in them. She debates whether to head to your dorm room or not, it is rather late and she doesn’t want to wake you but at the same time she needs you right now. She can’t wait until morning.

So here she is, at your doorstep, mustering up the courage to knock on the door. Taking a long deep breath and pushing the thoughts telling her that she’s a burden aside for now.

*Knock knock knock* “Hold on!” The sound of your muffled voice through the door offered solace to Bela’s heartbeat.

“May I help yo- oh Bela, come in.” You spoke, opening the door wider for the tall blonde to walk inside. You knew something was wrong, her muscles looked tense and her eyes held a desperate need of comfort and affection. You don’t know what happened but nonetheless you were determined to make your girlfriend feel better.

You shut the door and went over to Bela, who sat herself down on the sofa, looking straight through the coffee table as if it wasn’t even there. It’s obvious that whatever’s troubling her is still plaguing her mind. You place your hand on her shoulder, sitting down next to her, “Darling, what’s bothering you? Lay it all on me.” You assured, waiting patiently for her response.

“I just had some flashbacks, surprisingly I’m not used to it by now but here we are. Though today was the worst it’s ever gotten.” Bela paused before continuing, “..and I guess..I’ve reached my breaking point.” She hesitantly confessed.

You nod your head in acknowledgement, “I understand and I’m here to help get you through every single one you experience for now on.” Bela’s body tensed up a little, seemingly doubting the statement that left your lips.

Knowing that it’ll take more than that to convince her, you decided to take things a bit further to instill in her mind that you are never going to leave her side no matter what. You scoot closer to her and pull her into a firm embrace, the action made Bela freeze though it only took a couple seconds for her to melt into your touch. This feeling of warmth and comfort when she’s upset is unfamiliar but certainly not unwelcomed. She sinks into your body and wraps her arms around you tightly, her face digging into the crook of your neck.

You let her rest there for a moment, rubbing her back with one hand and the other loosely playing with her hair. After a few silent minutes you slowly pull Bela to look you in the eyes, “I’m here Bela, always, even through your darkest days I’ll still be here and I ain’t never leaving. I promise you love.” You reassured, your voice gentle but firm, firm enough to fend off Bela’s doubts.

Silence filled the room while the weight of your words settled into her mind. The warm emotions Bela was feeling were almost overwhelming, she whispered a small ‘thank you’ as she continued to hold onto you. You could sit here for hours, holding your hard working girlfriend and reassuring her as many times as she needs. As time slowly went on, the both of you relished in this comforting moment, letting the nighttime tiredness consume the both of you. She is your shield, protecting you from anything that crosses your path and you are her sword, fending off any potential threats, even if it’s her own thoughts. The both of you wouldn’t have it any other way.
