on that note, old high gallifreyan is pretty consistently shown to be composed of gibberish Greek and Latin letters, so maybe whenever the TARDIS has to translate an ancient, untranslatable language, it defaults to those because, from an English-speaking perspective, Greek and Latin are the base-level origin languages? Like in the same relationship modern gallifreyan has to old high gallifreyan? Tbh all it takes is for one (1) companion to have learned some Latin to have that fall apart but who knows. Maybe it’s just like that.

I could also get into my headcanons with how accents work, especially since I’ve been watching Peri’s first season and I’m going insane but I’ll save that for later. TARDIS translation stuff is weird, I wish they could just lay some ground rules, but when has Doctor Who ever done that?

Do you think the TARDIS translates songs? I need a companion to really like j-pop or smth and be like “DOCTOR YOUR DAMN TARDIS IS MAKING ME HEAR THE LYRICS IN ENGLISH”
