I love Chu Min-ha and I don’t know anyone on the Hospital Playlist fandom that doesn’t. She is unanimously loved! Everyone likes Min-ha’s sunny disposition and outspoken personality, there’s something about her that exudes confidence. I am thankful to Writer Lee, Shin PD and Ahn Eun Jin for giving life to such a lovable, well rounded and relatable character.

Min-ha is pure female power. She’s independent and caring, honest and smart. As a doctor she is outstanding, holding on in the most difficult times, always trying to do what is best for her patients. Thankful and relieved when they manage to go through the difficulties of child birth. She even takes care of her colleagues and their patients when she is overworked and frustrated. When it comes to responsibility, Min-ha steps forward. Even when she feels most vulnerable, Min-ha comes through for herself and others.

Another highlight of her character is her friendship with Gyeo-wool. The way they spar about anything and everything, they behave like besties and sisters. Support one another on a professional and personal level but also share harsh truths when they need to be said.

When Hospital Playlist starts, Min-ha is frustrated with Seokhyung. Naturally, she bribed Dr. Bong with coffee so he would share information about her new mentor. Min-ha not only wanted to make a good impression on his boss but also understand him. Min-ha quickly learned that Seok-hyung is a loner and, by watching him work, that he is also blunt, caring and meticulous when it comes to his patients. Soon, her interest went from professional to personal and so their romance began. Or at least she tried to get it started… more than once… but failed every time. First, when she wanted to drink coffee with Seok-hyung and saw him with a woman at the garden. Min-ha’s heart dropped but she didn’t give up and, true to her nature, asked him about it when the opportunity arise. Second try was when she directly confessed to him. It was so sudden and direct, Seok-hyung’s mind shutdown. Third and fourth times was when she asked to eat with him at his office and then again on Christmas.

Personally, I think Min-ha is the most colorful and happy of all the characters in Hospital Playlist. Not only because of her fashion sense and make up choices but because of her personality. She’s truly like autumn, exploding with all the shades of orange, yellow and red. That’s the way she behaves at work, with pure energy, and also how she chooses to interact with people. You can see this at the cafeteria scene, when all the residents are together discussing why Chi-yong left the military, and she made a point of saying they don’t talk behind people’s back. If Min-ha needs to say something, she is going to say it to your face and deal with the consequences.

But even her passive aggressive ways are cute. During the events of episode 8, where she was undoubtedly the MVP, she was so mad at Seok-kyung for ignoring the OBGYN resident drama that she gave him a hot americano. That’s the drink he hates and we know she knows it because on previous episode she had bought him his favorite coffee. His shock at the contrast of her bright smile and the wrong drink was hilarious peak marriage behavior. Message received.

At the end of this pivotal episode for Min-ha, when she goes to talk to Seok-hyung at his office, she’s carrying two drinks: a hot one for her and an ice cold americano, with a side of honesty about how she felt abandoned by him during this time of hardship. He smiled. Knowing it was good between them now and asked for her forgiveness, telling her that he’s still learning how to help those close to him. He continued on describing all the reasons why he likes her and this is, in my book, the love confession that solidified this relationship.

If Seok-hyung is like a hibernating bear, then Min-ha is a honey bear. Where Seok-hyung is subtle, Min-ha is straightforward and when she takes several steps forward, he backs down. On my Seok-hyung analysis, I mentioned how he would rather not get involved with anyone to protect them from his family’s circumstances. This was probably born out how things ended with his ex wife, which it’s why I’m glad Hospital Playlist decided to end its first season introducing this conflict. This way the second season can resume with Seok-hyung making progress on this front, grow and change his perspective. Maybe perhaps, finally, say yes to one of Min-ha’s dinner invitations… maybe with the help of Yulje’s certified Cupid? He is known to show results!

The only thing that worries me is how long will Min-ha be willing to wait if he keeps on rejecting her next season. She advised Gyeo-wool that one sided loves are no good, will she have this same attitude towards Seok-hyung? I know she will probably be disappointed before she can rejoice but I’m hoping that she will hang in there!

If she gets through this– Both she and the baby are at risk. She’s already exhausted and the baby is face-up and just won’t drop. My daughter-in law promised me that she’d give a natural birth. Doctor, let’s wait a little longer. If it really doesn’t work, she can go into surgery then. Right, that is now. We cannot wait any longer.
