Victoria took a deep breath - god, she was stressed - and entered the building. "Good morning, Miss."

"Good morning," she replied, trying to sound genuine, although she was anything but. She walked quickly to Maria's side. "Is she any better?"

"No," her sister sighed, "not at all."

The two of them looked at Alice sadly. "Oh," Victoria said, almost to herself, "what has happened to you?"

"Don't die," Maria whispered, "please don't."

It was fascinating, in a psychological sense, how the two of them regressed to an almost childlike state when faced with the possibility of losing their sister. They had already lost their mother far too young, and now this. And suddenly, Maria stood up and ran away.

"Maria! What are you thinking of?!"

She was faced with a conundrum, either follow her sister and leave Alice alone, or have Maria not there when Alice died - for that seemed an inevitability. She decided to do the latter, guilty as she felt. She stayed awake for hours, holding Alice's hand, until she died. She wasn't aware of Maria's absence, which was a small comfort. Victoria stayed there by her side for a while longer, trying not to break down in tears, before she eventually called Maria.

"Maria," she said, not even bothering with hello. "It's Alice."

Maria didn't notice her distress. "Is she better?!"

"No," she replied, her voice breaking, "no, she's dead."

Maria abruptly hung up. Victoria went to her house - in part to confront her, but mostly because she didn't want to be alone. She let herself in, and could immediately hear sobbing coming from Maria's room. She entered, and her sister looked up at her with a tear-stained face. She didn't even have the heart to argue with her. The two of them hugged eachother and wept together, in a way that made them feel both better and worse at the same time.

People born on the 1st of March in order of my favourite to least favourite:

Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg (just amazing in general)

Caroline of Brandenburg-Ansbach (nice too, but I just prefer Sophie)

Paul Hollywood (better than Prue, who to my disappointment is a conservative, but has some iffy dating history)

Justin Bieber (anti-choice and just plain annoying)

i turn around

you watch my plait as i run

and am i laughing or crying?

no one knows

not even me

i'm losing sight of life

running away from everything

you chase me

calling out as i ignore you

the world is too much

and i am too little

and soon i'll be some myth

some local legend

the girl who couldn't take it

the girl who ran away

her plait flying in the wind

the bolter.
