my mother died two years ago

and since then

i have been afraid of heartbreak in the same way

i care about people already dead

instead of people alive

parts of history

franz joseph instead of king charles

but she changed that

i had tried to make myself hate her in a way

but she seemed so kind

and i began to like her

and want to defend her from rude comments

even though she'll never read them

and i know that someday

in ten or twenty years

she will be dead

few people will care

for the "nobody wife of the forgotten son"

for the "diana clone"

for the "the irrelevant one"

for the "woman who's just not likeable"

but i shall

and i shall weep

[Sophie Chotek looks disappointed and Sophie Wessex looks quite terrified]

Archduchess Sophie: Oh, that was who the letter was from!
