A simple list for writing women
1. Do not measure/describe female characters by how fuckable they are.
2. Character description is supposed to reveal the interesting aspects of a character. Not just her boobs and legs.
3. Complexity!!! Diversity!!!
4. More than one woman. They talk to each other - about something other than a man
5. Trans women exist. LGBTQIA+ women exist. Women of colour exist. Disabled women exist. And they are just as complex.
6. Body diversity.
7. Not all women love shopping and make up and pink. But those who do are much more interesting than just that
8. Bitchiness between women exist, but there's also a lot of solidarity. Women help other women. Find a balance.
9. Periods. Pregnancy. Basic bodily functions. If you include it, understand it.
10. Subjectivity. Please stop objectifying female characters.
11. In most countries, women live in constant fear of gender-based violence and constantly fight against inequality. Understand.
Sincerely, a female writer and reader. Comment with your own tips. Come on, girls, you know you've read some horrendous things. Let's educate those who want to write better women.
