New Girl Fic Rec List

She is pretty much why I started writing fanfiction in the first place. Her fic We Could Both Be Stars inspired my first fic New Girl: Cece Edition. She not only writes Ness like most of the fandom does, but she does an excellent job of writing ensemble fics with all the characters, which is very challenging to do. I can’t just recommend one fic from her; you pretty much have to read all of them.

This author is the one that inspires me to write so many AUs. Whenever someone tries to criticize fanfiction writing for having lower quality writing than ‘real writing,’ I have to show them her works. Even if you aren’t familiar with some of the fandoms she writes for, her writing will suck you in. In Each of the Places We Meet is still probably my favorite fanfic piece out of everything I have ever read for any fandom. I think she also wrote one of the first zombie fics for the NG fandom: Gone, Gone, Baby.

Kyra

She has to be on this list for writing Heart Like a Socket, which is perfection from beginning to end. Some of her other notable works include Alabama, Arkansas (The Fairy Tales Aren’t Easy On The Feet Remix), which takes you through a timeline of Nick and Jess’s relationship together, and Your brand is: Winston!, which is probably the first fic in the fandom where Winston is a main character.

She writes a lot of great Ness fics. Her most recent fics deal with the fallout with Nick/Reagan from S5; great to read if you need to get all your *feelings* out about Ness and get yourself pumped for S6! Highlights include the currently ongoing Finding the Way Back and the NG/500 Days of Summer crossover fic 50 Days of Jess.

Mrnickmiller

When you think long, angsty, multichapter fanfic for New Girl, that’s pretty much synonymous with this author. Highlights include Strings Attached, Lifting Fog, Choices, and the ongoing Boomerang.

Other Notable Fics:

Pepperwood - The Grimwold Case by RayKay72 - If you want to write a Pepperwood fic, this fic is pretty much the model for that. This was the inspiration for my own Pepperwood fic Dark is the Night and my whole Pepperwood AU.

Ripped Tights by lolainslackss - Who doesn’t love a good high school AU? And this is a great one.

who’s gonna save us by SometimeAfterMidnight - An excellent and often overlooked future fic for Nick and Jess. Twoshot from both Jess’s and Nick’s perspective the night of “Mars Landing.”

The Beginning by TeamPepperwood - Ness relationship fic that was written during the summer hiatus following S2. Unfinished, but what is there is excellent.
