Ooh, I've been looking for a reason to draw Red. :D Sure thing! (To everyone else: I'm closing requests after this one, I have too many. XD I'll do the ones I already got, but after this one that's it for a while.)

I would have finished it sooner, but I found motivation for an animation, and I always prioritize those because my motivation for dozens of sequential drawings is more fleeting than it is for a single drawing. how does it feel being famous 😁

I don't know if I'd call myself famous, haha. XD Still, it's nice to just have a place where I can post my art, and the people seem to be pretty kind, for the most part. All in all, I ended up liking Tumblr more than I thought I would. And to think I was going to get a DeviantArt. X)

Very tired of the voltron fandom fighting. All all the bullcrap with the part of the fandom calling other ship pedofillic and insert and harassing. Ffs why the hell is it like this?

I actually might be able to answer this because I was discussing it with a friend and came across this line of thinking.

So basically, fandoms are obviously split up like book fandoms / video game fandoms / tv show fandoms / cartoon fandoms / anime fandoms / etc. Yeah? There are MANY books/video games that are popular so those fandoms are often, while busy, quieter in comparison to say TV show and Cartoon fandoms, where there are far fewer to work with.

Now, lets look specifically at cartoon fandoms. How many ongoing cartoons do you know that basically cater to all audiences, while featuring mostly plot heavy material? Your two choices, basically, are Steven Universe (which has a lot of non-plot, and also a shoddy release schedule) and Voltron. That means cartoon fans migrate often to one of these two fandoms as they are the most popular at the moment. With that, there’s a higher concentration of said fans in one fandom and more chaos. (Both SU and Voltron have notably horrific fandoms.)

Now, lets add that to the militant wish to be morally superior that exists in fandom spaces currently. This is a new trend that, 10 years ago, would be laughed at. People in fandoms nowadays (mostly younger people, or those who are newer to fandom spaces in general) are trying to be morally superior to others, and to show how “woke” they are, end up being hyper aggressive about their point of view. Older people, and especially people who have been in fandom spaces for awhile (such as myself) see this as extremely strange behavior (especially considering the content most fandoms make lol.)

Mix that all up with the ease fans have to talk to content creators and you have an absolutely massive problem with people thinking their opinion matters on content they’re not making, and that they have sole rights to the content and what goes in it. This is hilariously similar to idol worship we see in the music industry; believing you have unanimous control over a person and their content and themselves as a person. It’s creepy and weird and makes it disconcerting to content creators who simply want to tell a story.

Let’s sprinkle on top a fact about VLD: It’s not that great. It’s not an AMAZING TV show with AMAZING writing and whatnot. It has a lot of flaws and a lot of moments that make you sit there and say “Wait what? Why?” There’s a lot of character inconsistencies and muddled development amongst the characters and their relationships with each other. While plot heavy, the plot is awfully paced. Voltron itself is only a DECENT show. Like a solid 7.5/10 max. This leaves a lot of room for improvement and wishing to see more out of it. This leads to a lot of fans wanting and creating fan content. This leads to a discontent in fandom because ‘this could have been so much better!’ The problem is, because of how easy it is to talk to content creators, people these days don’t know how to just stay in their lane and make fan content that appeals to their headcanon wishes and would rather attack and belittle the showrunners over nothing at all.

Now, this isn’t to say it’s bad to be critical of content or feel uncomfortable with problematic content being explored. This isn’t to say you SHOULDN’T talk about these things. There’s just no reason to ATTACK someone for it. Like, chill out a little. Let people explore concepts they want to talk about. The idea of having the morally superior and overall better content just turns into cringe culture for most people, and your search to find the most pure, unproblematic content will turn sour when you realize it doesn’t exist and never will exist. You will never be able to write it either without being entirely offensive and shitty yourself. It’s just not possible.
