Miss Emi! I Dont Believe You Got My Ask Unless You Just Didnt Want To Answer It, But In Any Case; Id

miss emi! i dont believe you got my ask unless you just didnt want to answer it, but in any case; id like to ask how you print your uhhhh well prints? i made a poster for my friend on sai and id like to print it for her but idk if i can print using my normal printer? when youre not mass producing prints like for a con do you still go to a print shop? also if you were to create a poster on the larger side what size would you make the canvas? sorry for all the questions im an amateur nd thank :U

heyoooo i prefer most of these questions to be answered privately so that’s prob why i missed it… but either way i make the canvas 300dpi of whatever print size i want! 8.5x11in is standard for a normal home printer but if u want anything bigger (11x17) you can go to a staples. i really like the chain minuteman press too but that’s more for mass production. if it’s just one print i think staples will be fine!

Today I Gave My Students A Quick Presentation On Some Of The Basic Considerations For Composition, Which

Today I gave my students a quick presentation on some of the basic considerations for composition, which I am now sharing with you! I’ve given them separate talks about color and tonal value/contrast, which are also super important compositional concerns. (I’ll be sharing those presentations too once I properly format them)

I personally love learning about different compositional techniques. It’s fun to think about the ways that the brain views & sorts images, and how we can trick it into feeling a certain way or looking at certain aspects of an image first! It’s easy to fall into compositional ruts (which I am also guilty of) because a lot of art gets by with mediocre, though serviceable, compositions. If you can generally understand what’s happening in an image then it’s generally fine. However, it’s the truly great compositions, where everything in the whole image has been considered and ‘clicks’ together, that bump up an illustration to a visual slam dunk. NC Wyeth is one of my favorite artists for this reason: his compositions are rock solid, varied based on the image’s intent, and always enhance the mood or action he is depicting.

For extra reading, some online compositional resources that I’ve found helpful or interesting include: Creative Illustration by Andrew Loomis (download it for FREE. Such a great book all-around.) Gurney Journey (check out the “Composition” tag, but really everything he posts is great) The Schweitzer guide to spotting tangents Cinemosaic (a blog by Lou Romano with some truly WONDERFUL compositions captured from various films) Where to Put the Cow by Anita Griffin

Happy composition-ing!

TIPS FOR DEEP CLEANING YOUR VERY DIRTY HOUSE/ROOM/APARTMENT WHEN YOU REALLY DON'T FUCKING WANT TO

Having a clean space is very good for your state of mind and helps you feel comfortable, calm, responsible, organized, and productive. Cleaning the space you spend most of your time in is a great coping mechanism when the mind feels cluttered or anxious, and cleaning is also good, constructive, and healthy physical and mental activity.

wake up early

put on old, comfy clothes (soft shorts and a tank top are the best) and put your hair up in a bun

drink caffeinated beverage(s)

put on loud and funny cleaning montage music (if you go on Spotify and find “1000 Miles” by the Proclaimers then right click and choose “Play Radio” there you FUCKING GO BABY)

open all your windows/ pull up all the blinds

apply cleaners that need time to sit (toilet cleaner in toilet bowl, plug up bathtub and pour in a couple of cups of bleach then fill with hot water, turn oven on 200 and let preheat before turning off and spraying oven cleaner, spray carpet cleaner on big stains)

pick up ALL THE TRASH FIRST and all the grossest/stinkiest things you can find (old shit in the refrigerator, cat litter box, pizza boxes, piles of junk mail/papers, empty bottles) and put it all in trash bags and set it outside the door, you will immediately notice results which will motivate you to keep going

pick up ALL THE DISHES SECOND and put them in the sink or in the kitchen (put all utensils in a big pot filled with soap and hot water and let them soak while you continue, also stacking plates together and putting cups/bowls together will make washing dishes seem MUCH faster)

pick up ALL THE CLOTHES/SHOES THIRD and put them in consolidated piles out of the way or on top of chairs

dust everything from the TOP to the BOTTOM

wipe down all surfaces (magic erasers are amazing on walls/counters/sinks, dryer sheets get grease off of kitchen walls/stovetops/counters, those scrubby dish wands work AMAZING on sticky/gunky stuff anywhere)

wash the dishes, dry them, put them away

clean fridge/microwave with windex, scrubby sponge, paper towels (easily clean microwave by putting a wet rag in there and microwaving for two minutes. let it sit in there, be careful because it will be hot. wring it out, wipe sides and top of microwave with it, the moisture will loosen the gunk)

put newspaper/butcher paper under your oven door, turn it off, spray with oven cleaner, close door and let sit for 20 minutes then scrub while wearing gloves

scrub out toilet, bathtub, sinks, shower, then windex mirrors throughout the space

shake out rugs onto floors

sweep/mop and vacuum floors/rugs

organize dirty/clean clothes, cabinets, drawers, etc

take the trash out

OTHER MISC TIPS:

put up/take down some things on the walls to make your space feel new and beautiful

reduce clutter by purchasing organizational storage

make a pile of junk you don’t need and donate to a thrift store or throw it away

take a break every hour or so, but don’t sit down or get on the computer… you won’t want to get back up. instead, dance with your cat to 80s music, sing into your broom while looking at the mirror, make yourself laugh, drink some ice cold water or tea, and always during your break:stop and assess your work. check your progress. notice how much better it looks already. realize it is better because of you. feel proud. keep going. :)

PS: I’m doing this RIGHT NOW, and I’ve been putting it off for weeks. It’s making me feel great, and it’s not nearly as hard or horrible as I thought it would be. Be clean and happy! I love you.
