I Know!! Like I Can't Help But Think Of Nine When I Hear The Soundtrack.
I know!! Like I can't help but think of Nine when I hear the soundtrack.
ESPECIALLY the song 'What we could've been' just screams the entire relationship between Sonic and Nine. Sonic loves TAILS, but he can't genuinely love Nine for who he is as a person, to Sonic, Nine is just a variant of his baby brother. So Sonic doesn't love 'who Nine is'. When Sonic rejected Nine's offer, he 'broke Nine and left these pieces' when Nine finally opened up to him. Nine clearly dreams of 'what could've been'.
There's just so much I want to say about this-!
Hhhh I'm listening to Arcane soundtrack again after a while and all of the songs just give me massive New Yoke and Nine vibes, like I'm being tormented by so many visions rn none of you can comprehend

Mr. Archive Guy, back again with another writing prompt idea!
This basic idea’s kind of simple, but all things considered, I think it’s one you’ll get a REAL kick out of writing, Bluebunnyears.
I call it: “See Ya, Buddy.”
So it’s that fateful moment in Episode 2 where Sonic is about to be killed by the Chaos Council’s machine. The hedgehog looks over sadly at Nine and says what could’ve been his real last words: “See Ya, Buddy.”
What I’d like you to write is Nine’s POV narrative of THAT MOMENT. What specific feelings came into Nine’s heart when he thought Sonic was about to be killed? What specific thoughts played through his mind when Sonic the Hedgehog’s presence in his life took on a whole new level of significance and worth? (And don't be afraid to go into detail!)
Narrating that part of Episode 2 entirely from Nine’s POV, start from a point shortly before Sonic says the words “See You, Buddy”, and end at the point where Nine frees Sonic and says, “Okay, hedgehog, you’re up!”
Have fun! (As always, I’m really looking forward to seeing this one on “Archive Of Our Own!”)
Hello again! I've actually been wanting to see what Nine's perspective of this was, and I have a couple of ideas in my head.
And thank you! I will have fun!
================================================
This was it.
It was over for both of them. Nine's shackles felt heavier at the thought, and he could practically feel the electricity from the stun guns latch onto his fur and bring more pain. But he was more focused on the struggling blue hedgehog in front of him, held by electric pulses of shackles of his own, the red beam of the energy extractor getting closer and closer.
Sonic was beginning to panic even more as it did so, having been rudely cut off by those monsters. The machine was getting closer, ready to cut the urchin's life short just to give more power to cruel dictators, and Nine couldn't look away.
He didn't know why, this was an awful thing, nobody would want to watch someone die like that, but he couldn't look away even knowing that it was a twisted curiosity of his own and a sense of hypnosis, one he couldn't break.
The hedgehog was going on and on about his "friends", thanking random people, but it didn't matter to the dictators.
They just wanted power.
The beam was set up now, and Sonic's face fell with dread, and Nine felt a strange feeling wash over him. Something uncomfortable and somewhat panicked and sad, something he didn't know what to call it.
Guilt? He had nothing to be guilty about, they were captured because the blue idiot decided to go out from cover. And he didn't have any reason to be ashamed.
Maybe it was fear, not for the hedgehog, he hardly knew him, but it was that he was going to be next on the chopping block.
Sonic suddenly turned to him, eyes filled with panic and sadness, but also some kind of concern.
That's when the blue blur spoke his true last words, words Nine never expected.
Words Nine never thought he'd ever hear.
"See ya, buddy."
And everything went in slow motion.
Nine felt that horrible feeling come over tenfold, his jaw-dropping. That wasn't what he was expecting. He was expecting pleas for help or mercy, not a silent admission of his incoming death alongside such an affectionate term.
'Buddy'
Nobody's ever called him that before. Nobody's ever treated him with such kindness before. Nobody's ever touched him with a caring and soft touch, it was more kicks, hits, and pulling. Nobody's ever looked at him with anything other than disgust or unexplained hate.
No...
This hedgehog told him of another life he could've had.
No...
This hedgehog gave him warmth and care, things he craved more than anything. Who can give him that, now it was going to end?
No!
There was a sudden movement, and the extractor was quickly turned away. Nine felt a sense of relief, looking up to see one of the resistance leaders, a bat.
The Council and hunk of metal were distracted by the fight, so Nine took his chance. He got to the computer and put his skills to the easy test, getting those cuffs off.
His eye caught the sight of the now rolling wheel that the hedgehog was stuck in, so he directed his attention to freeing the now dazed hedgehog.
Once he did, he called out to the urchin now trying to stand.
"Okay hedgehog, you're up!"
Why New Yolk Is NOT Nine's World And How We Were Wrong About Nine
Ok, I'm back!!!
I'm feeling a little better and I want my mind off some things so here I am! And my first order of business is to address a certain belief that I've been tired of seeing around here.
There's a belief that New Yolk is Nine's world or centered around Nine, but I strongly disagree. Nine's world ISN'T New Yolk, nor is it about or centered around Nine, not in the way you think.
The Grim is Nine's world.
My reasoning?
First, let's look at the color scheme.

New Yolk has very strong themes of red and shaded hues, the only lights being from electronics. Red is the most prominent theme, which is Eggman's main color, and there is no other color to be found, showing it's only his dream and his idea of a perfect world, and nobody finds this world to be paradise, not to mention they are actively fighting back.
Now let's look at the Grim.

It is a very different color scheme. Instead of harsh, strong hues of shades and red, it has a soft lighting of blue and orange. Orange is Tail's main color, but it's not all there is. In fact, there's only one shade of deep orange sandy desserts that seemingly goes on forever, but the blue above has multiple shades; dark blue, baby blue, turquoise, sky blue, and midnight blue at the top, dotted with multiple white stars. There are small silver crystals, seven present on the screen, which I think it's obvious what that represents.
This is Nine's world because it fits his ideals of a perfect world. One where it's just him and Sonic, and the Grim reflects that extremely well, having no buildings, no plants, no water, just nothing but the two of them, together.
Stating that New Yolk is Nine's world because there are machines and he lives there and is centered around him because he's the most we see from and in New York is completely overlooking his entire character in general.
Nine deviates from the other variants due to his views on the world he resides in and his goals. While Thorn, Dread, and the Egg Council all strive to protect or are relatively happy in their respective worlds, Nine could care less about New Yolk when given the chance, not to mention he was nothing but miserable there.
Thorn, Dread, and the Council all want something within or based around their worlds, Nine goes out to find a new one, traveling the Shatterverse to find a new home.
While the others wanted something unnecessary or unimportant, Thorn wanted to protect a jungle that didn't need to be protected, Dread wanted the shard out of greed, and the Council wants power and control, Nine wants something understandable: A home.
Some people say it's Nine's world because he gets to use his mechanical skills better, but did he want that or use those skills for fun or sport? No. He used it for survival against the harsh dystopian world he lived in.
Now let's go onto the next topic, the belief that New Yolk is centered around Nine.

And I very strongly disagree.
New Yolk is not centered around or mainly focused on Tails. Now hear me out, he may be the most we've seen screentime in New Yolk but that doesn't mean he's the focus of it.
I have multiple explanations for this. My first one is that each main Shattered focus is the main conflict of their world, AND has the results of their own actions affecting others and the world.
The Egg Council built a dystopian world where they are in control, Thorn has a Jungle that she thrives to protect, and Dread is the captain of a loyal crew. But New Yolk is a dystopian world where only the Council are happy, everyone else is jaded, miserable, and depressed, Thorn was fiercely protective of the jungle, but in her extreme ways, lost her friends, brandishing herself as a monster, and Dread a captain who never cared for his crewmates, making his old ones his enemies, and merely using his new ones, all for a shard.
The Grim hasn't affected anyone, yet. I think they're saving that exclusively for SONIC AND NINE.
Another thing is that each main focus in the Shatterspace of their originals' main ideals is the main conflict. New Yolk is Eggman, Boscage Maze is Amy, and No Place is Knuckles. It's clear Nine is going to be the main conflict in the Grim, which we have yet to see alongside Rouge's world.
Not to mention, the other variants loved or seemed fine with their worlds, but Nine hated his. AND what the other variants want is attainable and they can find peace and redemption without the unnecessary things they want, but because of what NINE wants, he CAN'T and what he wants is what he CANT TRULY HAVE. And before you might mention how if Nine is a shard of Tails then he'll still attain it, but no, not really. That's still Tails, Nine is dead, nothing but a trait once more no matter how you look at it.
Most importantly, what Nine wants is to be WITH Sonic, while the other variants didn't care about the hedgehog, either attacking him or using him in the end. Unlike them, Nine cares immensely for Sonic after getting firmly attatched, and even after he got captured he STILL SHOWS CARE FOR HIS WELLBEING.
Now I know some of you are stating that Nine is the main relationship focus of New York, and I can't agree with that, but that doesn't mean Sonic's relationship is centered around Nine in JUST New Yolk. My thought?
Nine and Sonic's relationship is anywhere. Not just in New York, it's in the Grim too, and in the void. It's EVERYWHERE.
People forget that Nine is the ONLY varient who figured out how to use the crystals, and it was presumably to FIND SONIC. Unlike Rusty who went under the Councils orders, Nine CHOOSE to do so. He choose to go into the great unknown to find his friend.
Another thing. Rebel said Sonic was gone for WEEKS, making her and Knucks believe that Sonic ditched them. But Nine did not react the same way, which on means one thing:
NINE NEVER GAVE UP ON SONIC.
He spent WEEKS building a mobile just to find Sonic, he spent WEEKS on his own with faith in the only person who gave him kindness, he showed nothing but undying loyalty and faith that Sonic was alive. Which denies another theory that Nine isn't loyal. Sure, not to the others, but to Sonic, it's rooted permanently.
WE WERE WRONG ABOUT WHAT NINE REPRESENTED.
Nine isn't Tails's need for emotional support. That's just one of the things that come with what he truly represents.
It's because of what he is that he's morally ambiguous.
Nine is TRAUMA, Nine is SELFISHNESS, Nine is PAIN, Nine is UNBREAKABLE LOYALTY, Nine is FAITH AND CARE, Nine is INDEPENDENT but EMOTIONALLY CO-DEPENDENT at the same time, Nine is AGONY but also SWEET EUPHORIA.
Nine is HELL but also PARADISE.
Nine is LOVE.
And What Takes Place Out of Love Lies Between GOOD And EVIL.
And the Grim, the creepily beautiful, the empty but still enough Grim, his TRUE WORLD, reflects this PERFECTLY.
Exactly! 😭
Hhhh I'm listening to Arcane soundtrack again after a while and all of the songs just give me massive New Yoke and Nine vibes, like I'm being tormented by so many visions rn none of you can comprehend
I Just Realized-
Guys, I just realized that the Grim scene is a dark parallel to Sonic talking to Nine on the subway.

One of them approaches the other with their idea of a perfect world. Sonic is happy and has his chest uncovered, simply stating their adventures, while Nine has his hand over his chest speaking from the heart. Nine in the first one is curious, but Sonic in the second one is saddened.

Hand on the shoulder. Both of them do that out of excitement and some reassurance. Nine smiles while Sonic frowns.

Both then turn away from the other, lost in their own thoughts and beliefs. Sonic is ecstatic and lost in nostalgia and joy, whereas Nine is firm and grim in his loner beliefs.
Another thing! Look at the color pallet difference in these two scenes.

The surroundings on the subway are jaded and tinged with a cold icy blue, even Nine's orange is jaded, his outfit dark and grim. However, Sonic is bright and colorful, having a warm, calming blue, brighter than everything around him.

In the Grim, everything around is colorful and warm. The light blues and vibrant orange evoke a sense of welcome and a sense of joy. However, Nine is grey and dark, the grim and mourning black, silvers, and greys contrasting his calm and warm surroundings.
I have SO Much to say about this! HYGDPWJDOSWSJKDNwijdoegk
Story Prompt Request: "The Sixth Egg"
Another story prompt was given to me by "Mr. Archive Guy"!
===============================================
As long as everyone in New Yolk knew, there were only five members of the Council. There was Doctor Babble, the baby of the group, literally, Doctor Don't the grumpy teen, Doctor Done-it, the frail old man, Doctor Deep, the middle man, and Mr. Doctor Eggman, the leader.
But recently, the Council found itself considering another member. This person they had in mind was no other than the fox they had recently captured. They originally ignored him, shocking him when he opened his mouth. But the fox had offered them schemes, better ideas than their own, and while it was a harsh rub on their ego, they couldn't deny that these ideas were better than their own.
Recently, the fox had actually criticized their security system, so they sent him back, rejecting his ideas to improve it. They found it odd he offered ideas to improve the place he was held captive in, but eventually, they caved. They called the fox in and asked him to give his ideas.
Unsurprisingly, these ideas were better than the Council's original design. So they set these new ideas in place, and they found massive improvements.
It went on like that, the fox working and helping the Council. Eventually, he became present even more, joining them for mealtime, and conversing alongside them in scheming on how to take down the rebellion once and for all, providing incredibly dastardly ideas.
Then they decided to make it official, and everything changed.
There were six members of the Council. Doctor Babble, the literal baby of the group, Doctor Don't, the grumpy teen, Doctor Done-it, the frail old man, Doctor Deep, the middle man, Mister Doctor Eggman, the leader, and the final and newest addition of the team, Doctor Nine, the brains of the group.
================================================
The rebels laid before the Council. There was the bat and the echidna, who cursed out the fox, and then there was the one Nine truly kept his eyes on; the bright blue hedgehog looking at him with a deeply confused and betrayed expression.
Only one word spilled out of his mouth, his voice filled with pain and genuine disbelief.
"...why...?"
The Council laughed before Nine could answer. They mocked the hedgehog, calling him an idiot, and questioning who would ever be friends with him.
Nine's hands curled into fists.
They called the hedgehog weak and pathetic, stating that he would never win.
Nine's teeth clenched.
They mocked Sonic about Nine's supposed betrayal, stating how the hedgehog will forever be alone, and there was nothing the hedgehog could do about it. At the last one, the hedgehog's face contorted into one of utter despair, and worse, those green eyes became glossy.
Nine shook in rage.
Alright, that was enough of that.
Nine's yell surprised everyone as he hopped off of his hover chair.
"Execute Operation Chillidog!"
The other Council's chairs malfunctioned before clattering to the ground, sending the users tumbling onto the ground in shock. The handcuffs of the rebels and Sonic deactivated and fell to the ground as well. The rebel's faces were ones of shock, but Sonic's face was one of pure joy. A sight that made Nine's heart melt.
Turning back to the Council to find the robots that Nine improved pointing their blasters at them. They looked utterly helpless, utterly betrayed, Nine realized joyfully.
They were shaking.
"Aw, come on, you didn't really think I was on your side, did you? It was totally worth it to see this!", Nine mocked gleefully, "Come on, stop shaking, stop looking at me like that. If any of you had any brain cells you would've realized it was too good to be true."
Nine turned to Doctor Done-it, who was staring back at him with sheer rage, yet subtle hurt. He leaned in close to his face, smiling at him.
He commented on something he remembered and found funny.
"Guess you were right Doc.", when the old man's face changed into one of confusion, Nine giggled, "I guess I was a weasel after all!"
