Illuminae Books 2 And 3

Illuminae books 2 and 3

I have now read both book 2 and 3 of the Illuminae files and I am disappointed. Book one was so much better, maybe I just got over there need to put a death twist. In all three books some one is thought to have died but is then later revealed to not be dead you can basically look and see who will die with in the first 100 pages. In book one it made sense to me why the boys death was lied about but in book two the death of one of the main characters is so earnest. (Spoiler) the main boy and girl are being chased by a person and the girl drops her real paper note book and the boy leaps to keep it as he knows she love to draw and she is important to him and by doing this he is shot 3 times and all throughout the book we see this blood stain get bigger and bigger as we get closer to the scene. Right after the girl must fight the person chasing them and her thoughts are great she knows he is dieing right next to her and must fight to make it to save the day. This hole scene is then thrown in the trash when we learn that the boy is not dead but is in another dimension and is alive. God I hate this, how could you do this to such a good part of the book. Book 3 is just not worth the time to read just read book one of you what to read book 2 but stop thare. I hope to read more good books I have some on the way.

the leaving

this is a tame book. nun of the formatting is something you have not seen before if you are into strangely formatted books but what it does do well is its use of its formatting. the basic plot of the book is that 6 kids go missing and 5 come back 11 years latter with no memory of the past but with knowledge and skill. we only follow 2 of the 5 kids that come back and the sister of the boy that did not come back. at first i was not a fan of not following all 5 but it makes sense not to as that much wound be to much to track. their is a part when Lucas shakes the hand of a brain scientist and does not what to let go and the first thing that hit me was oh this is going to have a gay sub plot but i was wrong he is just so lonely. the only parts of the book that use strange formatting is when we follow the the kids that came back their names are Lucas and Scarlett. lucas formatting has what reminds me of the life eqashon in the mister mirical comic whare it fills the pannel with darkside is, like a intrusive thoute. scarletts formatting is more like house of leaves ware the words shape to what is going on. i relly liked it. thare are certen parts that i do not like, i am not a big fan of romance but this does it pretty well.

over all i think it is a solid 8/10 its worth your time if you like the idea of exploreing the idea of memory and human canexons

i have typed the word book so much it does not look like a real word

Unseen

There are some great magic ideas that you could do more with. If the creators of this show said they are making narrative podcasts off of this world it would fly to the top of my to do list. This show, stories, podcast? I am going to call it a show. This show has a wide variety of magic from several fantasy races, stores, and folks. Each episode is about 40 to 50 minutes and at no point did I think that my time was wasted. There are episodes that shine brighter than the rest but all of them can stand on their own. Each episode is voiced by one person similar to the magnus archives but if i am remembering correctly it is only ever that one person. Some are spoken letters, others are a person talking to another but i don't think we hear them. The first episode never ending circles I think shows the ideas of the show in spades. Go listen to this podcast. I give it an A rank

S.

This book is very good in bringing in the idea of writing in the margins as a way to bring information to the reader and does it in a very good way. It reminds me of text in the margins of text books with little tidbits of info. What immediately jumped out to me was the sevilre different ink colors of the two college students. Thare banter (funny brit word) is very entertaining in a group chat kind of way, it reminds me of working with my school friends on a video project. The horror aspects of the book work a bit better as i am a big fan of body horror, it never made me scared or fearing for the main character. I think that is because we know nothing about the main character. There are two main draws to this book or interest points,

house of leaves

House of leaves is the book you point to when talking of ergodic books as it does in a very easy way to see. It is very hard to read if it is the first ergodic book you read as I did, certain times are so out of left field that I just started skipping johnny's writings and focused mainly on the Navidson record. But all the things that made this book difficult to read was what made me want to read this book more, words climbing up the page both literally and figuratively, the way colored text is used. Some of the best parts of the book are when the Navidson record took more of a back seat. That part is when Karen Green takes the stage as the main character, before this she is left to the wayside as Will Navidson (navy) is the eyes we see through for most of the book. It is a good change of pace to see what she sees after he is eatan my the house. Showing the world around the house by showing what the folks that navy knows think about what he has recorded. Parts of this book feel like I am watching a movie, maybe it is because of my love for the background of movies but it just spoke to me.

At the end of the day it is a good book but it should not be the first ergodic book you read.

on top of hoopers hill

Press kits are so useful and I love digging through them to see who I have seen before on other podcasts or if I have seen other works they have had a hand in making. Made by John E Allis and Ashley Rose Wellman and from my very little research this seems to be thare only podcast and they did a great job, both of the creators have a very wide variety of things under their belt. A homeless man documents the changes of the small town as what I can asom is something like the men in black that he works for trys to stop it and it sprinkled with folk songs sung by John E Allis. The songs are fairly good and if you want to listen to them you can find them on band camp. Like unknown 9 this podcast is part of something bigger and it is called the weather font project. On top of hoopers hill is part 3 and part 4 is in the pre-production stage part 1 you can read or listen to but part 2 seems to have some release issues. This is a five out of five this is a need to listen to if you like strange things
