she’s interrogated by the police and by her parents, begging her to tell them if she knew anything about zero day. she’s regarded as a criminal and traitor by her friends. she’s not even invited to greg’s funeral. when she calls any of her friends, the call is ignored; she’s basically been blocked. all she does is stay in her room and visit cal’s house.

it took a bit of convincing for her parents to let her go to the gabriel house, but the therapist she started going to recommends it. she helps his parents sort out his clothes, sleeps in his bed, and comforts his younger siblings.

when graduation ultimately rolls around, having been postponed due to the actions of the army of two, rachel is barely cheered for. she walks across the stage, only hearing the voices of her parents after her name is announced.

a lot of us have pointed out how andre kisses to the camera after the boys say “let the countdown begin!” imagine if that’s andre teasing the people watching the tapes, hinting at his and cal’s actions off camera.

they’d set off a bottle rocket and watch as it flew over the water. the water lit up and looked like a true piece of art. cal wasn’t too concerned about that piece of art though.

he’s staring at andre and how he’s smiling. he’s watching how andre’s eyes almost completely shut and his nose crinkles. his eyes stop at andre’s mouth, where his thin lips line a toothy grin that displays his pride in his firework. the smile disappears suddenly.

“did you not like it, cal?”

“what?”

“you look a little out of it. if you want to stop, we can. i think we got enough footage.”

cal shakes his head. he didn’t notice that andre had glanced over at him and how obvious he was. “no, that’s not it.

“what is it?”

andre genuinely is worried. his eyebrows knot together. he looks adorable, cal thinks. even in the dark, the beauty of the boy in front of him shines.

“can i kiss you?”

andre laughs. “what?”

“you heard me, andre.” cal swivels on his feet and runs his hands through his hair. “i’m not saying it again.”

“cal, look at me.”

he does. he’ll always do what andre asks of him. when he looks at andre, they’re standing a lot closer than he remembers. andre must’ve stepped closer when cal wasn’t looking.

“do it.” andre spots the confused look on cal’s face. “kiss me, fuckwad.”

once again, cal does what andre tells him to. he’s never been happier. even if the camera doesn’t capture this moment, cal knows it’ll forever be immortalized, even after zero day when both boys are gone.
