In Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time, Switching From Mario And Luigi To Baby Mario And Baby Luigi On A

In Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, switching from Mario and Luigi to Baby Mario and Baby Luigi on a certain frame after Mario touches spikes will make Mario invulnerable to spikes after switching back (note Mario walking across spikes as though they were regular ground). This allows Mario to cross fields of spikes and activate shortcuts, skipping some segments of the game.

Top: in Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story (shown here in the 3DS remake), Bowser cannot normally go inside himself. While pipes exist in the overworld that allow Bowser’s body to be entered from outside, all of them are inaccessible when playing as Bowser. However, by modifying the game’s code, it is possible for Bowser to enter his own body and walk around, although he cannot progress very far through any areas due to his inability to jump.

Bottom: interestingly, whenever Bowser is inside himself, Mario and Luigi are transported to an otherwise inaccessible area: Bowser’s bedroom. Bowser’s bedroom is only ever seen in the game’s ending cutscene, and cannot be reached during gameplay. It appears that the bedroom’s internal ID is 0, so that Mario and Luigi are sent there as a failsafe when Bowser is in an invalid location (in his own body).
