People are not their governments, the leaders who want peace and reconciliation and coexistence between people get killed, imprisoned, or silenced. This leaves the majority of people who may agree with those movement’s leaders to be silenced as well. This leads to no strong opposition supporting peace, reconciliation, and coexistence. And the opposition that remains is completely marginalized.

Learning that HW Bush was one of the most Pro Palestine presidents along with Clinton is such a paradigm shift. His son of course abandoned that and then Obama sort of renewed some relations with Palestine but Trump and Netanyahu completely shifted the paradigm.

What a weird coalition. Israel and Libya on the same side. I wonder if Israel’s Labor PM at the time was maybe a bit sympathetic to MAS as a “fellow socialist” possibly. US supporting the government while also supporting protesters seems like “we’re arming the Bolivian military but also keeping contact with protesters to look good and build a potential alliance. Play both sides so we come out on top.”
