MISCELLANEOUS SENTENCE PROMPTS* collection #12
★ — It wasn't like he'd been in town for a long time. Was just supposed to go to the cafe on the corner ( with Michael's knowledge, thank you very much ) to get a hot chocolate and come back, enough to keep him from going stir crazy with nowhere to go between their little apartment and school.
But then he saw the newspaper, sitting by the door.
The very same paper thats currently sitting on their coffee table in front of Michael ( unceremoniously thrown down in front of him with an accompanying panicked look ), with a bold lettered headline that reads ' MISSING CHILDREN ACROSS HURRICANE '. Among the crowd of nine children present on the front page is Gregory's face, crystal clear, deemed the latest in the string of disappearances. Which had almost been true, but definitely wasn't now.
Rather than responding normally — coherently —, Gregory sinks to his knees with an unnecessarily loud whine. He pulls his limbs into a tight ball, resting his forehead atop his knees ( almost as if if he were to just close his eyes long enough, the offending newspaper will disappear from existence like a bad dream ). And then because that isn't nearly dramatic enough, he just kinda ... flops onto his side. On the floor. Laying there. Like he's dying. Another whine, this one not as loud but certainly just as over the top in tone.
"Everything's bad news all of the time."
sometimes I’m like yeah I worked with kids I know how kids can act and then I remember I worked with kids while I was in the literal circus and the ten year old I was closest to walked a tightrope and rode a unicycle while juggling and is maybe an outlier in ten year old behavior
★ — However kind the hand they may extend, Gregory can't help but feel out of place with the family he's found himself pulled into ; they're the kind of thing that's beautiful from a distance, but delicate, an antique glass set teetering on the edge of a table, a breath away from crumbling to sharp pieces. And he doesn't match. Not when he's already all sharp edges, barely held together ( barely worth considering — everyone seems to think they can fix him until they realize he's far more trouble than he's worth ). Elizabeth's question is .... a bit unsettling, sure, but it's far from the first time he's been asked that. It's long sense stopped feeling like an open wound, even if it still aches from time to time.
"Dunno about my dad — I never met him. I don't think my mom talked to him. But .... she — uh, my mom, I mean — she died. It's been a few years."

@braveburned \ gregory : asked for elizabeth !
she remembers when she was that young , that impressionable . it's when her innocence was taken . though she's not as jaded as gregory . the boy who looks upon the world &* sees everything it has to offer &* spits in it's face because it's offered to everyone but him. even if michael &* her aren't on amazing terms , she &* her mother are . letting her get close to the boy . thinking of him as a younger brother , even if she wouldn't say it out loud . or well , closer . ‘ where's your mom &* dad anyway ? ’ something she was advised not to ask ever , but this was elizabeth . the princess of the house who was spoiled to no end thanks to her father when he was around . it isn't as though she is looking to be rude . just making conversation . she thinks not of the consequences that could come from her question .
