One might think that in his desperation to be cared for he might learn to keep that attitude in check, but if anything its only gotten worse. It's a terrible habit — the way he pushes people away, responds callously to any attempts to get to know him.

despite  how  she  was  raised  ,   despite  all  of  the  hardships  she  came  to  face  dealing  with  the  fall  out  of  what  happened  to  her  as  a  child  elizabeth  has  some  empathy  .   there  isn't  an  afton  who  isn't  damaged  .   she  wonders  if  he  could  see  it  in  michael  when  they're  together  .   though  ,   wait  until  that  volatility  of  his  comes  to  blow  ,  elizabeth  in  more  than  one  way  is  a  daddy's  girl  even  if  it's  latent  .   the  manipulation  that  william  thrusted  upon  her  still  being  very  fresh  in  her  mind  despite  his  being  long  gone  .   she'll  show  him  she's  not  one  that  you  mess  with  .   but  for  now  ,   she's  still  pretty  flippant  about  how  she  talks  about  everything  .   in  fact  coming  up  to  shrug  .    ‘  okay  well  ,  i'm  not  going  to  do  that  to  you  .  ’    for  a  second  she  would've  said  she  didn't  consider  him  a  friend  but  out  of  respect  she  wouldn't  have  treated  him  like  porcelain  like  others  do  .   but  she  doesn't  even  know  if  that's  true  .   they  are  definitely  not  friends  ,   but  she  doesn't  want  to  close  that  door  .

this is entirely irl related I just need to yell into the void for a second and this is genuinely the only place I can but I want to scream and cry and throw a fit like a toddler because knowing something is for the best and needs to happen for your own sake is one thing but actually wanting to do it is another and I Do Not Want To! it sucks! ★ — The sudden question causes Gregory to freeze — a deer in the headlights. Veins feel as though ice is suddenly coursing through them, heart lurching into his throat, overcome with a vague panic that he forces himself to swallow down.

He's come to hate being singled out by an adult in his own time, would much rather be left entirely alone than the punishments he almost never deserves that he's come to associate those moments with. Here, in this now, it feels far more dangerous than it ever has before. He's out of place ( out of his own time ), and all it would take is one person to pay him more than a sparing glance, to actually pay attention to him to grow suspicious.

"Its ——. I- I just found it."

Imperceptible wince as he speaks ( he can feel his throat starting to close up, struggling to force the words out ), but he pushes himself to keep going. To keep up the act.

"Is, uh — is something wrong?"
