If Gregory had it his way, he'd still be huddled under the covers in his bed at the apartment ; not quite sleeping ( still can't find enough peace to do so with any sort of regularity ), but blocking off the outside world, creating a small pocket of safety and comfort for himself ( in the safe space that michael built for the two of them ). The very same thing he's been doing for days now, since Michael and Cassie had gotten him out.

But Michael is still insistent on providing Gregory with some sense of a normal childhood, and unfortunately for him, that means going to school — however badly he doesn't want to.

He hadn't even wanted to go before he'd been thrown into the ruins. Now, he knows all the attention will be on him, the other students will have questions, and he doesn't want to answer them. Just wants to be allowed to disappear into the background of it all.

Michael takes hold of his hand and Gregory knows — he knows that if at any point it's too much, he can't handle it all, Michael will come get him without complaint. He won't be mad. That knowledge alone is enough to bite back any of his whines and arguments. Besides, he knows the longer he puts off reintegrating himself the harder it will be ; the longer he's away the more eyes he'll have on him upon his return. Might as well get it over with, before he withers away beneath his covers.

( michael's trying, for gregory. he's doing the best he can to give him what he needs. gregory can at least try for michael. he hasn't been doing that much before now ).

The hand holding his squeezes gently — a point of reassurance, and it's all Gregory needs to steel his nerves. ( his guardian has no idea how much his small action of support actually helps ). He squeezes back, taking in a deep breath.

"Okay .... let's get this over with, I guess."
