★ — His heart is pounding, fear and adrenaline rushing through his veins as he stares wide - eyed at the stranger in front of him, flashlight held in outstretched arms that point it like a weapon, illuminating the man in a weak halo of artificial light. Freddy hadn't been able to follow him here ; Gregory's on his own. It's taking everything in the young boy not to turn - tail and bolt, back into the shadows, back through the spaces only a child can fit through, back to the safety of the animatronic bear that's been his only ally throughout this ordeal.

"You're wearing the same uniform. I don't believe you!"

Huffed accusation, not quite a shout but certainly spoken with force. Gregory doesn't make any move closer, despite all the placating moves Devon makes. He doesn't trust him. Rarely trusts adults under normal circumstances, but especially not now.

"I came in through the front door. S'not my fault I got locked in — I tried to leave, but we didn't make it in time."

He's conveniently leaving out the fact that he snuck in with a large birthday party earlier, in the morning, and spent most of the day sneaking around among the chaos of the day crowd. It's the only answer Gregory will provide, pointedly ignoring the rest of the questions thrown his way.

❝ it's okay, it's okay !! i'm not going to hurt you. ❞ HE HOLDS HIS HANDS UP DEFENSIVELY, backing away from @braveburned. he understands if the kid's leery, he's heard how he's talked about vanessa through freddy. freddy's been devon's eyes and ears all night, something he hadn't intended on happening. yes, he's let the ai do most of its own work, but he's been in the back of freddy's head, just keeping an eye on the kid to make sure he doesn't get hurt. he thinks he said his name was gregory ?? not that he'd ever let the kid know he knows, it would probably just make him think devon's working with vanessa even more. as if the security guard uniform and lanyard of building keys in his righ hand didn't already make that assumption possible.

HE DOESN'T STEP CLOSER TO THE BOY, he stays put and waits to see if the younger one comes to him, lowering his hands to show that he's not going to do anything drastic. ❝ i'm not on her side, i'm on my side. i don't trust vanessa, either. are you okay ?? you're not hurt or anything, are you ?? i have first aid if you need patching up. what's your name, kiddo ?? how did you even get in here ?? ❞ devon's just trying to establish some form of trust, even if he knows that's probably next to impossible. he'd never even seen the kid come in the lobby on the cameras, and he sees everything. there had to be some way he got in the pizzaplex. and maybe there's a way devon can help him get out early.

★ — Gregory doesn't want to respond. Responding somehow feels like an acknowledgement, acceptance of the situation ; that this is all more than some terrible accident, but rather orchestrated. Every child that went missing before him died in this place, a fact of which he's certain now. He was never meant to make it this far in the first place. He was supposed to be next. He still could be next.

( he's going to die here, a homeless kid no one cares about ).

Deep breath to steel his nerves, the only indication of the fear that settles just beneath the surface of his brave facade being the way his eyes flicker away from her every couple of moments. The fazerblaster is pulled close to his chest, the only line of defense he's had all night. It won't work on her — he knows that, but its presence still gives him some sense of security.

"What's underneath Roxy raceway?"

He pauses, head tilting slightly. Whatever it is surrounding that sight, he's sure it has something to do with all of this. The confidence in his voice grows as he continues, a sort of determination underlying his words.

"I've seen all the messages about it. I know there's something there. I read the notes about the construction. I saw the elevator. There's — there's something down there, isn't there?"
