He's not even affording Michael the respect of looking at him when he answers, instead already half - skipping a few steps ahead to start peering around a corner, eager and curious. Everything is new, uncharted territory for the teen ; he's never been outside of the QZ before, can't help himself from wanting to look at absolutely everything.

At least this is relatively safe, a convenience store in the middle of nowhere.

"What're you looking for, anyways? Or did you just drag us into here for no reason. 'Cause, like, I get you're the one with more experience and shit — but I dunno what you're expecting to find. Place looks like looters picked it over years ago."

★ — Gregory nods in understanding, mentally mapping out his way to the gift shop towards the front of the building. It's a bit out of the way of his current objective, but worth it if this security guard is truly wanting to help him. He's lowered his guard ; not entirely, but enough that he doesn't look ready to bolt at any second, enough that he can split his attention and think about what to do next. A moment to formulate some semblance of a plan.

It's almost a surprise how easily the security guard acquiesces in allowing him to be the one to retrieve the walkie talkies, but he appreciates the show of trust ; Staying still doesn't feel safe, like every second he isn't moving something is getting closer. Somehow, he doubts the animatronics will anticipate him going back towards the entrance with all of them sharing the knowledge that the doors are sealed shut. With any luck, Gregory can be quickly and quietly in and out.

"I'll go there first. I can go to Monty golf after I bring the walkie talkie back. And I'll be back as fast as I can."

He speaks definitively, ending his words with another nod. This way, if he's really tricking him, Gregory can still go to fazerblast afterwards without worry of being followed. It's likely the best plan he'll be able to make without shutting out someone who's potentially on his side amidst all this. He moves to start to move, then pauses. Tilts his head a little.

" ... what's your name, by the way? I only know Vanessa's cause — cause Freddy said it, when he found me earlier."

Never mind that Freddy found him in his stomach hatch. Never mind that Gregory still hasn't even shared his own name. In his mind, he has every right to be secretive and only share what absolutely needs to be shared.

GREGORY CERTAINLY SEEMS EAGER TO GET THE WALKIES SO HE CAN STAY IN CONTACT WITH DEVON, despite still seeming standoffish. he nods when the kid says he can get the walkies himself, even though devon doesn't really think that's safe. there's so many security bots by that area and vanny's on the loose. then again, gregory does have freddy on his side. thank god for safe mode and devon getting to him first. ❝ after you get it, bring me back one. that way you, me, and freddy can all stick together in some way. i'll take it back to my office and keep an eye on the cameras. i can let you know if anything or anyone is coming. ❞

HE LISTENS AGAIN, as gregory explains about getting something to stun the robots. devon knows all about that, he's taken so many faz - cams from people. ❝ monty golf, okay. yeah, a faz - cam. i've had to confiscate a few of them from teenagers who think it's funny to flash the thing directly in freddy's eyes. having to restart him ISN'T funny. ❞ it gets annoying after a while, having to constantly stand next to a powered down freddy and wait for a mechanic to come reboot him, directing parents and children away from the bear with the 'freddy's a little tired right now, come back later' speech he's got memorised at this point.

❝i'll wait here for you, okay ?? i promise i won't go anywhere, just so you know i'm not out to hurt you. ❞ HE'S TRYING TO STAY OUT OF VIEW OF VANESSA ANYWAY, even though he hasn't seen her on the cameras since she stuck gregory in the lost and found. it can't be a coincidence that she disappeared right when that person in the rabbit costume showed up. god, he hopes that's not vanessa. he'll get to that problem later. for now he needs to make sure gregory's safe. that's part of his promise to his sister. he's failed nine times already since he came back from that god awful hellscape of a video game, he'd rather not have that number jump to ten.

❝ like i said, if there's no walkies on the shelf, the stock room should have some. they'll probably still be in the box, since the gift shop employees are kind of notorious for waiting until the last minute to restock. there should be some on the shelves, though. there were this afternoon. ❞

★ — "Well,"

Expression scrunches up ( starting at his nose, small frown tugging at his lips and brows furrowed ; it makes him look even more childlike, like he's pouting ), head tilting as he falls silent for a moment as if he's actually looking Michael up and down. After a moment he kinda shrugs, gesturing vaguely.

"No. But," ( another shrug ). "S'not like I've got a ton of options, either, so, y'know. Unless you want me to go find Freddy and ask him."

Not that a robot bear meant for stage performances and birthday parties could really give the best advice either.

gregory hates being told to be careful btw something about it just makes him restless to do something stupid. he's got 'don't tell me what to do' disease

RANDOM DIALOGUE PROMPTS (1/?)

★ — He has no idea what time it is when he startles awake ; only that it must be late, sometime in the dead of night when everything in the mundane world turns to silence. The faint buzz of the AC unit feels distant, the heavy staccato beat of his own heart overtaking everything. He doesn't even realize his own breath comes out shaky, trembling, small.

( at least he hadn't screamed. he hates it the most when he wakes up screaming ).

Eyes are wide as he tries to get his bearings, blinking rapidly as he tries to adjust to the darkness of the apartment. He must've fallen asleep on the couch. Again. Sleeping in his own room has been hard since he and Cassie were in the pizzaplex together, his eyes playing tricks on him in the shadowy corners while he's alone — there's nothing there, he knows there's nothing with them here, but the fear pricks under his skin and he doesn't feel safe. It's dark in the living room, now. It's dark, there's so many places for something to be hiding, and he's alone ——.

Someone speaks. Michael.

Of course it's Michael. It's always Michael, right when he needs him. Gregory gasps, his eyes flickering towards the voice despite the fact that all he can make out is a vague outline of the man on the opposite end of the couch. For a moment, he just stares. How long had he been there? Wasn't he going to sleep? Then, he pushes himself upright a bit more ( takes note of the blanket draped over his form, which he's pretty sure wasn't there before he fell asleep ) and rubs harshly at his eyes. Breathes out a sigh of relief, his breathing and heartbeat finally beginning to settle and even out. He shuffles a bit closer to his guardian. Not a lot, but enough that it's noticeable.

Isn't it a little embarrassing? Had Michael caught on that Gregory suddenly didn't like to be alone ( especially not in the dark, especially not while he was sleeping, not while he's defenseless )? He feels like some helpless little kid.
