Donna Noble originally being a one off character is so funny because like. She got the typical one off character send off and they had a lovely little exchange of "will I ever see you again?" 'if I'm lucky" which normally. Would be the end of it. But they had to match each other's freak to an absurd enough degree that it's like well okay in two years we're gonna have a soul shattering separation and then 15 years after THAT we're gonna have a house in France together.
