Summary: The truth slips out after a run in with Lucifer.

Word count: 1257

Dean sat on his couch pondering whether he should march into Castiel's room in the bunker and confront him, or just to keep on forgetting.

The last mission the boys went on Castiel tagged along. They had all thought the few missing people were from vampires but it happened to be Lucifer himself.

They had entered an abandoned church in the south like usual and quietly check it out.

Sam went and checked the back while Castiel and Dean checked the basement.

"Just follow me Cas, and watch my back."

"Alright dean." Cas says giving dean a small smile, in which he returns.

The two walk through the decaying halls and check each room. The last door was standing tall in front of them.

"This might be something..." dean says creaking the door open and finding a women standing with their back facing them.

Cas goes to smite her but dean holds his hand up.

"Hey miss? Are you okay?"

The woman does not answer so the two share a glance and walk towards her.

The closer they got they saw her face. Her eyes have been burned out.

Then she finally drops to the floor as the door slams behind them.

"Sam!" Dean calls out pulling Cas behind him and facing the door.

"Dean? I'm on the other side are you okay?"

"Yeah we're fine! There's a body in here!"

"Okay! I'm going to get the crow bar and see if I can pry the door open!"

"Okay!"

... "Son of a bitch!" Dean says placing his hands on the back of his head and looking at cas.

"Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?" A sly snicker sounds behind the pair.

Thy both spin around to see a man, he looks like a priest.

"Excuse me?" Dean says as Cas steps in front of him, "Lucifer."

His eyes flash red and he peaks a mysterious grin.

"That's my name don't wear it out!" He says cracking his fingers.

Dean goes to step forward but the man flings him back while walking closer to Castiel.

"Dean!" "Oh he can't move, he will soon but I need you to tell me where Rowena is, Castiel?"

Cas spits in his face and gets flung against the wall next to dean.

"Oh castiel castiel... you'd do anything to protect lil deano over here, is that correct?"

Castiel nods, never breaking eye contact with lucifer.

"Well how about this? Why don't we play a game, you tell dean the truth and I will let you both go."

Dean looks over at Cas with utter confusion written on his face. Cas stays set on lucifer.

"Why do you need that witch anyway?"

"Avoiding the truth I see... and she knows where my vessel is."

Dean scoffs, "you know exactly where your vessel is why do you need her?"

Lucifer shoots his hand towards dean and brings pain upon him once again.

"Don't speak unless you're spoken to, Winchester."

Lucifer let's his shield holding the two against the wall down, "Now why don't we be civil and have a conversation?"

Lucifer makes his way to one of the old tables and pulls up a map, his back facing the boys. The sound of quiet footsteps proceed to the door.

Lucifer unlocks the door and swings it open, "come on in, Sammy."

Sam walks in with a puzzled look.

Lucifer spins to him, holding his arms out for a hug. "Missed me?" Sam holds his gun up, pointing it out to him.

"Men are so touchy." He says frowning and holding the map out again, looking towards Castiel.

"Now Cas, I know exactly where my vessel is. But that bitch is the only one who can get it." He says pointing at a spot in the ocean.

"Do you want her number or something?" Dean says smirking

"Now we are talking!" He says freezing dean and walking over to him, taking his phone out of his pocket.

Lucifer sits down and writes the number down.

"Good business, good business. You guys can go. I've got a call to make."

With a snap of his fingers the boys were out in their car.

Castiel came trailing out of the house and enters the car a few minutes after.

They all share a worried glance

~~~ It's been a month now and they've handled Lucifer and that confusing experience but deans mind still hasn't left that moment.

What truth was Castiel hiding? Dean sighs and trudges himself toward the angels room, knocking softly.

"Cas?"

The door soon opens and a messy haired Castiel is standing there, wearing one of deans band shirts once again. Dean feels his heart flutter. "Dean, hello." Cas opens the door further so dean can come in.

When he walks in he sees a pile of books on Castiel's bed.

He takes a seat in one of the chairs and Cas sits on the edge of his bed giving dean his confused look. "Is everything alright dean?"

Dean stares at the floor for a bit then looks up at Cas, "What truth was Lucifer talking about?"

Cas freezes up and looks at dean in shock, then drops his shoulders and looks away with heated cheeks.

"It's nothing bad I promise you... it's something more emotional." Cas says returning with a sorry smile.

Dean stands up and pulls his chair closer to Cas, turning it around and siting on it.

"You know you can tell me anything Cas?"

Cas feels his heart ache. Those green eyes are the death of him.

"I'd rather not say something that could ruin our friendship dean."

Dean looks at Cas, siting up and placing his hand on his shoulder. "We aren't just friends Cas, you're my family. You're my best friend. I care about what's wrong with you. So why can't you tell me?" Dean says slightly offended.

Cas stands up and walks around dean, the freckled man follows.

Cas stays standing, looking at the wall until dean turns him around to face him.

"Please?"

Castiel looks away sighing then looks back at dean. "You know we have our profound bond dean... I don't want that bond to be a bond of just friendship."

Dean pushes his head back and eyes Cas, "what do you mean?"

"I like you dean..." castiels cheeks flush up and he looks away again, rubbing the back of his neck.

Dean stares at him in disbelief.

"You don't have to answer. I know what you will say. I know you like girls dean, I've seen how you act with them so it's okay-"

"When were you going to tell me?"

Cas looks back at Dean and frowns, "I wasn't going to."

Dean looks at the angel and pulls him in, giving him a warm hearted embrace. He can feel Castiel crying into his shoulder.

"...I love you dean." Dean pulls Cas back and wipes away his tears, smiling.

"I love you too Cas."

Cas frowns, "I understand I'll pack my things- wait what?"

"I said I love you too, you know it's hard for me I say so I'm not repeating it again..." dean says with hot cheeks.

"So does that mean we can... be together?" Cas says smiling at dean.

Dean chuckles and hugs Castiel again, "Of course my angel."

The two stayed together for the night, exchanging each other stories of how they both almost confessed to each other multiple times. When it was time for bed dean was almost out the door when Castiel pulled his collar back and kissed him passionately.

They stayed together that night, and for the rest of their lives.
