I Was Planning To Continue Writing Part 3 Of The Fire Nation Girlhood Series Today, But Somehow I Found

I was planning to continue writing part 3 of the fire nation girlhood series today, but somehow I found myself starting a Mai x Ty Lee fic idea that's been clawing at my head for ages now while putting this song on loop

What do you like about Mai? I'm pretty neutral about her but curious to hear your opinions.

My favorite thing about Mai is that she’s unapologetically herself. I know she gets a lot of hate for it, but come on, she’s a fifteen year old girl.

I actually find it pretty refreshing to see a female character who isn’t constantly falling over herself to appease other people. She’s snarky, sarcastic, gloomy, and she owns that without conceding to anyone else’s standards of how she should be. I love that about her.

And then she still retains her beautiful edgy emo charm when she gets with Zuko at the end. I love to see it. Mai doesn’t change who she is, she doesn’t have some stupid “makeover” so she’s more conventionally feminine and bubbly—no; she gets to remain Mai.

I also think she’s funny af and so cool. Just look at her style.

10/10 fit, fingerless gloves, black nail polish, knives. Truly an icon.

Mai sighed.  Maybe even her affection for sharp edges had dulled.

As always to spare anyone who's uninterested from my ramblings, author's note is under the cut!

I kind of published on accident. I like doing a final round of edits in the drafts of Ao3 to see how it looks on another platform (it helps to see the writing in a different format than my docs) and I accidentally hit publish instead of delete draft. I was debating about publishing today anyway or reading through one more time and posting tomorrow, so my mistype is your gain!

I really didn't expect June to get away from me as much as it did. I wasn't able to really dig into this until last weekend, but as I was editing I realized that this chapter was getting long, and while I'm eager to get to the next arc of this story, editing such a long chapter was pretty daunting SO for my own sanity I cut it in half.

Hopefully the next chapter won't take as long, but with the way this summer is going I can't make any promises. There's (now) one more chapter left in this arc and then the story really gets moving. Enjoy!
