The Siren and The Demon Chapter 1

Flash forward

“Kazarina.” Gill whispered in the dark. His breath made her long neck tickle as she took in a shivered breath. She could feel the dampness on the pillow.

“Kazarina.” He whispered again, this time more harshly. His fingers made their way on her skin, finally being able to touch the curves he had been memorizing for years. His extasy was beyond words. He tried and failed to suppress a moan by biting into her shoulder. “Kazarina.” He said to her once again. “Talk to me sweetheart. I’ll do anything you want.”

She sighed. “Anything?”

“Anything.”

“Look at me.” She said as she cupped his cheeks. “Look at me in the eyes.”

“Will you hypnotize me too?”

“Do I need hypnosis to put a spell on you?”

“No.” His sly smirk appeared on his lips. “No you don’t.”

“If I were a mythologic creature, what do you think I would be?” Asked Kazarina as they cuddled. Gill kept playing with her soft blonde tufts lazily. “Hmm.” He thought. He remembered the first time she walked into the room. It was Barodius’ birthday and a party was being held. He introduced her as the final member of the Twelve Orders and the new director of the Biological Research Lab. He remembered the black dress she had on that wasn’t showing off much skin yet made his mouth water. He remembered thinking to himself that she would be his rival and he needed to stop lusting over her. He remembered being unable to do so. “ A Siren.” He answered.

“Why?”

“Because you are beautiful and witty, you attract poor men to pull to the sea and eat, or hypnotize in that case.”

She curled her lips. “Yeah, that’s fair. And you would be a demon.”

“Why?”

“No reason. That’s just how I feel. And also you are associated with fire, maybe that’s why.”

“Maybe I should drag you to hell.”

“I wouldn’t expect anything less from you.”

End of flash forward

“Kazarina. What do you have to say? As the director of the Biological Research Lab, what is your opinion?”

Kazarina haf turned her head to the emperor as she heard her name. “Well.” She said. “Stoica has a point on how powerful the Bakugan who created the explosion was. Unfortunately none of my researches demonstrate that such a powerful creature even exists.”

“Well well well.” Gill said. “Something about the Bakugan that brilliant Kazarina doesn’t know.”

Unlike usual, Kazarina did not answer to him and just sighed. Barodius smiled as he rolled his eyes. He usually didn’t mock her but appearently today was different. “Yes. Well. Whatever the case may be. If a creature like this exists, we can’t afford it to be on the enemy side. Tell our agents on Earth that we want this Bakugan identifed and brought into our stable.”

It was for a short moment. If she hadn’t known him so well, she would not be able to realize it either but she did. She was observing him when Barodius said “Our agents on Earth” and Gill couldn’t help but shivering for a second. Why did he even care? She didn’t know.

“Yes sire. As you command.” Gill finally said.

Flashback

The emperor had threw a party for the Twelve Orders the night before the first attack on Neitha took place and mark the beginning of the war. He was following the tradition. The Emperor would throw a party for the orders and all of them would have fun, considering the fact that they might be be dead the next day.

The summer house was beautiful and more importantly, desolate. As they sat on the couches next to the fire on the garden, slowly laughing and sipping drinks from the fancy glasses, one would think they were an ordinary friend group.

“Spin the bottle.” Barodius said playfully as he pointed at the bottle with his head. “You’ve got nowhere to run.”

Nurzak put his glass down before reaching out for the bottle. The end of the bottle pointed at Stoica as the other end pointed at Gill. The laughters coalesced into one. “Rest in pieces.” Kazarina murmured. Stoica looked at Kazarina for a second before turning to Gill. “So, Master Gill. Truth or dare?”

Gill shruged. “Truth.”

Stoica made a smacking sound with his tongue. “Tell us…” He pointed at Kazarina with his glass. “Tell us something about Kazarina that you respect.”

“Uuu.” Kazarina said as her head turned to him. “This is gonna be hard.” Gill laughed at her face.

“Seriously?” Barodius asked after a few seconds of silence. “You can’t count one thing you respect about her?”

“Can you?”

“I can count a shit ton of stuff.”

Gill sighed as his head turned to her. “You…” he said. “You smell nice.”

Another silence occured before everyone burst into laughing again. Stoica came to the edge of his seat and acted like he was smelling her. Kazarina grabbed the pillow next to her and threw it to him. He caught it and threw it right at her again. Before she could even react, Barodius reached to catch it and put it on his lap.

“That’s enough children!”

A few hours later Kazarina came next to Gill, offering him a cigarette from her package. “Thank you.” He said as he took one out. They watched the others in silence as they played cards and drank .

“Dry lavender.” Kazarina finally said.

“Huh?”

“And some rose water too. I put it to my bath water. Dry lavenders smell really nice when you pop it with your fingers.”

“Yes, I can tell.”

i learned a while ago that the whole "most of the stars we see in the sky are actually already dead because they're so far away that we're seeing them as they were thousands of years ago" thing is a myth because stars live so long that it's unlikely many, if any, of them have burned out yet, but i'm still glad that myth exists because there's just something about the thought of the sky as a graveyard of stars that gets to me
