Bakugan AU ramble

Okay, this might be a long one. Also, it's really only going to be an infodump about alternative Vestal biology, so... yeah, if you're interested, keep reading (also, this idea striked me today at some 1:30am and hasn't left me since lmao if there's any holes or contradictions, I'm sorry! I'll be working on this concept and updating it, so ideas from this post may still change)

GENERAL INFORMATION

[The terms "lowborn/highborn" and "lower class/upper class" are used interchangeably and are to be considered common in the Vestal language. The society is strongly divided into those two groups, and their members hardly ever go round with each other.]

- Vestals are all shapeshifters and have two forms: pre-transformation form and transformation form. Pre-transformation is commonly considered the "base" form, but both are natural to the Vestals. Changing into the transformation form is triggered either by strong emotions (mostly fear or rage) or by the rules of Binding[1], and changing purely at will is exhausting and can give a Vestal unpleasant symptoms, such as a fever or muscle sores. Meanwhile changing into the pre-transformation form is usually effortless, though may take slightly longer. Changing into the transformation form is instant

- highborn are typically Avians, lowborn are Canine/Feline

An example of a Canine Vestal

[a reference example of a female Canine Vestal]

more info undercut!

- Avian features, such as wings and feathers, are associated religiously. Canine/Feline features are considered less sophisticated and more "beast-like", mostly by the highborn

- lower classes are typically more religious than upper classes

- Canine/Feline Vestals tend to be physically stronger than Avian Vestals

- the Avian transformation is less severe, leaving the Vestal semi-humanoid. However, pre-transformation Avian Vestals have clear animal features, such as feathered tails

- Canine/Feline Vestals transform entirely into an animal-like creature, typically resembling a larger form of an Earth wolf, fox, panther or, more rarely, bear. However, pre-transformation Canines/Felines have few typically animal traits

- in other dimensions, Vestals are often confined to a single form. In Vestroia, it's the transformation form, though they were able to retain their shapeshifting abilities during the invasion thanks to the Dimension Controllers. On Earth, it's the pre-transformation form, typically even more human-like than their regular forms, especially when it comes to Avian Vestals. Staying in a forcefully anthropomorphised form is uncomfortable for Vestals, making them tired, irritable, and sometimes even giving them symptoms of a sickness such as a fever. Those are the more severe, the less anthropomorphic their regular form is

Highborn characters in the story:

- King Zenoheld

- Prince Hydron

- Shadow Prove

- Lync Volan

- Klaus von Hertzing (half-human?)

Lowborn characters in the story:

- Baron Leltoy

- Ace Grit

- Volt Luster

- Mylene Farrow

- Gus Grav

The Fermins:

A family who used to be Canine/Feline, but its members have undergone medical procedures to give them Avian features instead. This is not unprecedented among those lowborn who have managed to live among the highborn. Clay Fermin has had surgical operations performed on himself, in order to change his Feline body into an Avian one, and Keith Fermin was given various substances as a young child which caused his body to mutate into a semi-Avian one. Mira Fermin's DNA was altered before she was born, causing her to be a natural Avian, the only one among her family members.

[1]BINDING

A Vestal can bind themselves to a person/item, and they will transform in defence of that to which they're bound. The concept is better understood within the upper classes, which means they know they can, for example, bind themselves to an item, which leads them to a better control of their powers. A common practice among the highborn is to bind oneself to an accessory, such as a necklace, and squish it when one wants to transform - since that is instinctually considered "a danger" and triggers the transformation. A much less common, yet clever way of using this, is binding oneself to a word, which makes one transform whenever that word is spoken around them (or read by them, for that matter). Tricky, as it may easily cause an involuntary transformation, should the word be poorly chosen. Members of lower classes are often unaware of those possibilities of binding, and tend to bind themselves exclusively to other people

- Binding is voluntary and can be broken off at any point. An unbound person, however, is much more prone to involuntary transformations, as they become dependent almost solely on the unbound person's emotions

- it's possible for a person who is bound to another person to transform in response to a request by that whom they're bound to. This, however, requires a deep and emotional bond, and can be connected to physical effort

That's it for now, though I do have more ideas, and I'll share them in the future, if I don't forget! I'm planning to doodle the designs of specific characters in this AU, so more info will be coming along with them :> There, a doodle of my favourite lapdog bound to his power-thirsty master

Dedalus, Icarus, Or Something Else Completely?

Dedalus, Icarus, or something else completely?

Professor Clay Fermin from my AU to Bakugan: New Vestroia. Professor Fermin was born a Feline Vestal, but as he educated himself and worked his way up the social ladder, he decided that wouldn't do. He would not be seen as a lowly creature, he WAS NOT a lowly creature, he was going to be just like the aristocratic Avian Vestals, just as magnificent, just as great, just as... divine.

[(dramatically stylised) lore undercut!]

In the Vestal culture, anything avian is associated with the divine. Feathers, wings, you know the drill. This, conveniently, gives the aristocracy - consisting practically entirely of Avian Vestals - a spiritual permission for their power, something similar to how humans used to believe their kings were crowned by the will of their God. Any Avian Vestal can count on respect, even among the highborn. Avian Vestals are reckoned with.

However, it's difficult to say whether anyone but Clay Fermin himself sees him as a divine creature, as his form is unlike anything any Vestal has ever seen. (Or, well... What the general public has ever seen.) He does not switch between a pre-transition and transition form, and the state he's permanently locked in does not resemble either of the Avian forms. Avian Vestals' pre-transition forms do have feathery tails, as does professor Fermin, but they also have, say, small feathers on their faces and across their arms, and small talons for toes. Their transition forms have their entire arms turned to wings, their bodies are hunched and ribcages grown into those similar to birds, their faces change into beaks, their legs turn into scaly and animal ones. Never do they ever carry wings on their backs. And, come to think of it, they never have stitches where their wings and tails grow out. They never have scales on their chests, either. But that may be because they rarely take experimental chemicals. Either way, no Vestal has ever looked quite like professor Clay Fermin. Can he even fly in this bizarre form of his?

Something so strange, however, it commands fear as well as wonder. And a level of respect. After all, even though this strange creature is unlike any other, it does bear feathers and wings on its body. There is something terrifyingly divine about it.

Camp Vestroia things!

that’s right, I’m finally posting some headcanons for my AU

-Shun and Skyress are siblings, and Ingram is their cousin.

-Shun writes letters to his mom about camp, even though he knows she’ll never read them(on account of being dead)

-Helios and Drago are rivals who basically constantly fight to outdo each other

-Klaus’ family owns the camp on the first place

-Tigrerra exists, but unlike the other OG guardian Bakugan, she is the local stray cat. Brontes takes the place of counselor

-Preyas has a mullet. You may hate it, but I feel like it makes sense

-Skyress loves letting Shun deal with his own problems even when she could totally help. She does this because she thinks Shun gets too attached to people sometimes and wouldn’t know how to go on without them. Also, it’s funny.

-The Aquos cabin entirely ignores their counselors. They set up a democratic government. Preyas and Elfin are just there.

Log entry #2: Heritage

[which is a new name for my Bakugan AU posts; will be explained eventually >:>]

I am going INSANE over the concept of Hydron being a Canine Vestal. While Zenoheld is an Avian Vestal.

When it comes to inheritance-related genetics of the Vestals, there's obviously a couple of situations to consider.

1st type. Two Vestals of the same exact type having a child. This means a Canine-Canine child, a Feline-Feline child, or an Avian-Avian child*. Such a child will retain the same type as their parents, and the specific features will be a combination of the features of their parents. An example would be a Canine-Canine child, inheriting a wolf form from their mother, but the fur colour and downturned ears from their father.

2nd type. Two Vestals of a similar type having a child. This means a Canine-Feline child. Such a child will most often generally resemble one of their parents, but have a considerable amount of the other's features. An example would be a Canine-Feline child, whose transformation form looks like a wolf like their Canine mother's, but has a short muzzle and can hide their claws like their Feline father's.

*If the Avian Vestals cared to learn more of the Earth world, they would realise their own forms are often as different from one another as Canine Vestals are from the Feline ones. They can resemble simple pigeons and flashy parrots, but also mighty eagles and gloomy vultures. The children of two Avian Vestals are thus hybrids of both parents, just as the Canine-Feline children. This, however, is not spoken of, and the Avian-Avian children are typically considered the same as the 1st type. An Avian Vestal is an Avian Vestal, the important thing is that they've been given a feathered form.

3rd type: Things get dangerous when an Avian Vestal has a child with a Canine/Feline one. The child has a chance to be a hybrid, but that chance is statistically so low it can well be ignored. If such is born, it's often shunned, seen as near blasphemy - a mixture between the divinity of feathers and the dirtiness of fur. Other than that, it's a nearly 50/50 situation - they'll be born either an Avian, or a Canine/Feline. This, of course, is where more trouble comes - in most cases, an Avian Vestal will be more respected, and a Canine/Feline one will be more of a disappointment. The situation is even more dire, for the relationship between an Avian Vestal and a Canine/Feline Vestal will almost always be a misalliance, and if the child is not born Avian, both them and their Canine/Feline parent may be rejected.

(4th type: Rarely spoken of. If a Vestal has a child with a creature from another dimension, it will often bring unexpected mutations to the offspring. There's a story going around about a half-human Vestal that sports a fish tale and fins when in transformation form.)

What if a situation happened, though, where an Avian-Canine child would not be the result of a misalliance? Canine/Feline Vestals among the highborn are extremely rare, but there is a family or two (quite literally) of such. And in troubling times, it might have proven necessary to arrange a marriage between the royal heir and one of those families, to show support of the Canine/Feline lower classes, growing less fond of their rulers every overpopulated, underfed day. Only no one truly expected the child of that marriage to be born a Canine, in the image of his mother...

OKAY- so umm- I did mention AS Mira in my Alignment Shift post, then I talked about Mirage and Fire Mira... but I always tend to forget to do a post about another reoccurring Mira alternate I tend to show on here and my side account (@bakugan-doodles)...

I guess it's time to change that-

So- I should finally talk about...

OKAY- So Umm- I Did Mention AS Mira In My Alignment Shift Post, Then I Talked About Mirage And Fire Mira...

Gosh this image is long

Fun fact, I slightly updated the design just to prepare for this... and then forgot...

Anyways... so here's my genderflipped Mira, or as I call him- Mire-

I am NOT doing a full on genderflip AU (too much work and I don't want to do that- if anyone wants to do it, be my guest-)- however, this isn't just the same story in canon but now it's Mire- it's a bit different.

Now, for a quick warning- Mire's AU has some bits of transphobia present in his story (to make it short... Clay is just an awful father).

I say this because... Mire is trans! Link of drawing I did of him for pride month!

Now, as mentioned earlier- Clay isn't that thrilled of the idea... however, here comes Keith- who would always stick by Mire's side... until out of a sudden he just, disappeared... right when the family was supposed to move to New Vestroia...

Shortly after that, similar to the canon, he'd stumble in Clay's lab and notice Hydranoid... however unlike canon- instead of seeing Keith, there's Spectra-

So, he does run, start the resistance and tries to free the bakugans... however unlike canon, there are some changes to how his story goes-

While he still tries to look for Keith, that mission is pretty much a side quest as he mainly puts his energy into the main mission at hand. There's no moment when he does ditch the team.

And then we get to Earth and when he learns that Spectra is Keith... yeah he won't take it well. Since he saw Spectra in the lab, he pretty much took it as Spectra working with Clay- and learning that Spectra is Keith, pretty much angers him (Julie would have to hold him so he won't just beat the shit out of Spectra).

When the moment comes for the group to just return to New Vestroia... he doesn't betray the team, meaning in his universe, the girls actually end up coming to New Vestroia to help the team- ALSO- not as important but the rest of the resistance on New Vestroia doesn't get captured.

So umm- yeah- dude's just ends up sticking with the team no matter what-

I do need to explain some stuff about him before I'll move forward.

Unlike canon Mira... he's a bit more on the dumb side... but in a charming way?

Despite all that, he doesn't fall into the pitfalls of "trying to find his brother". Mainly because he thinks he'd be just like him (in the sense of disappearing/ditching him) to the team.

There's also him and Ace... while for the most part in canon, Ace's the one to have a crush on Mira, while Mira is oblivious... here both Ace and Mire are oblivious to one another... but somehow still act like they're married couple. (Dan would try to call it out but they both deny it).

My brain's also like "Hey let's give him big brother energy", esp when I think ab the potential interactions he'll have with Runo and Julie.

This is also the reason why he doesn't betray the team when they return to New Vestroia, he's aware he'd leave everyone stranded and ruin the chance for the girls to join them.

So yeah- in short, he may be dumb, but he's- well, sweet, in a sense of "everyone likes this dude".

Honestly this is also why I depicted him once as a shoulder angel- it's also funny to look at him and AS Mira. AS Mira is just the most evil person you'll see, meanwhile Mire is the most compassionate person.

Also ngl, both of them are so different from canon Mira- but I like it? I really like when AU characters can be so different from their original counterpart. Their own person, splintered from someone else.

If you have any question about him or his universe, feel free to ask, I'll try to answer.

Last fun fact: His universe is named "The butterfly effect", to reflect how a tiny change can just spiral into something bigger.

Bakugan AU doodle dump!

Bakugan AU Doodle Dump!

My contribution to the SpectraGus fandom After a particularly heated quarrel at the Vexos quarters. Gus - without much thought - went into his transformation form in defence of Spectra, and found out on his own skin that even a desert wolf isn't strong enough to take on four Vexos with orders to hold him down. Besides, it's so humiliating for the likes of him - Canine and Feline - to give in to impulses like this... Especially since it takes such basic focus for a Vestal to keep most of their clothes on in their transformations, and he could hardly even do that. Even Spectra thought it an overreaction... But at least he was there afterwards.

[someone remind me to write a oneshot out of this because I sure as heck will forget]

Bakugan AU Doodle Dump!

Prince Hydron with a concept of his transformation form (based on an Earth fennec fox). His necklace, it says his name - a gift from Hydron's mother, that king Zenoheld only commented on with "you better wear it so I don't forget your name, dog." Hydron hasn't taken it off since.

Bakugan AU Doodle Dump!

Gus, the Desert Wolf, with concepts of his transformation form (based on an Earth golden jackal). I altered his pre-transformation design a bit as well, but don't get too attached to it, I will probably still change it

BONUS

My OC from an original story, by the name of Arhes, but it's a Bakugan AU design :>

Long Ago, The Inhabitants Of A Kingdom Deep Within The Far Reaches Of Space Are Shocked When An Orb Of

Long ago, the inhabitants of a kingdom deep within the far reaches of space are shocked when an orb of dazzling light comes upon them, bringing monstrous creatures with it. The inhabitants feared the creatures would surely kill them all, but the creatures themselves are just as confused and scared as to how they suddenly got there in the first place. The two twin rulers of the kingdom made a deal with the creatures that they would live in harmony together, the leader of the creatures known as “Bakugan” enlisted their own twin heirs to be allies of each ruler. The younger ruler eventually saw just how powerful the magical orb, dubbed the “Sacred Orb” was and became tempted by greed, wishing to use it for selfish gain. The older sibling respected the power of the orb as a life giver and refused to let the younger do anything nefarious with it. This led to a conflict that became so intense it split the planet in two. The younger sibling and their Bakugan ally were cast into the shadowy depths while the older sibling and their Bakugan ally remained guardians of the sacred orb, blessing them and their future generations with light and life. The light planet becomes Neathia. The dark planet would come to be called Gundalia.
