Looking at that recent thing on Nintendo and I'm wondering several things. Is this to prevent fan games, other official games (which will most likely backfire on Nintendo themselves, since several mon catchers and mount riding games are exclusively on their consoles and handhelds), or both? And further more, is this only restricted to Japan, or will it affect worldwide?

I know that Japanese copyright laws are ungodly strict (just ask anyone who has to deal with Toei's shit), to the point that they could give Disney a run for their money, but this is a new low. No matter how you (general you I mean) slice it, it's bad. Like, rotten bad.

Nintendo have been as vocal as possible without actually being vocal about how upset they are with Genshin over its perceived success as a "Free to play Breath of the Wild". They had been doing this patent shit since before then too and were using it to basically just go around like full blown yakuza running a collection racket, finding successful companies with broad successful games and sueing them for millions. Literal "youtube copyright troll" level shitheadedness

It's literally just so everytime Nintendo sees a nail sticking up they can hammer it down and take a cut. They have been nonstop filing patents on things they didnt even come up with (Megami Tensei predates pokemon, Half Life 2 certainly predates Tears of the Kingdom, and dont even get me started again on that horseshit horse shit where they patented MOUNTS).

This is them trying to make sure that literally anything that so much s gets compared to Nintendo, and according to nintendo any platoformer is inspired by them and any game with horses you can ride is inspired by them, gives them legal course to sue for a cut of the pie. Where's that gif of CEO brennan lee mulligan saying "We're fucked!" cause that's what it is. This is basically Defcon 2 on the situation now that Nintendo are publically flaunting patents to bully whoever they see as competition in any form, and not just doing it behind closed doors to avoid scrutiny as they run collection schemes on mobile game companies.
