Sharehouse Peace Witch's Ladder
Sharehouse Peace Witch's Ladder
This one's been in the works for me for a week or so but I finally had enough peace in my busy moving schedule to sit down and make a pair - one for the front door and one for the back.

Use 9 silver [coloured] bells in place of knots or feathers so that these double as a door protection Witch Bell/s. Their peal as the door is opened wards off dark energies and brings in positive energy.
Use 3 threads:
Blue - for peace, calm, healing and protection
Yellow - for clear communication (So important in a share house)
Black- to absorb negative energy
I used embroidery thread but strips of fabric or anything you have around will do fine, as long as your bells can thread on.

Tie a loop large enough to slip on to your door handle, and then thread on your first bell. I always thread my bells onto the black thread so that they will reinforce each others ability to repel and control dark energies.
Start plaiting! Each time you cross a thread over repeat to yourself its purpose: "peace and calm, clear communication absorb the negative, peace and calm, clear communication, absorb the negative-" I find this helps my intent stay focused for such long projects.
When you've plaited enough space that your bells won't touch, thread on another. Repeat this until the 9th bell. Tie this one on with a strong ending statement such as "In this Home!" Or "So mote it be!"
Trim your excess thread (unless you want straggly-chic). Plop it on your door and thank it in advance for its work. You're done!

On The Ethics of Cursing
I somehow STILL see people curse shaming and I figured I’d put in my two cents on the matter. People act as if there is some sort of moral ambiguity in cursing, and while this may be true, I think it is still a bit more clear-cut than we give it credit for. If you’re a curse-shamer or are against anybody cursing for any reason, I invite you to read this massive post I churned out just for you. It’s not mean. I promise.
Cursing (as well as hexing and jinxing, but for now I’m lumping it all into curses for the sake of conversation) is a wide spectrum, but for now let’s make it two categories: mild and severe. Mild cursing is little stuff like “may your grocery bags rip open” and severe is stuff that is potentially life-affecting and what curse-shamers immediately jump to.
Mild curses are like a spray bottle full of water. The target is like a cat. If your cat keeps trying to sharpen its claws on the leg of your fancy couch, you’re going to spray it with the water. It’s not exactly pleasant for the cat, but it’s not harmful either. It’s just enough to throw off its groove in order to teach it a lesson. If it happens repeatedly, the cat might even learn that the couch is off limits for scratching.
What you would not do is shrug, “forgive and forget,” and ignore the behavior as the leg of your fancy couch slowly turns to cornmeal. If somebody is mean or rude to you, and talking won’t work (cats don’t speak English and humans are often unwilling to listen no matter the language) then what is there left to do? This is behavior that can not continue. Time to get the spray bottle.
“But what about severe curses? Certainly there is no ethical time to use that!” you cry. But wait! There’s more! :D
Severe cursing is more like a tranquilizer dart. It has one purpose: to take somebody out as quickly as possible. If you hit a cat with a tranquilizer dart for scratching the couch, then yes, you’re a douchebag (and shouldn’t own a cat… or tranquilizer darts.) But tranquilizer darts aren’t for domestic house pets. They’re for wild animals. Imagine for me now a tiger. It’s a carnivorous beast that could easily overpower you if it was hungry. It’s someone in your life who means DANGER. They could be an abuser, or a con artist, or someone who is bigoted to the point of violence. This person in your life is bad news, and often has the same immediate risk as a hungry tiger that’s taken up residence in your house. You don’t want to be the next meal, and this tiger needs to stop trying to eat you and your friends. The spray bottle won’t help you now. You need the tranquilizer dart.
At this point, I would actually argue cursing someone who is a danger to society is actually more ethically responsible than not doing so, especially if this person is an abuser who is likely to claim more victims. This is someone who needs to be stopped. You wouldn’t just let a tiger run amok and eat other people.
Time for the FAQ’s:
“But couldn’t you just take legal action?“
Maybe, sometimes. But legal action is very expensive and slow-moving. Many people can’t afford to do that. Not to mention, with cases of abuse and other crimes, the likelihood this person will be found guilty or serve jail time is slim. You may not have enough solid evidence to hold yourself up in court. Sometimes, the person wasn’t actually breaking the law but is still extremely shitty. If you CAN take someone to court definitely do, but a lot of the time it just isn’t an option.
“Just fight them!”
Haha, no thanks. I’m not interested in getting arrested for assault. Also I weigh 120lbs and couldn’t fight to save my life, and I don’t even have a physical disability. If you’re already at the point where you’re ready to punch someone out, then why are you even against cursing?
“What about karma/ the threefold law?”
First of all, not everybody who uses magic believes in the threefold law, so it’s not a solid argument. (If it were, then none of us would be doing magic at all because apparently we’re all going straight to hell.) But let’s say someone does believe in it. When you curse someone who really deserves it, you are acting as their karma. If you tranquilize a loose tiger, are you really doing something despicable that’s worthy of holy retribution? Certainly the tiger isn’t happy at all, but all the people he didn’t eat might be. When you are driven to curse someone, you are simply the agent of their karma. Everyone can stop with the threefold fear-mongering now.
“What if the person doesn’t deserve the curse?”
It is not your place to make that decision for someone else.
“I prefer to just forgive and forget, to protect myself and move on. I would never hurt someone intentionally no matter the reason!”
You don’t have to curse if you don’t want to. As of writing this, I have never actually cursed anyone (but believe me, I’ve considered it.) If that works for you, do it! However, there are other situations where “forgiving and forgetting” is not an option and action must be taken. YOU SHOULD NEVER FEEL OBLIGATED TO FORGIVE AN ABUSER, and I feel like a lot of curse-shaming tends to suggest people should. That’s very icky to me.
“Why can’t witchcraft just be pleasant and pretty again?”
You clearly have a fundamental misunderstanding of the origin of witchcraft. Witchcraft has never once in its history been portrayed as overall pleasant and happy. That’s incredibly new and still isn’t a mainstream idea. Cursing is here to stay, and it’s been a part of witchcraft much longer than you.
“I can’t think of a situation that would ever warrant cursing! How can they?”
Because they have a different life experience than you and have been through things you may have not. It’s nobody’s place to judge how someone deals with things.
“Wouldn’t they be a menace themselves if they just cursed everyone?”
Nobody is going around cursing literally everyone. But if they did, they would be a jerk. I’ll give you that. But that’s the fault of the individual, not cursing.
“We already have a bad enough reputation as witches without cursing!”
Correct. Which is exactly why we shouldn’t give a shit what non-witches think. They’re going to dislike witchcraft no matter what, right?

How do Crystals Actually Work?
AKA: The basic science behind crystal-related metaphysics / Information about these semi-precious minerals!

Hello there ~! As a witch and a constant crystal user, I have come across my fair share of skeptics. These people may have even presented themselves to you at one time; claiming that ‘crystal magick’ or ‘crystal healing’ methods are not at all effective or real, and giving you a bit of grief for your crystal usage and beliefs. Well, I’m here to give you a nice long post on the physics and properties of metaphysical stones! I also figured it would be nice to have an explanation post going around for all those who work with stones and crystals, yet have never considered the science behind their energies. Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I feel that this is the type of post that will collect a few comments in my ask, so please be sure to handle any comments/questions you may have with patience, and I will gladly chat with you about the contents of this post! On the other hand, aggressive and/or rude messages will be deleted, if they should reach my message box ~ Thank you
Energy Explaination ◊
Crystals and stones have been treasured and sought after for hundreds of years and used in nearly every culture of the world. Not only are they beautiful, collectable, and make wonderful jewelry or trinkets; but crystals are very powerful subjects for energy movement and manipulation! These precious minerals use a type of energy called
* Piezoelectricity *
Which is a huge factor in why many crystals are commonly used to transmit energy in technology and devices, such as the computer or phone you may be reading this from. Along with the ability to transmit, they can also take in, enhance, or ‘mingle’ with the natural energies from your own body or with the energies of another organism/object to produce a desired outcome!
The chemical makeup of each type of stone determines what exactly it’s own energy will do when combined with a persons’ natural energy, and because everyone has a different energy, this is also the reason why we all have different responses to the energies of varying stones.
For example, although Rose Quartz and Smokey Quartz may both be in the same family of stone, their differences in formation and make-up will act in different ways.
Here are some interesting informational posts that go deeper into crystal energies and makeup:

How Shape Effects Energy ◊
Crystals, not only those used for jewelry, are often cut into specific shapes and sizes for personal use. Among the most common types are spherical/tumbled, pointed, and obilisk ~ And although you might not have considered the shape while thinking about crystal healing, meditation, or magick, it still plays an relatively important role! Here are a list of shapes and their best uses, as known by myself and collected from various sources:
(Cut) Pointed: Best used when energy is meant to be concentrated and strongly ‘pointed’ in only one specific direction. If a stone has more than one point, the energy will also tend to shoot in those multiple directions. (The second portion of this definition also fits for a crystal cluster piece, though those points are naturally formed rather than cut)
Raw/Natural: (Can included naturally pointed) Much like a crystal’s natural and seemingly random shape of growth, the energy of a raw stone will come out in a ‘blotted’ manner, and will most likely be emitted in different directions and frequencies from different areas of the stone, determined by the formation.
Spherical: The energies of a crystal sphere, much like those used for crystal ball scrying and divination, come out in a round and even manner; the smoother and more even the spherical shape of the ball, the smoother the energy will emit. Because it is completely round, energy will emit from all areas of the ball in even amounts.
Tumbled: (Similar to spherical) Crystals and stones that have been ‘tumbled’, or smoothed out - yet not into a sphere, will behave similar to the shape above. Although, because they are not completely round (just ‘soft-edged’) the energy will slightly differ in means of even-ness to that of a sphere.
Obilisk: A stronger version of the (cut) pointed stone, as the bottom of an obilisk-shaped crystal is solidly flat, and allowing for a more ‘grounded’ directional energy. Because these are meant to be displaced standing and pointing upwards, they are best used when energy is needed to be pointed up.
Now that I know these things, what could I do with crystals? ◊
Meditate with them
Create “Crystal Grids” ~ Tutorial post here
Aline and balance your bodys’ natural energy points with crystals (Also known as ‘Chakras’, first introduced in Hindu texts)
Use stones and crystals to create a desired effect or feeling (They can be used for love, physical & mental healing, focus, grounding, balancing, communication, emotional subjects, strengthening mental/metaphysical abilities, cleansing, etc.) ~ List of Crystal Properties (by name)
Create amulets from stones/crystals
Craft them into keychains/pocket keepsakes to carry with you for everyday use (Be sure to take gentle care of softer stones that scratch easily!)
Mixing up a gem elixer (see tips below; some stones are toxic to water)
And many more! While I could not list everything you could possibly do with these treasured pieces of earth, there are likely more options that I have never even explored myself
Extra Crystal Tips ◊
Some stones are toxic to water, and/or may ruin or dissolve when come in contact with it! Click HERE for a list of crystals that do not enjoy water, along with the materials that make them this way
In metaphysics, crystal magick, and technology, quartz is the universal substitute for all stones. Quartz can be physically and technologically programmed with an extremely high amount of data, and can also be programmed with intent for personal, healing, and magickal use. Think of quartz as the ‘empty jar’ of crystals: filled with possibility
When buying stones and crystals online, make absolute sure that you order from someone who a.) has positive and over 10+ reviews, and b.) will be willing to tell you the EXACT measurements and dimensions of the product. Too many online stores will trick you into buying a stone that is smaller than you were led to think upon purchase! I also recommend buying from someone who will provide insurance over fragile crystals possibly broken during shipping
When cleansing them, be sure to choose a method that is best for each type of stone. Some may fade in sunlight, dissolve or ruin in water, react badly with salt, etc. Do your research!
If the chemical makeup of a lab-produced crystal is the exact same to the makeup of a naturally-formed one, the only things that will differ between the stones are the frequency rates of energy they emit (a lab-produced stone would not be as powerful as a naturally formed one), and the energies they contain. Contained energies aren’t so important as the frequencies, as stones and crystals can be “cleansed” (cleared out / turned into a ‘blank-slate’) by multiple methods.
If you are wondering whether or not you have any crystal/mineral stores near you, try searching google maps with the terms “crystal”, “mineral”, or “metaphysical” - as these will usually yield the best results!
After acquiring a stone, it is best to cleanse out the energies that may have been transferred into it by the formation process or by other people handling it
If you feel fatigued, sick, head/body pain, or any sort of discomfort while using a stone for metaphysical purposes (on more than one occasion) give it a good cleanse before further use
Thank you for reading!
I hope everyone learned a thing or two from this gathering of information, and as always, feel free to send me any questions or comments you may have! I’m sure I will think of a few more things to add to this post, so similar to my Witch Types post, I may post updated versions as needed.
Hope you’re all having a lovely day! ◊ Rainy

I see a lot of people saying that new witches shouldn’t practice magic until they’ve researched like E V E R Y T H I N G
And I get the idea? I get it? Like, yeah, research your herbs to make sure nothing’s gonna fuck with your medications, your crystals to make sure they’re not gonna dissolve or hurt you, your essential oils to make sure you’re not gonna hurt yourself or your kids or pets. That’s basic safety, and you should definitely do that.
But I don’t really jive with the notion of “you have to have thoroughly researched and memorized every possible correspondence and history of every single item you use in your craft” because like… if I wait to be an expert, then I’ll never do anything?
Weirdly enough… I think of it like Mythbusters.
You do your research, make sure you’re not gonna blow yourself up, you make sure you’ve got proper protective equipment and a fire extinguisher… and then you do stuff. You can read about this stuff all day long, but eventually you just gotta strap some rockets to a car to see what happens.
If it doesn’t work? Cool. Failure is always an option. You learn from what you did. And maybe you do a ‘revisit’ and try it again differently later on down the road when you’ve learned some more.
Failure is always an option.
The only difference between screwing around and science is writing it down.
If you can’t replicate the myth as it’s told, try to replicate the result.
When in doubt… C4.
(Don’t… don’t actually do that last one.)
