a/n: y/n is Harry’s sister
“C-Can you repeat that?” (Y/n) asked. Her cheeks turning a hint of red. As she waited to hear Cedric’s question once more, wanting to make sure she was hearing it correctly.
“Will you go to the Yule Ball with me?” He replied. If only Cedric could hear her thoughts. (Y/n) stood there silently, her heart pounding against her chest.
“If not that’s-”
“Yes,” she replied. Hugging her school books close to her chest, a smile growing across her cheeks. “I’d love too.”
Cedric’s mouth dropped in the shape of an ‘o’. He stared at her in awe, as she walked down the stairs towards him. A smile grew across her lips as she locked eyes with him, this felt like an utter dream to her. One that she never wanted to awake from.
She felt like a princess about to dance with her prince. Reaching the bottom of the stairs, he reached out his hand towards her, taking it with a smile she looked at him.
“You look rather dashing, Cedric.” She complimented.
“Y-You look beautiful.” He said.
She giggled, as they entered the Great Hall. Hermione was there with Viktor Krum, Ron, and Harry were there as well. Cedric couldn’t stop complimenting (Y/n) and she couldn’t stop complimenting him.
(Y/n) always seemed to make Cedric smile, from her awkwardness, courage, bravery, and honesty at times. He loved everything about her. So just seeing her right now dancing with him, in the most beautiful dress made his heart soar.
“I was wondering. If maybe we could go on at da-”
“Yes,” she replied. A smile on her lips leaning up and giving him a peck on the cheek. He spun her around and she giggled, looking into his eyes.
(Y/n) appears with Cedric’s body. Her arms wrapped around him as she sobbed into his chest. The crowd didn’t understand what has taken place and they all cheered.
She couldn’t breathe. Nor think. All she knew was that Cedric’s gone and he’s never coming back. The love of her life is never coming back.
“Y/n! Y/n!” Dumbledore exclaimed. Rushing over towards her kneeling down, trying to pry her arms off Cedric’s body.
“No, no, no!” She cried. Not wanting to let go. Tears rolling down her cheeks, “Tell me what happened!” He asked, and she looked at him teary-eyed.
“He's back, he's back! Voldemort's back.” She cried. Her lip quivering, “Cedric, he asked me to bring his body back. I couldn't leave him, not there.” She cried, sniffling as the moment replayed in her head over and over.
Looking back down at Cedric’s lifeless body. She stared into his eyes cupping his cheeks, “It should’ve been me,” She wailed, wrapping her arms back around his body as she cried into his chest.
Even though there were far more important situations at hand, more tears welled up in her eyes. As she whispered in his chest, “We still haven’t gone on our date.” She sniffled, as she continued to cry into his chest.
sleep talking
cedric diggory x reader (no pronouns used)
warnings: none? reader gets stood up and fluff ensues
“don’t think about it too much ced” sparing one last look at him, desperately trying to fix the runny mascara on your cheeks. “i can just go and fall in love with a new guy, this castle is full of them and-“
he just tuned your conversation out. his heart clenched, just hours prior he had held your sobbing form. if it was up to him he would still have you tucked in between his sheets and wrapped around him, it was saturday after all. a sad chuckle left your lips and he immediately looked up to you, sitting on the edge of his bed with your arms wrapped around you.
“i just feel pathetic you know? like i really thought he was going to show up” you smiled half heartedly at him and he opened his arms up for you, as he always did.
“come on hun. you look tired and i know you want to sleep some more” you sighed and crawled into his open arms. nuzzling your head on the crook of his shoulder and his neck, inhaling his soft vanilla scent. his hands immediately went to rubbing circles on your back and running the other through your hair. you sniffled against his chest and he gripped you closer, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
“you always smell so nice, ced” feeling your eyelids droop with the weight of tiredness, you press a kiss to his neck and let sleep take you over. he felt how your breathing started to slow and your grip on him went slack.
cedric took a minute to properly look at you, wearing his quidditch sweater which practically covered you completely. after you were stood up last night you ran to his room and jumped into his arms. he was mad as it already was, considering you were going out with some other bloke and not staying with him. where you were meant to be, in his arms. but to listen to you cry about how he stood you up and how you waited for him for hours until you realized he was just not going to show made his blood boil.
he saw as some tears slowly slipped off your eyes and ran down your cheeks. his hand was quick to wipe them off with his thumb, and then rub circles on your soft skin while still petting your hair. he wished it could always be like this, he knew it was meant to be like this. there was no possible way your body fit so perfectly against his as a coincidence, he refused to believe it.
“i love you.” his voice barely above a whisper. “and if only you knew that” his fingers were still caressing the side of your face and he knew better than to speak to you while you were sleeping but he couldn’t seem to stop. “if only you knew how perfect and how beautiful you are to me. if you could see the way i look at you. and how i admire you. how every thing about you is just so perfect to me. like the way your hair falls over your face during potions class and you-“
“what are you saying ceddy?” you said while stirring in your sleep a little. he hoped you didn’t catch much of his ramble. he knew it wasn’t time for him to confess how much he loved you. you weren’t ready yet. the time just wasn’t perfect, and he wanted to give you perfection.
“i was just thinking out loud about that divinations test coming up. you studied for it already?”
“it’s easy hun” you were always more affectionate when you were half asleep. pulling out all the pet names.
“oh yeah?”
“the future is clear ceddy. it’s just you” your sleepy ramble was interrupted by a big yawn and he could tell you were slipping off again.
“what did you say?” he looked down to your face. checking for signs that you heard him. “baby i need you to say that again please” he looked at you for a couple seconds before realizing your sleepy talk was over and you were dozing off for good. sleep had taken completely over you. he had so many things to say and his mind was running a mile an hour. but as he felt your breathing on his neck and your grip getting tighter on him he pressed a kiss to your forehead. a smile spreading on his face as he let sleep take over him too.

November Prompt Day 1: Theater
Words: 681 | Pairing : Cedric Diggory x reader, sixth year
You hadn’t given it much thought at first when the sandy haired Hufflepuff, Cedric Diggory asked you to join him for a movie over break just before boarding the train home. It seemed like any other friendly gesture and students often hung out during breaks. Even Hermione had asked you to join her in taking up visiting an art museum over the break, in which you happily agreed.
“Yeah, of course,” was all you had managed over the pages of your crisp book pages and he waltzed away with a smile before settling into the compartment diagonal from yours.
Solora Hazelridge, a blue-eyed, black haired Ravenclaw, who whispers say, should have been sorted into Slytherin with her cunning cleverness, but managed Ravenclaw because of her wits and wish to the Sorting Hat in her first year, slips into your half-loaded compartment.
“Did I just witness Cedric Diggory ask you out on a date?” she chimes.
“A date? Of course not.”
“Cedric never asks girls out unless he’s interested, or so I’ve heard.”
“Solora, I really just want to finish this book,” you sigh, not wanting to give much thought into what’s happened until you’re alone.
“Just think about what I said. Hufflepuff or not, Cedric doesn’t seem to be one that chooses lightly.”
And in the turn of a page, she’s gone.
That was a week ago and now you stand in the slight unfamiliarity of your own room back home in London, staring at yourself in the mirror with Solora’s words echoing in your mind.
A saffron colored dress clings to your curves and a dangly, beaded purse hangs from your shoulder. Your usually pinned curls have been let down and cut bluntly against your mid-back. You hardly recognize yourself in this setting, but you don’t have time to dwell on your looks or the neat makeup plastered across your lids, nor the glimmer smeared against the plumpness of your lips. You’re supposed to meet Cedric in less than ten minutes and transfiguring into a crowd of people isn’t ideal.
You’d settled on a nearby alley to spare yourself the trouble of being caught by any muggles. You don’t want to be caught in a scene where the police deem the witness insane because magic isn’t real to those who don’t believe.
When you reach the theater, slightly out of breath from your detour, Cedric stands just outside, preoccupied by the list of movies on the dingy white placard above the ticket window.
“You’d think the best movies would be played when students come back home for breaks, but they always save the bad ones for us.”
“I’d say they do it on purpose, but Merlin, that’d just be bad for business,” Cedric chortles and finally allows his gaze to roll towards you.
His curly hair is pushed back off his forehead and he’s sporting his usually charming smile; the same one you found yourself becoming all too familiar with even in the crowded hallways at school and even in the Great Hall. It was the very reason you were so reluctant in your response. After all, a smile could lead to anything.
You and Cedric decide on something they labeled as horror and settle in the back row with a large bin of popcorn and two drinks.
“Do you think it’ll be gory?” He chuckles while settling into the leather seat.
“Maybe,” you taunt. “Do you have a weak stomach, Cedric?”
The previews glisten in his irises when he turns to you, smiling mockingly because he’s too manly to admit it directly.
“Do you?”
“Of course not,” you whisper, trying not to focus too much on his steady gaze, but end up failing miserably.
He gently strokes your chin, allowing his fingertips to crawl across your jawline before leaning in closer.
“May I?”
You nod, too stunned to talk and too surprised that a heartthrob like Cedric would pick you for something like this.
And as his soft lips press into yours in the dark back row of the empty theater, you find yourself wondering: why me?
