I just came to the conclusion that what I actually love about Rumiko's male characters is that mostly, either way, they are "lost". Ryoga of course first on the list, he is quite literally eternally lost somewhere, utterly incapable of orienting himself even in a fucking bathroom (blessed my child), but Inuyasha too, and Godai, and Sesshomaru as well (although unknowingly). I feel you guys so much, you can't understand.

New Inuyasha headcanon: people think Inuyasha is illiterate, but he actually can read (his mother taught him as a boy). He just goes along with it. Kagome is the first one to see through him as she caught him reading one of her textbooks when they first started traveling together.
