I did not "mis-read"
Ugh... preventing someone from leaving in a situation they feel fearful in a relationship is ABUSE. It's not "cutesy wootsy" a "difficult hill they have to get over" it's abuse and a felony (pretty sure it counts as kidnapping or something along those lines). Love bombing is also a form of abuse where they make you fearful or hurt you and then it's all kisses and hugs and presents. Which is manipulation.
Just admit you want your characters to have a fucked up relationship and move on. Don't act like it's normal and safe. Don't act like it's not abuse. It normalizes the idea that it's not. Put in the tags #abusive relationship/#messed up relationship
(Which might be why you think it's normal to begin with...)
And for the love of fuck don't use #gentle <anything> in the tags. (Yeah don't think I didn't see that story on that tag)
A long time ago, I started a flash fiction writing contest among Size writers, to hone their skills, create original work on a schedule, and guide them in providing useful feedback. It ran for four years, four themed contests a year: January was always Cruel, April was always Gentle, and July and October were up for a vote.
Then it got very big and labor-intensive, and some hostile people showed up to ruin it, so I ended it. And then the whole thing was hosted on Google Drive and Google Sites, so to protect the archive from AI-data-scraping, I took it all down.
Now I'm restoring the archive, all 16 contests, on Neocities. All of 2017 is online, as well as CruelJan18, GentleApril18, and tonight, GrowthJuly18. It's a slow process but it's long overdue. Everyone should be able to access these stories, and the writers should be proud to show off and share their works.
