a green poster design, light colored text reads "refuse dystopia" "plant the seeds of change" and "Solarpunk can happen. now." in the center of the image is two stylized blanket flowers, a monarch butterfly, and stars dot around them. at the top of the image is a stylized sun in a rectangle.

New art!!!! I’ve been getting back into graphic design recently! 2024 is going to be my draw whatever I want without stressing era (I will probably stress)

Lesbians Love And Support Our Trans Sisters

lesbians love and support our trans sisters 💖💖

Ok, so I ran across this meta analysis on St. John's wort's effectiveness versus SSRIs (https://advances.umw.edu.pl/en/article/2023/32/2/151/) earlier this week, which found that it was as effective as SSRIs while having fewer side effects. I then read a few more studies and a few more meta analyses, and together it was convincing enough to give it a try for my partner, who was having a hard time.

First a few cautions: If you're on hormonal birth control, it can make that ineffective. If you're on any prescription medications, you need to see if they have interactions with St. John's wort. If you take St. John's wort, it can make your skin sensitive to sunlight.

Folks, I am incredibly pleased with how well this has worked. My partner has been on multiple other antidepressants (at different times, not concurrently!) and none of them has worked as well or as quickly as the St. John's wort pills we got.

And so I also started reading up on other herbal anti-depressants. And I'm kinda ticked off. All my life up until very recently, I thought herbs were weaker, less effective, and yucky tasting compared to prescription drugs. Reading study after study has turned that perception on its head. And so I started drinking Lemon Balm tea for myself, because my depression is not that bad, and Lemon Balm doesn't have the interactions and side effects that St. John's wort does. And that, too, worked. I have not felt *happy* and *cheerful* in the winter time for my entire adult life. Until now.

And I'm ticked off because herbalism has such a reputation for being this kinda woo, bullshit thing, unsubstantiated or disproven by science, when actually we have scientific evidence for WEEDS treating depression. And I'm kinda ticked off because these are literal weeds, weeds that people have paid me money to pull out of their yards, and they have this effect and I didn't know. I'm ticked off because my depression runs in my family, and I never wanted to go on prescription drugs because of the side effects I saw, and here's this lovely little plant, growing as a weed, that just cheered me right up.

And I could have felt this good years ago.

I'm also ticked off because there I feel like I personally have to read the studies and the meta analyses to be sure that each individual herb I'm interested in is actually beneficial in the way that it's supposed to be and doesn't have huge down sides. And that's effort that I can do, but how many people are locked away from herbs that could be super useful for them because they can't or just don't have the time or energy?

DO NOT DO THIS!!!

If a website has a paywall, like New York Times, DO NOT use the ctrl+A shortcut then the ctrl+c shortcut as fast as you can because then you may accidentally copy the entire article before the paywall comes up. And definitely don't do ctrl+v into the next google doc or whatever you open because then you will accidentally paste the entire article into a google doc or something!!!! I repeat DO NOT do this because it is piracy which is absolutely totally wrong!!!
