Thanks for the tag, @sixhours! Here's a very small snip from the next chapter of As Long as You Follow:
He’d braced himself for the worst; for the sight of her raw grief, for tear-streaked cheeks and a rigid gate, for hands that trembled just as they had at the dam. Her eyes were still rimmed with red, her face blotchy, but when their gazes met she offered a smile – a genuine smile – filled with a warmth that reached her eyes and tugged at his heart. Without a word she hoisted herself back into her saddle, and when he reached out to hand the reins back she wrapped her hand around his wrist and forced him closer to her, leaning across the space between their horses and pressing her forehead against his. For a fleeting moment, the world shrank to the space between them. Everything else disappeared; the horses' startled snorts, the symphony of crickets, all faded into insignificance. There was only the dizzying pressure of her skin against his, the mingled scent of sweat and something more sour, overlaid with the subtle, sweet perfume of her hair and a hint of lilac, all of it filling his senses – until she drew back from him, her eyes locking onto his. “Okay," she breathed, her voice the first thread to pull him back to the present, each syllable bringing with it the reemergence of the cricketsong. “Now we can go home.”

Pretty sure his exact response would be:

Benny bullies Joel into letting her get chickens.
Their names are Stevie Chicks, Atilla the Hen, Chickadee, and Henrietta.
She tells him this very matter-of-factly one morning, and he just looks at her like

That's it, that's the post.

Oh, man - I've researched a lot of things for my fics. I don't know if anything is particularly ~interesting, though,
I got so into researching the details of what happens to the body during strangulation that I kind of bummed myself out about it.
--
I did a ton of research on the feasibility of the Fireflies actually being able to successfully extract what they needed from Ellie, and then mass-producing a vaccine, and let me tell you...it wasn't likely. Though I very much enjoyed the doctors and scientists that pointed out they could have just performed a biopsy (or possibly a spinal tap) and had the same result (without killing her), but I suppose it stands to reason that they might not have had the tools or skills for something relatively delicate in that rundown hospital (VS 'fuck it, open her up'). Here's the most useful article I bookmarked and then leaned heavily on for As Long as You Follow: A Slate article quoting several doctors who are experts at microbiology.
--
I also spend a lot of time looking up moon phases on specific dates, and the angles of the sun in specific cities, because I am a ridiculous person.
--
I play pretty loose with actual landmarks and tend to do whatever works for the fic over what exists in real life - like, I put Cadillac Ranch just a couple of miles outside of Amarillo.

In reality it's about 10 miles from where the attack at the trailer park took place.
And Alexei's apartment building in Galveston is based off of the Emerald by the Sea condos.

The church they spend the night in after Amarillo is a real place (whose name I changed), and as is the bait shop by the lake that they stay in after that.

Have you given up on good things happen bingo?? 😭
I have not, my focus has just been on finishing up As Long as You Follow. I've already started working on several prompts, they're just coming along slowly because I only work on them when I need a break from that fic.
Once I finish, I'll be able to put more time into my GTHB prompts, especially because I've been so wishy-washy about what my next "big project" should be after ALaYF.
I'm touched! 😭♥️
Fic Rec
I love cats. A lot of them will ignore you when you call them, most cats will look at you threatenly if you even think about touching the tummy floof, some if they really love you, will even give you sandpaper kisses with their tounge. I also love The Last of Us.
In this fic, Elle and Joel are living in Jackson. Joel's not a cat person, but Ellie really wants a cat. It's a beautifully writen fic and is written by @chronicallyonlinewriter.
