Kris had an important reason to open the Fountain.

Although Kris looked at Susie before making the Fountain...

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

...I don't think their reason for making the Fountain was just to have a fun day with her.

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

I think Kris had a more serious reason to make this Fountain.

Not only does making the Fountain come at the cost of Determination, Kris seems to have planned it since at least that morning, and they still do it on Snowgrave.

Kris is well-aware of the danger and cost, but they still make the Fountain. Why?

Making a Fountain requires Determination...

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

...and you also have to be Determined "enough" to make one.

Making a Fountain seems to come at the cost of a lot Determination (the "will to live/resolve to change fate")...

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

...and is it something Kris can spare so easily?

Looking at the Fountain animation, you can see Kris concentrate their will into the blade, making it glow briefly...

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

...and then many sparkles that resemble dozens of Save Points are emitted.

Save points in Deltarune are implied to be made from the same thing as in Undertale...

...which is just whatever gives the person the will to keep going.

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

So if it takes the equivalent of dozens of Save Points to make one Fountain...

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

Then this probably took a lot out of Kris.

Afterwards, you can see them collapse on their knees for a moment...

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

...and even in the first draft of this animation, they briefly bow their head after making it, as though exhausted.

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

I don't think making a Fountain is something Kris even could do on a whim - but they also seem to have planned it.

Before Chapter 2, the TV wasn't plugged in.

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

At the beginning of Chapter 2, it was plugged in - evidently during the middle of the night.

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

And while making the Fountain, Kris will turn on the TV, making it clear this is an important step.

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

These are all very deliberate actions and indicate some level of precognition...

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

...the kind one would have after going through multiple save files to get the "right" ending.

But I don't think it's Kris's plan - or their precognition.

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

I think it's someone else's, who has convinced Kris to go along with it somehow.

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

Despite being otherwise unobtrusive, the narrator gets very pushy about setting in motion the events required to get Susie to stay over.

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

They refuse to describe other objects in the bathroom during this time.

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

And make a big deal about it being Kris's choice to go along with the plan by running the tap.

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

I don't think Kris is acting for the Knight - Kris couldn't have made the Cyber World Fountain, as they were with Susie when Noelle and Berdly went in...

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

...and Noelle and Berdly already had their books out to study at the time it was made.

Kris is also very aware of the danger to the world...

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

... particularly the danger the Dark Fountains create.

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

This indicates that someone else is generally making the Fountains, and this is Kris's first.

Kris will also make this Fountain on a Snowgrave route, a route which agonizes them to the point of appearing physically injured...

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.
Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

...and horrifies them for its consequences for Noelle...

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

...so making another Fountain just to have a good day with Susie would be extremely risky under the circumstances of a Snowgrave route.

There must be a reason it's worth the risk, the cost, and the effort for Kris to have made this Fountain.

And since they look at Susie before doing so...

Kris Had An Important Reason To Open The Fountain.

...maybe she's part of the reason why, and what ultimately gives Kris the Determination to make it.

What wouldn't Kris do to get her a happy ending?

so I was trying to remember the name of that really old homestuck-esque comic of two manbros that do slightly homoerotic activities and the name that popped in my head was AND I KID YOU NOT

"Jeff Fella Friend Bro Fella"

fucking guess what the real thing is called
