I’m actually kinda pissed I ended up leaving the FFXV community without defending myself because everybody hated ‘drama and callout culture’. Someone was literally being racist and calling for the genocide of North Koreans and I did end up leaving the server, but kept the dispute private/didn’t post on my blog about it with screencaps because I felt I’d end up losing followers. I lost followers anyway for ‘starting arguments and drama’ in the server, but like good riddance you fuckbags?
I just wish I’d said something and defended myself because I wasn’t in the wrong. I was having tons of fun and was very successful with my OC, so the fact that I let them ruin that for me was a mistake on my part.
But RPCs need to actually call out racism and support muns when they experience racism in fandom spaces. You all say you RP ‘to escape from real life’, well POC do that as well and when we STILL have the deal with racism from people we thought were our friends/mutuals in the community? That’s unfair to claim that we’re not allowed to be hurt or defend ourselves because it ‘messes up your dash’. Like, have some basic empathy and stop whining about your blog aesthetic for two fucking seconds.
Me: what a beautiful morning, I am so grateful for my cat and strawberry waffles- Spider: *crawls onto my foot* Me: why does everyone want me to suffer
Once asked a guy I knew through Meetup to stop calling his gf “bipolar” in front of me every time she ‘freaked out’ over something and you’d think I had just told him I was really a lizard person wearing a human skin, the way he reacted.
there is still a stigma around mental illness/disability. just because most people now understand that anxiety/depression is not a reason to demonize someone doesn’t mean they don’t demonize those with DID or schizophrenia or ASD or any array of lesser know or understood disorders. most people still learn about these issues from poor depictions in media. when one of my teachers said something about DID most of the class’s reaction was along the lines of “oh like from Split??? OMG that’s SO scary!” i saw my friends post an instagram challenge that was supposed to “spread awareness for autism”. I went on my story to tell my friends why i, someone with ASD, was opposed to this due to 1) the wording of “awareness” and not support or appreciation and 2) the person who originated the challenge was not autistic and had never posted about autism prior to or since then and 3) the dependence on stereotypes in the imagery such as puzzle pieces and simplified spelling such as “post this right this 2nd” instead of “post this right this second”. they all ignored me and continued to post the challenge, ignoring the voice of an actual autistic person. most see no problem using words like “retarded” and “psycho” as insults. if you politely ask someone to not say things like that, someone you are close with, they will most likely say “huh, why?” and brush you off. they so easily ignore our voices and struggles.
